Have you put the heating on yet?

Its chilly here where I am and been raining most of the day.

Some irrational part of my brain refuses to put the heating on before September. It isn't even officially autumn until the end of September, maybe I should hold off until then?Hmm

Disclaimer...this is a very lighthearted thread Grin

@Boatonthehorizon

Why suffer? We're not in the middle ages! It's only £2.10 a day. I bet you all shop and are relatively well off. Jumpers and heated blankets etc are more expensive than heating.
I cant bear it on. Headaches and sinus problems . I love a snuggly jumper and my heated blanket is on its 4th year, cost me £50 and 2p per hour to run. Heating is extortionate .
ranoutofquinoaandprosecco · 28/08/2020 17:41

I'm in Yorkshire and I've had it on for 30 mins today, mainly as I needed to dry the kids trainers as they'd completely trashed them in muddy puddles yesterday!

Gilead · 28/08/2020 17:43

Heated throw, lovely!

Kaiserin · 28/08/2020 17:43

I whined and whined I was too cold, till DH switched the heating on around lunch time, now it's warm and toasty ❤
No regrets! Planning to have a long hot bath later on...

utterlynutty · 28/08/2020 17:47

Absolutely no way I'd put heating on in August.
I'm still wearing shorts and t shirts around the house.
If it feels chilly in the evening I'll put on a light jumper or cardigan.
I live in Scotland and our house is well insulated.

homemadecommunistrussia · 28/08/2020 17:57

I am enjoying not sweating and the window is still open a crack.
The heating will come on by itself if it's really cold- it's set at 18.5.

Crystal87 · 28/08/2020 18:09

Slightly chillier today but not cold enough to need heating and when it's cold, my house is freezing. I try not to have it on till October unless I have to.

Squiffany · 28/08/2020 18:10

Not quite. Although I am wearing a dressing gown and socks atm.

Angel2702 · 28/08/2020 18:16

Nope ours doesn’t go on until end of October / beginning November.

SpeedofaSloth · 28/08/2020 18:21

Have thought about it. Ours comes on when the thermostat decides, it hasn't done yet so I put an extra layer on instead.
I can't wait for Autumn this year, it's my favourite season and I have a new big coat.

middleager · 28/08/2020 18:22

No. I hold off as long as I can.

We didn't have central heating as kids until I was 12 in my 2nd house. Dad used to let us have it on in December, Jan and Feb and something in there has stuck with me. The phrase "put an extra jumper on" was not lost on our household.

I bought a fake Oodie yesterday on a MN recommendation. It arrived yoday and I will be living in that this winter, along with heated blanket.

Allywill · 28/08/2020 18:28

I never understand this question. We have a thermostat. Heating comes on if temp inside falls below 21 degrees other than that it is off. I don’t switch it off totally unless say we are going on holiday - isn’t that how it is supposed to work? And yes it has come on a few times in the last few days. We are in the north.

Itshissister · 28/08/2020 18:29

I have just checked the Thermometer. Its 19 degrees.

What is a comfortable temp for everyone?

I would say maybe 21 for me.

Allywill - lots of people don't do it like that. I have my thermostat set so that the heating comes on when it's under 18 degrees, but only between about late September and the beginning of May. And even then, I turn the thermostat down very low every night when we go to bed, as I hate having the heating on at night however cold it is!

artyandtarty · 28/08/2020 18:36

Tried to refrain as it's August still but I caved today!

vanillandhoney · 28/08/2020 18:37

Nope. I wouldn't put it on until it was below double figures outside.

We don't have it set higher than 17-18 degrees anyway. Anything warmer and I end up with splitting headaches. Heating always off overnight too.

DolphinsAndNemesis · 28/08/2020 18:38

No, there is no need here. It is quite warm.

I admit I did put the heating on in May when we had a cold spell.

Palavah · 28/08/2020 18:38

Haven't even got the windows closed yet.

Tappering · 28/08/2020 18:42

I had it on briefly in my office earlier as it was 16 in there - outside temp of 13 and pissing rain here. We have thermostatic valves on all our rads though, so they can be turned on individually of needed. Rest of house is fine - currently 18 in my living room which is the normal temp we aim for anyway.

Butternutsqoosh · 28/08/2020 18:45

No ... DH took all the radiators off a couple of months this ago to replace and we have not a single new radiator yet ... starting to get a bit nervous!

vanillandhoney · 28/08/2020 18:46

@Palavah

Haven't even got the windows closed yet.
Same - ours have been open 24/7 since about March!
moveandmove · 28/08/2020 18:47

No way. Ours won't go on until at least November. I've got all windows and the backdoor open at the minute (East Anglia).

Mintjulia · 28/08/2020 18:48

Not yet. October at the earliest and normally November if I can manage it.

We use a log burner to warm the sitting room in October. Now I'm just using a sweater & socks Grin

purplecorkheart · 28/08/2020 18:50

No, it has been quite warm here. Also my house is timber-framed and has really good insulation so the house tends to stay warm.

Titsywoo · 28/08/2020 18:51

Our indoor temp is 21 degrees at the moment so no chance!
