Does your name have a song associated with it?

Do people sing it to you?

I have a name that has at least two songs associated with it. One less known than the other but I have occasionally had someone sing it to me. As a child I regularly had someone sing more famous song to me but now I, thankfully, rarely have to experience that. It's more irritating than infuriating but I don't understand why people do it.
@1970schild no, it's more of a country dancing type deal for the non Scots - "social dancing" for the Scots - think the scene in four weddings where Gareth goes "its bloody brigadoon"!!!
I can only think of a man's name, possibly not heterosexual Wink.

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 17/08/2020 07:26

@Cheekychops73 we have the same name.

1970schild · 17/08/2020 07:33

@CaptainMyCaptain yes that's the extent of my recollection of country dancing too!

InsaneInTheViralMembrane · 17/08/2020 07:45

Yes. I’ll ghost you, break your heart and leave you in agony the rest of your life. Job done.

Izzabellasasperella · 17/08/2020 08:18

@CallSignCharlie yes we are name twins!
Apparently the song was briefly banned by the BBC!

Cheekychops73 · 17/08/2020 08:24
@Sakura7 I think you're thinking of an 80's pop song by an Irish band?

@Cheekychops73 you may have I can't tell from your reply. Not proud bloody annoyed!
@Graphista I tried to edit but couldn't if I said do you have pride in your name in relation to the song is that it? By the way it's a gorgeous name if it is. One of my favourites.

Woo hoo do you have the full name shortened too or did you just get the name we go by? There were 3 in my class so I started to be known by the shortened version and it's always stuck. Lots of people baffled by the A initial when I sign stuff Grin

GinWithRosie · 17/08/2020 08:33

No, but I have taught very many girls called Ruby over the years, and always sing Ruby, Ruby, Ruby Rubyyyyy in my head to them whenever I say their name 😂 I have to bite my tongue not to sing it out loud! I'm sure they'll go through their lives being 'sung at'. Similarly if you're called Kayleigh...is it too late to say I'm sorry?

UnagiSalmonSkinRoll · 17/08/2020 10:15

@whataballbag

@unagisamonskinroll you are so a Layla!

You are correct! 😂

minnieok · 17/08/2020 10:22

Yes, another 70's baby here. Song released of my nickname a couple of years after I was born. Hated being called it consequently but now I don't mind

cricketmum84 · 17/08/2020 10:56

@GinWithRosie I do this to my DD all the time 😂😂 then DH and eldest DD chime in with the AHs

GinWithRosie · 17/08/2020 10:59

@cricketmum84 it’s so hard to keep it inside my head 🤦‍♀️😂

wherethewavesarehighest · 17/08/2020 11:01

There is a song. No one has ever sung it to me but I have been asked if I'm a social worker because of my name Grin Alas I am not.

nasiisthebest · 17/08/2020 11:20

No but I have a book and film that are titled with my name, so that's cool. One of my friends has a name that is also a song and she hates it when people sing it to her.

I know someone who wanted a non mainstream name and called her daughter Elsa... a few months before frozen came out. That did give me quite a chuckle after listening to her arrogant remarks for bloody years about other peoples mainstream named kids Grin. Shows that you never know what the future brings.

LauraAshleyDuvetCover · 17/08/2020 11:25

Mine's an old waltz. I dated the leader of a university dance band and he arranged it for them to play, which was sweet but also quite embarrassing. It's never been sung at me though.

There's a PP whose nickname I can't remember, but I really want to know if she's a Liza.

I have to bite my tongue whenever I meet a couple called Frankie and Johnny socially. Not the best song if you're in a relationship!

JoeExoticandtheTigers · 17/08/2020 11:32

therhubarbbrothers
Two double letters!
No one asks me that unless we share the name Wink
Are you one too?

DisaL · 17/08/2020 11:39

@PissPotPourri - We are name twins Smile It always makes me sad when I hear it and I could never understand why my Mum and Dad always played it whenever they found it anywhere. I remember one holiday when I was 11 and it was on the juke box in the bar we went to. Every bloody night!

Graphista · 17/08/2020 11:52

@CaptainMyCaptain close in terms of the style of song/dance but not quite

@Cheekychops73 nope no pride connection

BikeRunSki · 17/08/2020 11:53

Despite a few musical connections, the song that always get played for/sung to me, is about where I grew up. “I never thought it would happen, with me and the girl from....”.

savetti · 17/08/2020 12:01

At least 4, no-one sings them to me. They’re all quite good songs

@Graphista I thought it as Erin. Is it a tree? Struggling to think of the other social dances we had to do which has a womans name?

Graphista · 17/08/2020 12:08

@Cheekychops73 a dance at a WEDDING.

Cheekychops73 · 17/08/2020 12:09

@Graphista would the song be "all for your wedding" ? Hope so as that song is now an ear worm 🐛 Grin
