Do you believe in astrology?
What's your primal triad?

I think it can be quite dangerous. For fun, I did a free online horoscope for my son when he was small. It was awful, showing big challenges in large parts of his life. I felt really down even though I didn't believe it. It showed huge problems in his personal relationships and a big gap in whole parts of his personality profile.

I think you could start to see patterns in your life that aren't really there and this could adversely affect you. Show something like that to someone having a bad time and you could seriously push them over the edge.

Obviously I didn't show the horoscope to my son and he doesn't know it exists and has no interest in astrology at all.

DillonPanthersTexas · 09/10/2020 09:53

Just because someone believes in something you dont doesnt mean they are dumb or unintelligent,

If their belief is based on zero evidence I would struggle to arrive at any other conclusion.

Pertella · 09/10/2020 09:57

At what point of birth is your personality fixed?

I find it fascinating.

The tide is governed by the moon so who knows if the different planets govern other aspects of our lives

Ask me when I was younger and I would have said it was crap but having looked into it. Not the star signs that say all Leos will meet a stranger today or all Cancerians will go on an exciting trip but the type of chart where you have to know your birth time, place and date.
I now look at mine occasionally for advice or just to see if anything is coming up. Last year it read that some one was lying to me. That what I was relying on as the truth was false and I was being deceived

I looked at the people I knew and found the liar. Astrology in this case saved me a lot of money.

I have made money out of astrology. Betting on outcomes of elections, the referendum (although that really didn’t need astrology to see what would happen) etc

Back before anyone heard of Corona there were astrology reports saying something would affect everyone in the world in 2020

Don’t know how it works but if you have exact times, places and dates then it is fascinating.

I did my horoscope based on what my mother told be and I never believed what it said. It just wasn’t me.
I have since found out (according to a government website) my true place of birth and have worked out my time of birth and now everything falls into place.

Even looking on Astrocartography which puts your natal chart on a map of the world.

The place I was born and lived for the first 18 years of my life had the worse line you could live near running straight through it.

I had a really shitty childhood and even having moved out nothing went right. The relief I felt when I left and moved away fro the line was indescribable.

Believe or don’t believe but with the internet you don’t need to spend money to get your natal chart and you can get interpretations of aspects and planets on line.

4amWitchingHour · 09/10/2020 10:48

I don't believe in it as such, but I find it interesting as a tool for reflection, ie a certain planetary position/angle/transit will say such and such about you, and you can dig a bit deeper in yourself to identify if that's true/false/ridiculous. Can be helpful if you find yourself stuck in certain ways of doing things and broaden your imagination for how to handle situations differently, similar to the Myers Briggs personality types really.

Sun - Gemini
Moon - Pisces
Rising - Aries

Sapiophile · 09/10/2020 11:06

You get that tides are created by the moon's gravitational pull (and other factors, such as the moon orbiting earth, inertia and local geography)? And you grasp that this is in no way similar to the positioning of planets at your birth turning you into a practical and ambitious type versus an intuitive and emotional one?

Back before anyone heard of Corona there were astrology reports saying something would affect everyone in the world in 2020

Sure there were.

Go and have a google and look at the dates these were written if you don’t believe.

The moon and tides thing was in answer to people who say on these type of threads that a planet millions of miles away has no effect on us

The problem is, that unless it says a pandemic coming out of China, you can find things most years to fit that.

  • US presidential elections
  • volcanoes in Iceland
  • weather events
  • stockmarket crashes
etc.

Everyone knows people who lie to them about something.

Confirmation bias.

Plus a stopped clock is right twice a day.

I was very premature. I was born in June, but supposed to be born in September.

Explain to me how this altered my personality.

Ginfordinner · 09/10/2020 11:15

@Giraffey1

I don’t ‘like’ believe in anything.
Grin I'm sceptical
kursaalflyer · 09/10/2020 11:50

Usually when something happens that affects a huge amount of people usually someone pops up to say Nostradamus predicted the exact thing and to go and check his 500 year old predictions. I'd be surprised if he left Covid off his list but haven't heard his name mentioned this year.

DillonPanthersTexas · 09/10/2020 12:02

It’s been used for centuries so there must be something in it...

So were native American rain dances.

Explain to me how this altered my personality.

To be fair, being premature and a young summer born instead of an old autumn born will possibly have massively altered your life experiences and thus your personality.

But just not in an astrology-type way.

Level75 · 09/10/2020 12:03

No, of course not.

Have you done a basic Google to check the evidence for and against the reliability of astrology @Peace92. And when I say evidence, I mean scientific studies, not people randomly speculating.

If you have undertaken this analysis, what was your assessment of the evidence either way and what influenced your conclusion?

Level75 · 09/10/2020 12:05

For the people saying 'but we've believed X for years' look into the 'God of the gaps' theory.

And Myers Briggs has been completely discredited, no one should be using it in this day and age.

Peace92 · 09/10/2020 12:16

@Level75

Its always been something that has fascinated me. From what I've read it's been around since biblical times.Im still learning tbh jus wanted know what other people thought of it all before I dived any deeper.Im not really intrested in the evidence for or against because my thoughts of it are more from a spiritual soulful kind of place something that cant be explained scientificaly. Not everyone gets that though.

Absolutely, I'm always astonished at the way it's referenced on Mn as though it was some kind of credible 'theory of psychological types'. Still, I suppose, like astrology, it serves the purpose of weeding out loons conversationally early on.
TwilightSkies · 09/10/2020 12:23

Yes I do. I’m currently learning how to read natal charts and do synastry.
I don’t give a fuck what anyone else thinks.
I know it can be used as a healing tool and to give guidance.
The detail that can be seen within a chart is unbelievable.

I don’t push my beliefs on anyone, and only talk about it if asked.
It does no harm if you use a decent astrologer.

Live and let live.

(Scorpio sun and moon, Sag rising).

HermioneWeasley · 09/10/2020 12:23

Just because science can’t explain some things right down doesn’t mean the answer is “magic”

Just because the ancient Romans didn’t know why the sun rose and set doesn’t mean that it really was pulled across the sky by a god on a chariot until Galileo came along.

Science is brilliant because it keeps pushing for answers, and changes with evidence. Magical thinking stunts our progress

Nope it's a load of bollocks. How anyone can think that everyone in the world fits into one of those personality types just based on their birthday is utterly beyond me.

There is a lot science cant explain!!

What gap in scientific knowledge is it that you think astrology 'explains'? There is nothing that astrology claims to be able to tell us which isn't already explicable through non-woo means. Personality - down to genetics, upbringing and experience.

As for it being able to tell you what's going to happen in the future... well, get 1000 Scorpios together and look back on their horoscopes for the past couple of years. Not hard to show what nonsense that is!
