I've decided I'd like an American man :)

I don't need to preface that this is lighthearted do I?! Well, just in case - it is!

My friend is married to the most lovely man from South Carolina. Another friend is married to the most interesting man from Maryland. And I've developed a crush on a former FBI agent who appears on a crime programme. I've therefore decided I'd like an American man. How do I find one? :)

@Yukkalye I found mine at work. He's only sort of a Brit really. He was born here, then raised on the continent. He actually was in the American scouts. It was him who wanted an American. It works out well and the kids have lots of options when they grow up. I do get told I'm awful "direct". And the beginning of relationship involved a whole lot of lost in translation moment such as when I "sent him to Coventry". I didn't have any idea what he meant. 😬

Can I put a word in for Germans?
Good looking in a bit of a dorky terrible dress sense kind of way but don't really care about appearances. Practical and probably very useful in a zombie apocalypse
Very "dilligent" in bed too
Family very welcoming and Muti and Oma cant half cook

Of course Hopping - any and all recommendations are welcome. I know little of German men bar when I was about 14, and my mother decided to have 5 exchange students one summer. All five of them fancied my best friend :(.

Yes, I didn't stand a chance really. She was (and still is) blonde, curvy and outgoing. I - wasn't!

Anyway - if anyone's interested, Scott is on the tv as we speak. I think I've decided I prefer him to Bobby even though he (Scott) is only a retired lapd detective, not an ex-fbi agent.

I agree with @Gurufloof - Canadians are a much better bet. And the relatives all bring the most amazingly delicious maple syrup in huge jars when they visit 😝

@SlatternIsMyMiddleName

Can I put in a vote for Australian men? My DH is rather lovely and best of all he doesn’t drink and is quite happy to drive to allow me to imbibe as much as I wish. Good times.

Word of warning about Irishmen - great for a night on the beers, much hilarity usually involved and usually up for fun and games thereafter - but not marriage material. As said above, the good uns are snapped up early. The ones left ..... you’ll enjoy the craic but don’t expect to be taken home to Mammy anytime soon.

Even better, as I am not into getting married again anyway. I think I need to bag myself an Irishman. Or an American. Maybe a Canadian (although I don't like syrup), an Australian or even a German, but in my opinion that's the least sexy of the accents (sorry)

See, I am not really all that fussy.

HermioneMakepeace · 20/08/2020 10:24

You don't seem to get normal, run-of-the-mill people in the US. They're either highly educated, worldly and interesting or... they are the People of Walmart.

Hoppinggreen · 20/08/2020 10:32

German the least sexy accent?
They dont all sound like Herr Flick of the Gestapo you know!
While I agree it cant compete with French or Italian on the sexy accent scale if its subtle its quite nice

JosephineDeBeauharnais · 20/08/2020 10:38

My cousin got a job on an American base, met an American, married him and moved to Chicago. Quite a few bases around, you could try that as others have said.

Zoflorabore · 20/08/2020 10:44

One word op- Twitter Wink

You’re welcome.

Snog · 20/08/2020 11:11

How about Trump

This really hasn't been my experience. I did work for an insurance company for a long time though, tbf :-)

Yukkalye · 20/08/2020 20:42

Trump isn't a real human, he's not eligible I'm afraid :)

I don't know how twitter works - if I take the time to work it out do you promise I'll find an American?

I've done a bit of research (otherwise known as googling) Scott Reitz. He provides training seminars on International Tactical Training Seminars. I'm not entirely sure what those are but I'm considering signing up :)

I had a fling with a Canadian who kept apologising during sex. Not recommended.

Tillygetsit · 23/08/2020 01:18

My first true love was American. He was playing in a bluegrass band in Virginia. I was living there at the time. God he was beautiful thoughtful and infuriating.
It also transpires that he had a huge coke problem but as a naive 18yr old that flew over my head.

SaltyLou · 23/08/2020 01:37

@Yukkalye I don't think Trump is that fussy tbh. Seriously, there must be plenty of dating websites which are American based? Surely??

SaltyLou · 23/08/2020 01:40

@Tillygetsit not to be insensitive but am tired and at the bleary eyed stage and I saw serious big coke problem and somehow misread the word coke as something much ruder Blush.

SomethingOnce · 23/08/2020 01:41
SaltyLou · 23/08/2020 01:42

Lol @Annist I thought people only did that in Enid blyton

Yukkalye · 23/08/2020 20:39

@SomethingOnce

Thank you Something. If I looked like her I suspect my quest would be substantially easier!

I don't know of any Salty. That would be ideal :)
