Does your name have a song associated with it?

Do people sing it to you?

I have a name that has at least two songs associated with it. One less known than the other but I have occasionally had someone sing it to me. As a child I regularly had someone sing more famous song to me but now I, thankfully, rarely have to experience that. It's more irritating than infuriating but I don't understand why people do it.

A Gaelic dirge. Apparently my mother thinks it's beautiful.

BikeRunSki · 16/08/2020 18:48

@Waxonwaxoff0 - even the surname?

TranquilityofSolitude · 16/08/2020 18:52

I was named after a song but thankfully few people know the song and I rarely hear it, so that's alright then!

My name is also in Song for Whoever and in Games without Frontiers.

AKAanothername · 16/08/2020 18:53

Mine's a Lenny Kravitz song, not many people know it so it doesn't get sung to me but I am thinking of adding it to my list of 'nice songs for my funeral'. Note, as far as I'm aware, I'm not due to die anytime soon, but I think it's good to be prepared.

AhBallix · 16/08/2020 18:55

Yes, a VERY well known song from the 1980s. I was 15 when it was released. And I was bloody tortured with people singing it!

AllTheWhoresOfMalta · 16/08/2020 18:56

Two songs. I was named after one. Everyone always sings the other one!

AllTheWhoresOfMalta · 16/08/2020 18:58

@AhBallix do you dance in stilettos in the snow? Did you never understand I had to go? I suppose I should just call you, but I’m too scared to pick up the phone.

AhBallix · 16/08/2020 19:00

@AllTheWhoresOfMalta
I wish! My name is not cool at all. I would have loved that one.

WatchingFromTheWings · 16/08/2020 19:00

Yes, one song from the 70's and another from the 80's. It's always the older song that gets sung to me. Funnily enough the last time was just a few days ago!

fantalemonisbest · 16/08/2020 19:00

I'm named after a song by mr mister....

BearSoFair · 16/08/2020 19:00

Mine does, in the 90s people used to sing the song but now it seems to be mostly forgotten, thank God.

Bluntness100 · 16/08/2020 19:05

Yes, a very very famous old romantic song which has been released and mixed up many times over the years.

When I was younger drunk blokes used to sing it to me. Now not so much. 🤣

Waxonwaxoff0 · 16/08/2020 19:10

@BikeRunSki just the first name!

AllTheWhoresOfMalta · 16/08/2020 19:12

@AhBallix damn, I thought I’d guessed it correctly! I was born the year that one came out and went to a ten form entry girls school where there were no less than 30 Kayleighs. Literally a class of Kayleighs. Marillion have a lot to answer for!

wombatsandaplant · 16/08/2020 19:12

A certain song by Smokie.

Marlena1 · 16/08/2020 19:13

Yes but it's not well known so never sung to me! I think it's quite catchy so surprised it never took off (I am in the monority for thinking this I think!)

Marlena1 · 16/08/2020 19:13

*minority!

rougebuterfly · 16/08/2020 19:18

My name features in a song by Bruno Mars

yousexybugger · 16/08/2020 19:19

ha same as wombats I think. Bloody Roy Chubby Brown.

PissPotPourri · 16/08/2020 19:29

People used to sing my name to me all the time, telling me they loved me. Not so much now as the song was of an era and not re-released (to my knowledge)

Waxonwaxoff0 · 16/08/2020 19:30

@wombatsandaplant @yousexybugger same as me Grin

DrDavidBanner · 16/08/2020 19:31

Me too PissPot People used to sing to me begging me to give them hope too.

TinyMetalBirds · 16/08/2020 19:38

My nana used to sing 30s/40s songs to my two sisters with their names in - although for one sister her name wasn't a name in the song (like if she was called Holly and the song was the Holly and the Ivy). I didnt have a song though, so she used to sing me "The birds in the trees seem to whisper Louise" - because like every second girl in the 70s/80s that is my middle name. I do actually have a song now, from the 80s, but while I know the band I couldn't sing it to you - it's not that popular. I do appear in two children's book titles though!

RosieLemonade · 16/08/2020 19:41

A song by a band that had Miley Cyrus’ brother in it.

Glepspodees · 16/08/2020 19:41

A good friend of mine is named Michelle because her Dad was a huge Beatles fan. I still remember her face when she explained this fact to someone else, and they looked puzzled for a bit and asked which song... Grin
