How many countries have you visited?

Hi, my friend from school is very well travelled and is now a high end travel agent. She was saying recently that she has been to 47 countries.

Many of them are long haul types ie Australia, Japan, lots of Caribbean and Europe and some really exotic places such as Bora Bora.

I worked out I’ve been to 12 countries which I think is probably more than average. I have an auntie in her 60’s who has never left the country and know a few others who are the same.

It would be really interesting to hear about other people’s experiences. Included are England/Ireland/Scotland/Wales.

Whilst I was very impressed with my friend’s tally, she said one of her bosses has been to almost 70. I just couldn’t imagine even wanting to go to that many places!

There are some seriously impressive lists on here and one or two places I’ve never even heard of .

I have never been to Africa but I’m not sure I want to, I think I would prefer to complete Europe but I’ve got a long way to go.

I would also love to to to several Caribbean islands, especially Barbados and St Maarten where the planes fly over the beach literally above your head.

I’m not a great flier but take some diazepam and fall asleep. I’m inspired to travel more after reading these lists.

18 I think if we're counting England, Scotland, Wales separately, but just 3 of them outside of Europe (all 3 more than once, apparently I'm a creature of habit 😄). Spain and France I've lost count of how many times I've been as I travel to both for work.

Would have added Sweden and Denmark to my list this year if not for bloody covid

38 but I used to travel for work. Lots in Asia and Europe with a smattering in Africa and the Americas.

I've been to 62, all in the last 13 years. Hadn't been abroad until I met my husband at the age of 33. I've been well and truly bitten by the travel bug.

Some of you are so well travelled-love reading these lists.

I've counted 23 countries (my wish list runs to about another 23!) and 10 are multiple visits - US, France, Spain, Portugal, Germany, Belgium, Netherlands, Turkey, Scotland and Wales

This year would have included a few of the above and next we were hoping to add Iceland and Tanzania but not sure now.

I'm always surprised by people on quiz shows who say 'ooh if I win I'd like to take my wife to Italy' as if it's some far flung place

You can get to Rome cheaper than the train from Bristol to Newcastle

I think it comes to 58 or thereabouts but some several times.
Also several crown dependencies and overseas territories like Channel Islands and Hing Kong, which is now China but wasn’t.

Nearly all the countries in Europe and North Africa, many countries in the Middle East. The USA (but nowhere else in the Americas). Japan, China including HK, India and Nepal. Nowhere in the Australian continent.

20 for me. Kids (uni age) have done about 15 which is 14 more than I'd done then!

Acquaintance of mine has done 120 odd! Mostly through work, but he did make a special trip one weekend to tick the 100th off!

Rather than counting sheep, if I can’t sleep I count the countries I have visited.

It should be 50, But doing it in my head as opposed to writing them down it is easy to go wrong ‘Hang on, have I counted Slovenia?’
If in doubt the rule is I have to start again.

It is rare to get to the 50 before nodding off, and never in one go.

A great solution to insomnia.

22 that I can think of offhand, not including UK or countries I've only had layovers in.
Haven't done much of Europe so will hopefully get to tick off a few more while my baby is young and before we go back to long haul.

12. I've been to 1 of those countries many times tho. I love travel but love being at home too so, not fussed about seeing loads of the world. DP's sister lives in Melbourne we're going late 2021 & I'm already dreading the travel there & back.
