Have you put the heating on yet?

Its chilly here where I am and been raining most of the day.

Some irrational part of my brain refuses to put the heating on before September. It isn't even officially autumn until the end of September, maybe I should hold off until then?Hmm

Disclaimer...this is a very lighthearted thread Grin

After growing up in a freezing cold house I set ours to come on if the temperature drops below 18 degrees. It is 9 degrees outside and 17 degrees inside. We are in the SE and it is the first time I remember it coming on in october.

*Meant august not october

We did have a fire one particularly chilly July evening. But this morning the heating clicked on for the first time since April. As my bedroom has a large radiator/small room, it was very cosy when I woke up.

Ours went on last night. I was cold and wanted a bath, so decided that I wanted a toasty bathroom!

We're in London and I've had to put it on the past two nights. I really feel the cold at night for some reason and have been waking up shivering. It's off in the day though. Windows flung open to let all the fresh air in. Love a crisp autumn day!

Averyslover · 31/08/2020 10:29

We haven’t put the heating on yet but I’ve been putting lights on a 3pm!

Iamnuts · 31/08/2020 10:39

Thermostat set to 18 degrees. ATM temp is 18.6. The heating hasn't kicked in for months. Long may it last, though a handy cardigan and socks are always welcome in the evenings.

middleager · 31/08/2020 11:09

The electric throw came out last night as it was nippy.

Last year I remember feeling incredulous that I had to put my heating on in mid September - I made a note of it, the saddo I am, so that a future me in 2020 would have a reference point! (If you see my pp you'll note that when I finally got heating aged 12, we were only allowed it on for 3 months of the year). I'd like to stretch to October, but the evening temperature is dropping.

PourMeADrink · 31/08/2020 11:12

Growing up our house was so cold and we didn't have central heating. I remember scraping the ice off the inside of the windows and huddled round one electric heater.

It was miserable and now I am in charge of my own comfort the heating goes on whenever it is cold no matter what month of the year.

Itshissister · 31/08/2020 23:18

It's been a bit warmer here today Grin

It was warm in the day but it's been really chilly this evening! I could see my breath when I went outside at 9pm and I felt I could do with a jumper after having left the backdoor open for 30 mins (dog was in and out). Im in the south east.

@Desperado24

Heating is on 24/7/365 and the thermostat decides when it kicks in and puts the rads on.

Isn’t that how it works, and the temperature of the house just determines if the heating is “on” or not 🤷‍♂️

I agree, why is it okay to be cold in August but it isn’t okay to be cold in December?

Would these people keep the heating turned on if it was 22 degrees in November?

Not if you have an old boiler and turn off the pilot light during the summer. The thermostat can shout and moan as much as it likes but there is no way the boiler is going to fire up.

Yellowbutterfly1 · 01/09/2020 10:41

Put it on for an hour this morning partly to check it’s still working and also because we even had some condensation on the inside of the windows this morning as it got so cold last night.

Itshissister · 02/09/2020 14:15

Its actually gone quite warm here at the moment despite the rain so ours isnt clicking on.

Although, I am chilly in the night so will put the winter duvet on at the weekend!
