Does your name have a song associated with it?

Do people sing it to you?

I have a name that has at least two songs associated with it. One less known than the other but I have occasionally had someone sing it to me. As a child I regularly had someone sing more famous song to me but now I, thankfully, rarely have to experience that. It's more irritating than infuriating but I don't understand why people do it.

No, but my name means singing in Hebrew :)

Gulsink · 16/08/2020 17:59

I love the name Delilah but could never call my daughter that, as Father in-law would've never stopped singing the Tom Jones song.

I've noticed there's a generational divide over the name 'Maria'. Older people sing the West Side Story song and younger people tend to go for the Santana song.

CrocodileFondue · 16/08/2020 17:59

There are 2 songs with my name in but luckily they are both quite old and no one except my dad annoyed me by singing them at me. Grin

I didn't think so until about 10 days ago. I asked Alexa to play (my name), and she played a lovely little love song, to a girl with my name.

I asked her again a few days later, and she played a different song with my name, but I didn't like it as much. Luckily I have the original one she played on my playlist. I was surprised to find 2 songs with my name as it isn't a common name.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 16/08/2020 18:07

Yes. Had it sung to me by quite a few people upon learning my name, it's quite annoying!

lovinglavidaloca · 16/08/2020 18:10

A few I think!

Can think of two well known ones but there are more.

It’s such a shit name as well so I don’t know why.

justoverthehorizon · 16/08/2020 18:15

Yes. .A horrible 70's song that got used to tease me when I was little.

Feralkidsatthecampsite · 16/08/2020 18:17

A 1970's Beach Boys song for me!!
Grin

HowYouBrewin · 16/08/2020 18:24

A 70s song for my name too. I think it’s a fairly unusual name - wasn’t named after the song though.

BikeRunSki · 16/08/2020 18:28

In song, I don’t live here anymore; you can get anything you want in my restaurant, and people want to know who the I am. I also have the same name as the stage name of a very famous 70s-80s rock singer. Infamous really.

Kitmerow · 16/08/2020 18:30

No, but my sisters name is in Mambo Number 5 and I was insanely jealous about it as a child! Grin

PastramiNoRye · 16/08/2020 18:32

I share a name with a famous singer who wrote a song about herself. It's sung to me a fair bit.

Twilightstarbright · 16/08/2020 18:33

Mambo number 5!

GinWithASplashOfTonic · 16/08/2020 18:36

Song for whoever by Beautiful South

Shouldn't be too outing as there's several names mentioned in that song

Mamette · 16/08/2020 18:37

Yes a French pop song from the 80s. Only really got sung at me by French people as it’s not known much outside France.

Also a more recent (2010s?) mega worldwide hit which repeats my name over and over but it’s part of another word, really. People sang it at me for years.

ListeningQuietly · 16/08/2020 18:38

Yes
but only once
as they know that I will hit them again

therhubarbbrothers · 16/08/2020 18:40

Yes, unfortunately. When I was a teenager I was plagued by this song title as people would use it to ask me to do something I really did not want to do.

MrsBungle · 16/08/2020 18:40

Yes to a horrible song here too! Quite a few (mainly adults) used to relish singing it to me upon finding out my name. Not happened for many years now though.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 16/08/2020 18:40

@BikeRunSki we share a name. Wink

CaptainMyCaptain · 16/08/2020 18:41

Yes. I got it sung to me frequently, especially in the 70s. If I told you the artist it would be obvious.

cricketmum84 · 16/08/2020 18:41

Mine does but it's from the 70s and really not well known so there's only really my mum that sings it to me 😂

My youngest DD has the same name as a famous song that people know very well and always has it sung to her. It drives her mad!

TheChosenTwo · 16/08/2020 18:43

@Mamette I think I can guess your name based on that description! It’s lovely by the way.
There’s not a song with my name it apart from happy birthday I guess Grin
One of my dds has a name that has 2 different songs associated with it. Not named after either of the songs, we just loved the name. She now hates both songs (we hate one of them but love the other!).

Thank you 😊 (and please don’t tell!)

ApollO88 · 16/08/2020 18:46

I was named after that Marillion song but with an alternative spelling. I went to school with another girl named the same with the traditional spelling and we were best friends instantly due to our name. It actually weirds me out when I come across people who spell theirs the same as me.... it's my name! Why do you have it?!

ShellsandSand · 16/08/2020 18:46

I get Dani California by RHCP and Danny boy...always by drunk people.
