I've decided I'd like an American man :)

I don't need to preface that this is lighthearted do I?! Well, just in case - it is!

My friend is married to the most lovely man from South Carolina. Another friend is married to the most interesting man from Maryland. And I've developed a crush on a former FBI agent who appears on a crime programme. I've therefore decided I'd like an American man. How do I find one? :)

@Hoppinggreen

not sure I could deal with a circumcised willy
My ex (British) was circumcised and the first time he whipped it out I was like a deer in headlights. I had no idea what to do with it Blush
StationView · 17/08/2020 18:59

So pleased that someone has raised (Ooh, Matron!) the issue of circumcision. I gathered from ER and Sex and the City that lots of American men are circumcised, but I didn't want to be accused of being a willy troll Grin

SillyUnMurphy · 17/08/2020 19:03

I went to Uni in America’s East Coast and the men are definitely more confident, mature and forward than British men (in my experience) It was refreshing and I enjoyed not having to be the one to make all the effort. My biggest regret was turning down a nice guy on my course. He was from Southampton NY (I HAD ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA ABOUT THE HAMPTONS!) and he went on to do a postgrad in law and now practices in Boston 😩😩 Anyway I’m perfectly happy with DH 🤣

Badtasteflump · 17/08/2020 19:11

I know this is a light hearted thread... but my birth family are American - and as lovely as they are, I am very happy to have married an English man (and I love his accent) 😁

pinkgin85 · 17/08/2020 19:44

I'm the Canadian married to my British DH! We met on a night out in Notting Hill in 2008 when I was visiting on holiday, I'm quite sure our accents helped with the attraction! 10 years later and we're still together though he does drive me nuts most days Grin

Yukkalye · 17/08/2020 19:47

I'll worry about the willy issue as and when :).

Please do help me in my quest MJM, I'll be forever indebted.

If you turn on tinder in Yorkshire there's some rather good looking army guys on secondment, or rather was a few months back

Vodkacranberryplease · 17/08/2020 20:07

@Yukkalye trust me American men do not have a willy issue and you won't either. Unless you don't like good size ones.

Oh minnie thank you. Maybe I can convince the dc to come on a day trip to Yorkshire at the weekend. I'll have to come up with a suitable cover story - they won't appreciate their elderly parent travelling in search of men :)

My man Bobby is on the screen. He would fill all my criteria very nicely :)

If you like a drink, OP, steer clear of the religious ones from the south. I dated a guy from Maryland back in my youth, and his mother asked him if I was an alcoholic because I ordered a glass of wine with dinner!

Vodkacranberryplease · 17/08/2020 21:19

What program is bobby on???

And all American men are funny about my level of probably excessive drinking. We get to date three then they say "I think we drink too much". After spending date one and two throwing cocktails down their necks and discovering late night bars having the best time ever. Bless. Still worth it though.

redeyetonowheregood · 17/08/2020 21:24

Airbases have US civilians working on them don't forget. I am great friends with an American teacher who works in one...democrat / atheist....

baubled · 17/08/2020 21:26

You just need to go to a small snowy town just before Christmas, meet the towns very good, looking single man (with some kind of sad story, bad break up, dead wife etc) get snowed in and not be able to make it home in time for Christmas Day. It happens all the time, I've seen it on the telly Grin

rockingthelook · 17/08/2020 22:11

Ive just opened an instagram account, since I've put my photo on ive had lots of random American men follow me and ask to message me, most look most presentable, and mostly doctors(stethoscopes casually flung around necks) or in the military (in uniform), and probably all catfishing me, my children find this hysterical !

Yukkalye · 17/08/2020 22:17

Vodka you've missed Bobby now. He was on Evidence of Evil I think it was called. I wonder if he'd appreciate a fan letter?

Re. Alaska - I believe there's a saying among American women: "The odds are good, but the goods are odd."

Yes Bauble that could work. He'll probably be a vet won't he? I'll take the dog with me.

Take Donald Trump OP Grin

isthismylifenow · 17/08/2020 22:33

You need to go on to Tinder OP. My very short stint there I was chatting to 4 Americans. Every single one of them were widowed and had plenty of moola for all the upcoming visits, as miraculously they were all wealthy and worked in the oil industry. All of them called me Dear though, so all I can say is that shound you wish to add a Nigerian to your list.... You know where to go..

Yukkalye · 17/08/2020 22:38

Diana I'd completely forgotten about that! Thanks for reminding me - love it!

Nooooo servicemen....that's really not ideal. I'd give any very churchy ones a wide berth too. Culturally Boston men are the closest to Brits. I'm American woman who much preferred a Brit and here I am.
