Have you put the heating on yet?

Its chilly here where I am and been raining most of the day.

Some irrational part of my brain refuses to put the heating on before September. It isn't even officially autumn until the end of September, maybe I should hold off until then?Hmm

Disclaimer...this is a very lighthearted thread Grin

Not yet but we had the logburner on in our Cornwall holiday cottage this week - it was lovely!

garlictwist · 28/08/2020 18:57

Never turned mine off! Except for the odd day it was hot. But I usually have it on in the morning for an hour.

Pipandmum · 28/08/2020 18:57

No - still warm here and with dogs I have several doors open to the garden all day.
I have a wood burning stove so would put that on the first few chilly nights.

Pixxie7 · 28/08/2020 18:58

No tempted but not given in yet

Newnamenewopenme · 28/08/2020 19:00

We’ve got ours on!

mommybear1 · 28/08/2020 19:01

Trying to hold out till 1st October- we have a log burner and a lot of left over wood from last year so that went on yesterday 🤣.

Deelish75 · 28/08/2020 19:04

No it’s still warm here. Our thermostat is set to 20 but the indoor temp is 22.5.

I have had the heating on in August in previous years when it’s been cold, but I haven’t felt the need yet this year.

RedRiverShore · 28/08/2020 19:22

Yes, just put it on to sit down for the evening, it was ok while I was doing stuff but feels chilly now. I had turned it right off because I didn’t want it coming on if it had turned chilly when we were on holiday but have now set it at 20c for the evenings as the next few days will be chilly

lalalalaloo · 28/08/2020 19:22

It's 11 outside and I put it on about an hour ago to warm up. I have an old Northfacing house in the North and my front room has a high ceiling. So it's lovely in summer but cold in the winter.

I like the temperature to be 21 degrees.

RedRiverShore · 28/08/2020 19:23

It was 18.9c in our house, Northamptonshire

UnfinishedSymphon · 28/08/2020 19:26

12 degrees outside, 15 inside. I was tempted earlier but now huddled under a blanket with the dog. DP is complaining he's cold and he's wearing shorts and a t shirt, he never wears anything else in the house. I have no sympathy

Aposterhasnoname · 28/08/2020 19:29

I do not understand the heating off till October attitude (assuming cost isn’t an issue). My heating is set to come on when the room is under 18 degrees. If 18 degrees is too cold in October, it’s too cold in August, likewise if it’s over 18 degrees its plenty warm enough, regardless of it being July, or January.

Fluffycloudland77 · 28/08/2020 19:30

Yes and putting the electric blanket on the bed later.

june2007 · 28/08/2020 19:34

No because it,s August in the uk and i am sitting here in short sleaves..

Correct answer.

Why do people “hold off” or “try to resist”

Buy a house, set the thermostat to a temperature you are comfortable with and leave alone to let it work how it’s meant to.

Most modern thermostats let you set different temps for different days of week or time of day so just set it up and leave it alone.

Really can’t understand it

Powre · 28/08/2020 19:37

I've had it on a couple of times in last few weeks.

whoisjoe · 28/08/2020 19:37

Yes. Im in the Scottish highlands and it was 10' and raining yesterday

Chicchicchicchiclana · 28/08/2020 19:39

Live in London but note from my FB posts that we put the heating on for a couple of hours sometime in June.

Haven't caved recently but I am wearing slippers and cardi.

Pimmsypimms · 28/08/2020 19:43

I put it on last night....bye bye summer Sad

VioletCharlotte · 28/08/2020 19:44

Yes, I put mine on for the first time last night for a couple of hours and have it on this evening. I'm in the south east, BBC weather says it's 14 degrees, but it felt cold and damp, wood floors don't help.

dementedma · 28/08/2020 19:46

Yup, Scotland here. Heating has been on this week periodically.

timeforawine · 28/08/2020 19:52

Yep. But got back from holiday yesterday so maybe I'm feeling the cold more

VerbenaGirl · 28/08/2020 19:56

I had to put a cardigan on and that has depressed me. I am not ready for summer to be over. I also like to hold on until November for the heating if I can. It’s probably the only bit of parsimony I have inherited from my mother!

TheGrayChapter · 28/08/2020 20:04

Not yet! I’m holding off not sure what for maybe proper autumn weather

I have lit a fire tonight and we have had the electric blankets on a couple of times this week!

It’s the damp after the rain we have had I’m finding the damp hard to deal with more than the cold.

Winecurestiredness · 28/08/2020 20:13

Its only just started getting chilly in the south east. Il probably crank it up ever so slightly tomorrow then DF will come in complaining that its "roasting in here"! Me and DF are like night and day when it comes to temperature..when I'm too cold he's too hot !
