If you live by the sea in the UK, where do you live?

And would you recommend it?

There are possible life changes ahead, and I could fulfil my dream of living by the sea.

I don’t want to end up in a holiday resort, though.

Any suggestions would be most welcome. TIA

Falmouth. This about a 10 minute walk from our house.

Pembrokeshire. It's so beautiful in summer, and wild and windy and raw in winter. House prices are relatively cheap, but we have been stripped of a lot of maternity/scbu/paediatric healthcare in recent years.

Whitley Bay here. An amazing amount of us in the NE on here (I think we are all probably quite quick to respond to these threads as we love where we live!)

Bluesheep8 · 06/07/2020 06:57

Someone said Rutland upthread. Rutland? Isn't that next to Leicestershire? It's nowhere near the sea.

TheBitchOfTheVicar · 06/07/2020 07:00

North Norfolk coast - I don't think it has been mentioned yet

Another Newcastle based one - come to the NE for sure, all of the beaches are beautiful, particularly druridge bay. Highlights along the coastline are: Tynemouth, Cullercoats, Amble, Craster (beautiful harbour village with a very dramatic walk up to Dunstanburgh Castle), Druridge Bay and many more besides. We love it here and would never leave!! We're less than 10 minutes from the coast, 10 minutes from the airport, excellent schools, relatively cheap property, amazing shopping in the cities, the history in both Newcastle and nearby Durham, plenty for families to do and only an hour or so from the border if you fancy a trip to Scotland! What's not to love?

Zoflorabore · 06/07/2020 07:56

Liverpool is right on the coast and has some absolutely amazing beaches as you leave the city and head towards Crosby and follow the coastline towards Southport.

We are about a 20 minute drive to both Liverpool city Centre and Crosby beach. The best of both worlds really and the cost of living is much lower than average with a huge amount to do and see.

Camomila · 06/07/2020 08:03

Brighton, I love it.
South Downs National Park to the North
Liberal City in the middle
Beach to the South

Massive holiday resort tho!

WannabeJolie · 06/07/2020 08:45

My heart belongs to Northumberland but currently stuck down south. We’re holidaying in Amble again this year and we love it. A beautiful county with some stunning scenery.

lljkk · 06/07/2020 08:55

I live 5 miles from sea but don't see self as living by the sea. Need to be within 1 mile I reckon.

4amWitchingHour · 06/07/2020 08:58

@Bluesheep8 yeah the idiot that said Rutland was just trying to be funny

Hope you find a place you love OP - I've never considered living by the sea (I'm all about green and rolling hills) but this thread is making me reconsider. Sorry for the loss of your mum x

HappyPotato · 06/07/2020 09:04

We live on the edge of Exmoor, lots of lovely beaches to choose from either towards Somerset or towards Devon. For me, it's also the perfect combination of seasides, hills and forests!

IndecentFeminist · 06/07/2020 09:04

Isle of Wight. Very happy here, lived on edge of new forest and grew up in Whitstable. I've always lived by the sea, I do take it for granted sometimes but try not too.

Sunnydayshereatlast · 06/07/2020 09:09

View from my window... Not much where I live but it's canny!!

Thanks 4am. How odd!

Frazzled2207 · 06/07/2020 09:16

Not me but when we’ve been on hols to the North East coast we’ve always said it would be where we would go if we didn’t have ties where we are (Manchester area). Was beautiful, seemed very liveable, not too pricey and easy reach to Newcastle.

OlafLovesAnna · 06/07/2020 09:17

@rufustherowlingreindeer I live there too. Hi neighbour!

It's made me a little homesick as we're currently living abroad with DH job.

LunaNorth · 06/07/2020 09:22

This has turned into a gorgeous thread.

Thank you for all your suggestions. I think we’re definitely leaning towards NE.

RufustheRowlingReindeer · 06/07/2020 09:25

Hello mean

Ive just checked back 😀

My children had a healthy non-interest in The beach when they were tweens

Now dd can hang out down there with her friends it’s apparently a lot more fun 🤔

RufustheRowlingReindeer · 06/07/2020 09:26

Lots of beautiful beaches, I’m sure you’ll find somewhere gorgeous luna

dottiedodah · 06/07/2020 09:31

We live 10 mins from the sea here in Bournemouth. Highly recommended (Oh hang on not too highly dont want too many people decamping here!) Seriously just lifts my mood hugely .

PrawnMeringue · 06/07/2020 09:53

@PhilCornwall1 That looks like Gylly Beach. I live a minute's walk away! Op I'm so sorry to hear about your mum. Falmouth is a wonderful place to live. Lots of energy, creative because of the university, great restaurants, lovely beaches. By far the friendliest place I've lived.

PhilCornwall1 · 06/07/2020 09:55

@PrawnMeringue

Spot on, it's Gylly Grin

Ginfordinner · 06/07/2020 10:01

Druridge Bay yesterday. Just down the road from Warkworth.
