Have you put the heating on yet?

Its chilly here where I am and been raining most of the day.

Some irrational part of my brain refuses to put the heating on before September. It isn't even officially autumn until the end of September, maybe I should hold off until then?Hmm

Disclaimer...this is a very lighthearted thread Grin

Of course.
Mines never been off

Literallynoidea · 28/08/2020 21:19

Tonight first time! The whole house smells of warming up dust.

whirlwindwallaby · 28/08/2020 21:21

It's summer. It goes on when the clocks change, then with thermostat set to 17.

Desperado24 · 28/08/2020 21:23

So if Temp drops below 17 before then it’s ok to live with?

In which case why not just leave it off all year? Doesn’t make any sense

NewCatMummy · 28/08/2020 21:23

Heating off. Log burner on so 26C in our lounge- I hate being cold, a steady 24C all year would be perfect.

Nb the tree fell, was cut and wheelbarrowed to ours from up the road so virtually carbon neutral. Not kiln dried or driven.

Desperado24 · 28/08/2020 21:24

@AlwaysLatte

God no, it's August!!
But if it’s cold in August why is that different to it being cold in January? No logic at all
OhTheRoses · 28/08/2020 21:24

We never turn it off. Thermostat is on 15. Timed 5am to 8am and 8pm to 11pm. We are in Surrey and it hasn't clicked on yet. Was brrrrr yesterday and last night. Not so bad today. Makes note to check settings and get 9 tog duvet back on bed.

LadyB49 · 28/08/2020 21:26

N. Ireland here..
It's been raining for weeks.
No heatwave made it here.
The heating has rarely been off. 😒

Cahu58 · 28/08/2020 21:27

Yes it was on for an hour last night and an hour tonight...

VictoriaBun · 28/08/2020 21:28

It's 17.5 in here at the mo. We've got our windows open on the latch here and have since May /June ( in the lounge ) Windows in bedroom stays like that year round.

thenightsky · 28/08/2020 21:30

9c here on the East Coast. Heating on.

QuestionableMouse · 28/08/2020 21:30

Thinking about putting mine on now. It's 11c and the rain is gusting right at the house.

IndieTara · 28/08/2020 21:39

Yep I put it on for an hour at 4.30 and again at 8pm tonight. It's cold and wet here

IndieTara · 28/08/2020 21:41

@SunbathingDragon I sympathise. Also full of arthritis here. I cracked today and put the heating on. It's also rained for the last 3 days which doesn't help

LadyCatStark · 28/08/2020 21:42

No, we’re up north and it’s cold outside but we live in an extremely well insulated new build and the thermostat is set to 18 degrees. The thermostat says it’s 19.5 right now so it won’t come on yet.

EwwSprouts · 28/08/2020 21:45

In the last hour. Been cold, rainy, windy all day & still is.

BlueJag · 28/08/2020 21:53

You sound just like my husband. I did put the heating on yesterday.

whirlwindwallaby · 28/08/2020 22:00

In which case why not just leave it off all year? Doesn’t make any sense There are usually windows or the back door open until I turn the heating on, once it's on I have to remember to shut them in the evening, though I still ventilate the house in the daytime. I don't like the house all shut up, so delay turning the heating on as long as possible, around when the clocks change is about right for us.

whirlwindwallaby · 28/08/2020 22:03

I have my bathroom skylight and both bedroom windows open right now, I'd have to sleep with the room all shut up if the heating was on. Well it would be off for the night by now, but on again early morning.

Onestepup · 28/08/2020 22:04

Not yet, i'm just wearing more clothes. If it gets much colder I would though.

I don’t think you understand how thermostats work, and how to be comfortable in a house - like 90% of the posters on this thread.

You should google it.

Onestepup · 28/08/2020 22:05

Since when was a jumper anywhere near the cost of a gas bill? Confused

whirlwindwallaby · 28/08/2020 22:09

Desperado24 What do you think I don't understand? When the heating is turned on then it keeps the house at 17, where it's being measured anyway, it drops below that and the heating goes on. If I have windows open and it is colder than 17 outside then what is the point in having the heating on as the heat will escape?

whirlwindwallaby · 28/08/2020 22:31

Those leaving it on year round, do you not have any windows open? I wouldn't want to be heating the outside air if it was a cold day and I hadn't remembered to shut the windows in case the heating came on!

I didn't know you could get heating where you can set different temperatures. Mine doesn't do that, it's just one temperature so it needs to go off overnight, I like a cold room but a warm bed to sleep.

MiniMum97 · 28/08/2020 22:36

Was thinking about tonight. Under a blanket with sheepskin bootie slippers on. It's bloody freezing.
