@MaudesMum Notice also that our glorious leader hasn't said a word about why the bloody muzzles have been thrown in, having previously dismissed them. They're determined not to answer this. It points all the more to health not being the reason for them. Sad And I'm sure that a main reason is that it suits the government if the public are divided. As the "stay home" and "clap for the NHS" are no longer dividing lines, they need something else; and because masks are so prominently visual, it makes it easy for the authorities to spot the naysayers.

PinkFondantFancy · 23/07/2020 21:20

Hello all, placemarking. I can't believe what horrible stuff I've read elsewhere on MN too. People are bizarre. I think there is a hefty helping of jealousy that she was on her way somewhere else personally.

TheOrchidKiller · 23/07/2020 21:22

Found you all, like a roomful of mask awareness course attendees.

@Pleasedontdothat Flowers that was our family for ages, fighting to get help & not getting it. (MH issues, not colicky horses).
@LivinLaVidaLoki you can do it!
@110APiccadilly you're right, it is performance now. That's my main objection. If everyone who wore one wore it properly I might feel better about it.

BellaintheWychElm · 23/07/2020 21:29

So glad you didn't put the word mask in the title - it's like a homing beacon for she hoove must not be named.

IAintentDead · 23/07/2020 21:30

I don't think they will make a difference even in America but I can at least see the rationale for them there. Here - utterly pointless.

Willow2017 · 23/07/2020 21:34

no no I will not go on that vile thread I will get banned.
It should have more holes in it than Swiss cheese by now but all the vile comments are left up.
It's absolutely terrifying how people on here many who have children can turn en masse against a mum who had an awful experience looking for support. What are they teaching thier kids?

Posted this on old thread but it was closed!

Unfortunately my next post is...

Willow2017 · 23/07/2020 21:35

Awwww bugger I couldn't resist they are the lowest of the low.

Mn should be ashamed that thread is still standing.

^ a lot of non-zealots are taking the 'but it's worth a try, they can't do any harm' line ... I completely disagree - they do cause harm - particularly when forced on people - not least because they stop people doing the stuff that does actually help - washing their hands, not touching their faces & keeping their distance. I don't want to get ill because other people have adopted the magical thinking approach to infection control "... the mask will keep us all safe."

(fucked off today because I heard the classic woke kids digging into a shared tub of pringles & passing bottle around ... all apparently fine as long as you 'wear a fucking mask' - depressing)

Anyway, after my adventure with the vaccination, I took the children to our local posh town after dropping dd at work. It was lovely. Happy smiley people, flower pots & flags everywhere. Just nice & normal & busy. So different to home town - that's all black & yellow tape, spray painted 2m warnings, lunatic one way systems, glowering PCSOs & awful shouty women in masks guarding shop entrances. I know where I won't be going again anytime soon.

They are - the thread was always going to go that way the first few posts were already piling in which set the tone
DrearyWallAntler · 23/07/2020 22:01

It's the performance that gets me. It feels very like what I imagine Tudor times with the various catholic/protestant purges felt like.

Some people outright doubting.

Majority not really giving a crap but following the reason du jour because that was easiest.

Minority of fanatics whipping the crowd up and being over vigerous with the pitchforks and matches.

Some thinkers that thought maybe none of this shit should be in Latin so only a deified few can understand it and things would be much better if people could understand what the hell was going on.

Welcome to the reformation 2.0

MinesaPinot · 23/07/2020 22:10

A new thread - checking in!

Yes this absolutely spot on. Witch Hunts R Us.
BakewellTarts · 23/07/2020 22:15

@torydeathdrug I love this rurn of phrase and am going to steal it the magical thinking approach to infection control "... the mask will keep us all safe." And I agree with your other points too. You've had a rotten day. I can't believe vaccinations have stopped that isn't going to cause problems now is it Hmm.

torydeathdrug · 23/07/2020 22:16

Welcome to the reformation 2.0

^ absolutely. The reactions to this 'plague' has been not really that different to the reactions 500/600 years ago. Interesting if it weren't so depressing.

"Costa Coffee said it would "not be challenging customers who enter our stores without a mask since they may have a legitimate reason as to why they are unable to wear one."" - good one Costa ... basic humanity like that will sadden the mob, there's sure to be shaking & sobbing & despair.

Ibake · 23/07/2020 22:25

Evening all. Checking in, love the thread title. Have been really busy this week which has been great. Went to Costco this evening to stock up.

I've bought myself a visor and I'm loving it for one reason only. All the smunts who go about 'I'm protecting you so you protect me'. According to govt website, visors only protect the wearer. Ha! The devil in me loves that! Nothing anyone can say though as it's a face covering which is all the rules mandate. Teehee!

Shodan · 23/07/2020 22:30

Lolling at she hoove must not be named Grin

I've clearly missed something (unsurprising tbh)- what are donut bum dogs? And do we all have to have one?

TheOrchidKiller · 23/07/2020 22:30

Saw an open letter from the CEO of Waitrose in a paper today. I know these letters are basically ads for the supermarkets (look at how safe & caring our shops are), but at least there was a bit in it about how some shoppers will not be able to wear masks & should be treated with respect, & "not all disabilities are visible." Good.

You might just have got me banned.

After reading your post, I posted on the mask thread that some of the posters would be knitting at the guillotine.

torydeathdrug · 23/07/2020 22:32

grin @Ibake I was seriously considering getting one of the bad masks - with a filter in not out - if forced I'll protect my fucking self thank you very much & you do you ... but basically I'm a cheapskate & couldn't be arsed.

I do like that everyone got in a flap about Rishi's though (don't worry haterz his isn't a bad one it has an extra filter - but you can't tell by looking .... what a dilemma ... how can we be full on judgemental wankers if ppl don't advertise their goodness plainly enough!)

justasking111 · 23/07/2020 22:34

I think the shops will be very understanding, other customers not so much. If challenged No mask!! - no knickers either wink. Will be my response.

torydeathdrug · 23/07/2020 22:35

@TheOrchidKiller that's good - waitrose will go on to my approved list of non-arseholes then.

I agree - considering they have had customers up to now with no masks they won't make a fuss. Other customers I'm not sure about either - I can imagine who will be approached by a mask stasi and it won't be a big burly man it will be someone who looks weaker than them. Bullies the lot of them.
Lickyicelollies · 23/07/2020 22:58

Hello all. Votes please for a city in Europe which would best suit an AD for a lovely trip...? I want to go away for my milestone birthday in a couple of months and not see masks or perspex screens, to shop, dine and drink like the old normal. So far I've come up with Copenhagen as a front runner.

NothingIsWrong · 23/07/2020 23:06

Vienna is fabulous. Not sure of mask status.

I went to the pub after work. We walked in, got a table no bother. Had a couple of pints. Didn't realise until I left that no one has asked for my details. Is it not compulsory then?

yeOldeTrout · 23/07/2020 23:11

Sweden, Stockholm, if you want a European city that is shrugging at covid, I would have thought.
