Have you put the heating on yet?

Its chilly here where I am and been raining most of the day.

Some irrational part of my brain refuses to put the heating on before September. It isn't even officially autumn until the end of September, maybe I should hold off until then?Hmm

@Desperado24

Heating is on 24/7/365 and the thermostat decides when it kicks in and puts the rads on.

Isn’t that how it works, and the temperature of the house just determines if the heating is “on” or not 🤷‍♂️

That's how my heating works as well.

Currently the thermostat is sat at 19 when the temperature in the house is 21. We are well insulated so I can't see it dropping for a while yet.

FadedRed · 28/08/2020 15:50

@Itshissister
Well, this site would have you believe that ‘No’ is a complete sentence Grin

FippertyGibbett · 28/08/2020 15:52

No, but I’ve considered it the last two nights.

GreyishDays · 28/08/2020 15:52

Ours is set to 20, and hasn’t come in by itself, but I’ve put it up to 21 a couple of times over the last week when I’ve been cold. It’s 13 outside here.

VintageStitchers · 28/08/2020 15:52

Our heating system is operated manually so on/off, with no thermostat.

In the cooler but not cold months there’s lots of getting up to switch it on/off/on depending on the temperature. I’ve no idea how easy it would be to get a thermostat installed.

overweightcat · 28/08/2020 15:54

Thermostat comes on when it gets below 18C in the house. It hasn't been on since April i think but it came on last night and today.

bronzedgodesswannabe · 28/08/2020 15:55

Had it on today for an hour and it was lush

toffeecashews · 28/08/2020 15:56

No! It's August, the heating won't go on until well into Autumn and that's 3 weeks away yet.

lazylinguist · 28/08/2020 15:59

No, I don't think I've ever put the heating on in August! I'm in Cumbria and it's 15 degrees and definitely feeling a little autumnal. I'm not cold though, although the back door and several windows are open. I'm not a tough northern either, but a southern softie who only moved north a few years ago!

No way! We hold off as long as possible as CH plays havoc with my sinuses.

Will be looking out my woolly tights, vests, hotwater bottles and can highly recommended those heated blankets.
Then we will have a heatwave Grin

queenrollo · 28/08/2020 16:00

My house is old and the downstairs is wonderfully cool during a heatwave, but it does mean that a few damp and cool days make it feel v cold. I've lit the woodburner in one room today as it was just a little too cold for my liking.
The central heating is run off a solid fuel Rayburn though, and I hold off lighting that for as long as possible.

PlanDeRaccordement · 28/08/2020 16:00

You must be in the Southern Hemisphere. It’s still summer here.

Me too.

mylittlesandwich · 28/08/2020 16:00

Yes, I'm having a rubbish day/weekend and I treated myself to a wee boost on the heating, it was lovely.

Laiste · 28/08/2020 16:01

Yep. Yesterday for a couple of hours.

I was still in my summer shorts and vest and i was cold! ConfusedAngry

Today i've got my skinnies on and a top with sleeves, so i'm better, but i can feel the cold in my nose (i get sinusitis at the drop of a hat) and am on the verge of flicking it on again right now ...

My Southern hemisphere relatives are sending me photos of daffodils and cherry blossom, that's despite being in the coldest part of the country with a climate very similar to ours.

A nest thermostat is very easy to fit and would pay for itself fairly quickly
Thebreadsouth · 28/08/2020 16:02

I'm on the train home from visiting my dad who has his heating set constantly to 29. Twenty. Fucking. Nine. All the windows closed and smokes in the house. It's like some sort of torture or endurance test living like that and I hate visiting him. I'm going home to open all my windows and take 27 showers to refresh.

RowboatsinDisguise · 28/08/2020 16:03

We’ve still got windows and doors open here! It’s about 17/18 degrees so perfect temperature as far as I’m concerned! I’m wearing shorts, a vest, and a thin cardigan.

Putting the heating on in our house means making a fire so it has to be absolutely freezing (like 14 degrees inside) before I can be bothered. Before that we just wear more jumpers!

Miljea · 28/08/2020 16:03

This is what always makes me smile about how hide-bound so many MNetters are! How about-

'Is your heating on yet?'
'Yes, because it's cold'.

😂😂😂

KilljoysDutch · 28/08/2020 16:05

No! Can't afford it yet. Just starting to build up a little on the meters ready for winter. Still got the window open in my bedroom/craft room but did put a cardigan on rather than close it Grin

LesLavandes · 28/08/2020 16:06

No. Brighton here. Warm, a bit wet but my well insulated house is still too warm for me.

ifiwasascent · 28/08/2020 16:07

I was very close to doing so yesterday but we've only just moved there so I didn't know how to and my husband wasn't there to ask 😂

Suzi888 · 28/08/2020 16:08

YesGrin
