If you live by the sea in the UK, where do you live?

And would you recommend it?

There are possible life changes ahead, and I could fulfil my dream of living by the sea.

I don’t want to end up in a holiday resort, though.

Any suggestions would be most welcome. TIA

I live on the Isle of Wight. I would thoroughly recommend it.

LunaNorth · 05/07/2020 22:50

Please would you tell me what’s good about it?

I’ve never been. I’m open to all ideas.

Rutland. It’s about an hour from here. But much quicker than when I lived in Ouagadougou. That was also by the sea but not quite so near.

Croyde is nice.

Nice is crowded.

Tynemouth - its great here, and when youre wearing a wetsuit not actually bad at all to be in the north sea Grin and theres beaches for miles!

Scarby9 · 05/07/2020 22:54

100% recommend it. This was today's view from our windy walk.

@Scarby9 that’s beautiful. Is your name a clue to where you are?

@seaswimmer1 I’ll add Tynemouth to the list of possibilities.

East Devon.

Lived in 4 continents, moved to the UK 3 years ago... would recommend it! Love it.

Nighttimefreedom · 05/07/2020 22:58

@seaswimmer1 ooh I live in North Shields!

OP I was going to say North East coast. Whitley Bay and Tynemouth. Beautiful beaches and about 20 minutes to Newcastle if you need a city.
Lovely countryside on the doorstep too.

Traditional seaside towns and lovely beaches.

catwithflowers · 05/07/2020 23:00

Ha! Another in Tynemouth here. 😳. This is freaky 😅😅

Swansea. Lovely beach and decent house prices. Attached picture is Limeslade Bay, looking towards Mumbles Lighthouse.

I’ve been here for 15 years. Family are in London and the Home Counties, in much more expensive houses and more stresses about decent school places

I think they’re mad! (They probably think I am too!,)

@LunaNorth It is! But I have also lived on the North Wales coast and the Northumbrian coast. All gorgeous. I love a big sky and a huge horizon, which is what you get at the coast, whatever the weather. We so often find ourselves saying 'Aren't we lucky?' And today, I don't think anyone would argue with us

I was born and brought up in North Wales which also has gorgeous coastline. We are spoilt for beautiful coastline in this country.

Nanalisa60 · 05/07/2020 23:22

Why don’t you look at City’s built by the sea.

I can see the Isle of Wight 😀
LunaNorth · 05/07/2020 23:25

I’ve been looking at Amble just now. Is it as nice as it looks?

We’re going on holiday to Warkworth for a week in August, all being well, so we’ll use it as a fact-finding mission.

I live in Caithness and was out surfing this morning. The waves were great today.

LunaNorth · 05/07/2020 23:28

I’ve always adored the sea. Yes to the big skies and the soothing sounds of the waves.

Very sadly my mum passed away a few days ago, and that was my last remaining tie to this area. It’s going to be hard living close to where she was and never visiting again, so I’m trying to tentatively look ahead to what the future might look like.

If I could be by the sea, it would be wonderful.

Wow, some amazing photos.

I can’t imagine the joy of having all that on your doorstep.

Sorry to hear that luna 💐

I live less than 10 minutes walk to the beach...its stoney but that means its not as busy or touristy

Haretodaygonetomorrow · 05/07/2020 23:32

So sorry that you’ve lost your Mum Flowers Living by the sea is very life affirming.

LunaNorth · 05/07/2020 23:33

Thank you @RufustheRowlingReindeer

Roughly whereabouts are you? I think I’d prefer a sandy beach but I’m open to any ideas at the moment.

LunaNorth · 05/07/2020 23:34

@Haretodaygonetomorrow life-affirming is just what I’m hoping for.
