Have you put the heating on yet?

Its chilly here where I am and been raining most of the day.

Some irrational part of my brain refuses to put the heating on before September. It isn't even officially autumn until the end of September, maybe I should hold off until then?Hmm

Disclaimer...this is a very lighthearted thread Grin

Yes, if the heating clicks on we shut the windows! And yes we do have different zones for the heating and can control it remotely via a digital app. Modern approach to radiator thermostats.

pumpkinpie01 · 28/08/2020 22:42

I'm in a tent at the moment , god I would love a bit of heating !

Desperado24 · 28/08/2020 22:45

The whole point of a thermostat is that it keeps your house at a constant temperature that you are happy with.

Why would you open windows to make your house colder than the temperature you like? I don’t get it

Set thermostat. Leave alone.

You should never have or want to turn heating on or off

jollybobs89 · 28/08/2020 22:50

Yes!! Had it on today needed to dry some washing plus it's been a bit nippy today 🤣

fitflopqueen · 28/08/2020 22:52

Heating doesn't normally go on until end of October, lucky to have a range in kitchen so that does give some level of heat and we have a sofa in there. Have a wood burner so will light that as it gets colder late afternoon. I do need to sort the duvet out though as we have been using sheets and a counterpane - it was freezing last night!

FunnysInLaJardin · 28/08/2020 22:52

Not yet, but we are very far south and it was 22 here today.

I can feel it snapping at my heels though and actually cant wait to try my new boiler out!

whirlwindwallaby · 28/08/2020 23:10

Why would you open windows to make your house colder than the temperature you like? The windows aren't open to cool the house, well when it was hot they were, but when it's not I still like fresh air and a breeze through the house, especially when I sleep.

MaxNormal · 28/08/2020 23:55

Mine is on whenever I'm too chilly and that was definitely today. I dont like the house getting below around 22 except when I'm in bed at night. It felt painfully cold outside today, in Scotland.

MsEllany · 29/08/2020 00:43

Nope.

But then my boiler has been broken for a month and the engineer is still waiting for a part. Not that I'm smelly and pissed off.

safariboot · 29/08/2020 00:46

Like most British homes, we don't have air conditioning. When we get unpleasant summer heat, the heating has to be off and the house allowed to get "too cold" at night to limit how hot it gets the following day.

Shouldbedoing · 29/08/2020 00:47

Had it on for a couple of hours today. It was 14° and windy outside.

Frownette · 29/08/2020 00:51

No not yet. I have washed hot water bottle cover in preparation for colder climes and started layering a bit more.

Heating may go on October I suppose. I can't wait for the weather to become crisp and fresh.

Scarby9 · 29/08/2020 01:03

After my earlier post about sitting with a hot water bottle and not putting the heating on, the heating came on, of its own accord, a couple of hours later!
The temperature in the living room had dropped below 15 degrees apparently.

managedmis · 29/08/2020 01:09

I can't believe some of these temperatures. 14 degrees in a house is OK?!

managedmis · 29/08/2020 01:21

I have to say, these are my favourite kinds of threads!

On vs off, thermostat vs juggling etc, sweater vs suffering etc.

FinallyFluid · 29/08/2020 01:57

Before I went on the cancer diet, I would make all the inmates join me on a quest to go through to the end of October.

Now, two rounds of cancer in five years and five and a half stone lighter and only weighing eight stone five and measuring five foot three, I am permanently cold.

Tonight I boosted the house, for one hour and then we had the fire on in the garden room on the lowest setting, not so much for heat as a welcoming light in the room.

Frownette · 29/08/2020 02:53

You're doing well @FinallyFluid

TinkersTailor · 29/08/2020 03:02

Yes. I am riddled with arthritis and also suffer from ankylosing spondylitis; as soon as the temperature drops, the heating goes on.

I just can't function otherwise. The difference it makes it's actually quite incredible sometimes; it's like a human version of WD40.

NervousInYorkshire · 29/08/2020 03:06

It's going to be around 2° in parts of Scotland tomorrow night Shock
They're predicting possibly the coldest august bank holiday on record iirc.

BigSandyBalls2015 · 29/08/2020 05:55

I’m camping as well, had an open fire last night for about an hour and then the wind and rain returned Hmm

Itshissister · 29/08/2020 06:21

I might crack...it's cold here...Grin

Yes..Hampshire.
It was on overnight too. And I have a winter duvet.

speakout · 29/08/2020 06:26

I have used it for much of the summer. It is currently 7 degrees ourside- my heating has been on for an hour already this morning.

I have just checked the Thermometer. Its 19 degrees.

What is a comfortable temp for everyone?

I would say maybe 21 for me.

It depends on the weather outside really & how far in to autumn/winter we are.
