Have you put the heating on yet?

Its chilly here where I am and been raining most of the day.

Some irrational part of my brain refuses to put the heating on before September. It isn't even officially autumn until the end of September, maybe I should hold off until then?Hmm

Disclaimer...this is a very lighthearted thread Grin

Nope. It's 18 degrees here. I've had the patio doors open all day and dried two loads of washing outside.

Our boiler is set to hot water only until October 1st usually.

AdoptedBumpkin · 28/08/2020 20:17

We have because it's bloody freezing in some rooms.

Theforest · 28/08/2020 20:17

It is nowhere near cold!!

Boatonthehorizon · 28/08/2020 20:22

I'm on my own with teen dc. I do think of trying to get a man but threads like this remind me not to.
So many pp have said their DH doesn't allow heating on til Oct Nov or even Dec!
I choose heat over a man. And liberty too.
It's on 24/7/365 on thermostat here and that's non negotiable.

LouiseNW · 28/08/2020 20:23

No. Teenager wandering about in pants and t shirt, saying it’s cold. Put some trousers on 🙄

DustyMaiden · 28/08/2020 20:24

It is 27 degrees in here, can't open the windows because its raining. I wont be putting the heating on anytime soon.

chipsandpeas · 28/08/2020 20:25

yes, for an hour or so hate having to do it but when you wake up in august in central scotland and it sonly 10 degrees you need to

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 28/08/2020 20:26

Ours is on as the temp dropped enough for the thermostat to kick in. Hate being cold though and often have extra layers as well as the heating.

We have friends who only put it on from a certain month and hate visiting as it’s always freezing so we rarely go when we know the temp is low.

Cornettoninja · 28/08/2020 20:26

It’s the damp after the rain we have had I’m finding the damp hard to deal with more than the cold

This. We’ve been out at the beach and in the sea for the last couple of days so we’re not exactly fannies when it comes to a bit of cold and rain but getting back home today it was just unpleasant. The air was just too moist and cool so the heating went on for an hour or so.

I’ve got heating so it’s daft not to use it if needed just because it’s August.

userxx · 28/08/2020 20:30

Yep, went on last night and I've just turned it on again for an hour.

Yes, put it on yesterday because I was so cold despite several layers of clothing. I have a heart condition that makes me feel cold and tired from time to time. Just adding more clothes doesn’t resolve feeling like this.
No way am I going to hold off putting it on until October or whenever! Should it warm up then obviously I will switch it off but the thermostat is set to 18° so that will do for me.

userxx · 28/08/2020 20:45

I'm with you, if I'm cold it's going on, don't care what month it is!

Itsagrandoldteam · 28/08/2020 20:45

Yes, we put it on last night for a few hours, probably the first time it's ever been on in August, we live in Cheshire.

OutOfDateAppleCrumble · 28/08/2020 20:46

No but over got my electric over blanket on. Will light the log burner before we put the heating on proper.

SpeedofaSloth · 28/08/2020 20:49

DD is in a blanket in the living room now, i will find the other sofa blankets tomorrow I think.

sqirrelfriends · 28/08/2020 20:54

No but I'm tempted. I was sat in my office today in a dressing gown, slippers and with a blanket on my knees. ( I took the dressing gown off for calls, obviously)

To be honest I don't think it's actually cold, just that I'm recovering from the heat wave so I'm not used to it being below 28c in the house.

DefinatelyAWeeGobshite · 28/08/2020 20:55

Yep! Been on the last few days!

Bargebill19 · 28/08/2020 20:56

Yes. Can’t see the point in being miserably cold when I don’t have to be. Had a hot water bottle last night!!

doingitforthefrill · 28/08/2020 20:58

I actually had a hot water bottle today as I was chilly! Did say to OH earlier it won’t be long before the heating goes on now. Generally think we put it on around October time though.

safariboot · 28/08/2020 20:59

No.

But the weather has definitely turned. If it needs to go on it will go on. But in our house I don't think it will need to, the house takes time to warm up and cool down iyswim, and the forecast is looking good for next week.

missmouse101 · 28/08/2020 21:06

What? Omg, how crazy. I can't believe people have done it already.

Came on by itself. I keep the thermostat the same all year but don't have all the radiators on, yet. Some rooms get chillier than others, though (older house) and the towels always benefit from a blast of heat. They get fusty really quickly in the in between weather when the air humidity is high.

AlwaysLatte · 28/08/2020 21:16

God no, it's August!!
