If you live by the sea in the UK, where do you live?

And would you recommend it?

There are possible life changes ahead, and I could fulfil my dream of living by the sea.

I don’t want to end up in a holiday resort, though.

Any suggestions would be most welcome. TIA

I live on the Isle of Wight. Love it but the ferry costs are ridiculous.

I grew up being able to see the hills of Arran from my bedroom. Played on the sand dunes as a child. Really miss living by the sea now Sad

transformandriseup · 06/07/2020 13:15

I live an a village outside of St Ives and there are several beaches nearby however where we live isn't particularly touristy.

YerAWizardHarry · 06/07/2020 13:17

I live in Aberdeen, Scotland. It's a small city so has all the benefits of having the amenities on your doorstep but is also a stones throw from the beach/countryside/mountains etc. I love it and some of the towns in Aberdeenshire are lovely if you want that villagey feel.

Wolfiefan · 06/07/2020 13:41

I would love to live closer to the sea. I would love a dog friendly place where the dogs had an expanse to run on.
A lovely dream.

Druridge Bay is 10 minutes away. It's gorgeous. That's my grandson chasing a gull.

RTFT fail, ginfordinner has better pics. Mind you, our end has the Drift and the ice cream shop.

North Edinburgh - 15 minutes from a swimming beach. 20 minutes from the city centre. It’s been amazing during lockdown.

FreezerBird · 06/07/2020 14:27

@FreezerBird, is that Aber? Sorry, I can't see the pic very well! Such happy, happy memories for me of that lovely place.

@BoxAndKnife yes, the view is of Aber from Consti. The sunset is Clarach, and the other one is Ynyslas.

DisgraceToTheYChromosome · 06/07/2020 15:04

@LunaNorth: Three at the end of next month. Time flies when you're having fun.

BoxAndKnife · 06/07/2020 15:50

@FreezerBird, I was a student at Aber in the 90s. I used to show people photos of Ynyslas, taken on a sunny day with blue skies stretching for miles, and they never believed it was even the UK Grin

Beautiful place, thank you for sharing those photos!

vanillandhoney · 06/07/2020 16:33

Cumbria - about 30 minutes from the National Park.

It's absolutely beautiful.

Pembrokeshire here also (below the landsker line) it is lovely here and I can't imagine ever living in a city but only a handful of the beaches have dog bans.

user1497787065 · 06/07/2020 17:17

I was born in Sidmouth. Lovely to spend days at the beach or swim in the sea after school. I didn't really appreciate that until I moved away. I'm only about twenty miles from the sea now but feels like hours away in comparison.

OlafLovesAnna · 06/07/2020 18:05

@RufustheRowlingReindeer you got it in one - he's in the local industry! We are supposed to be coming home next year but you can never count on it.

I would love love love to live in Portrush. We holiday there when we can, but as it’s a whole sea away, we don’t manage it as often as we’d like.

Kez200 · 06/07/2020 21:27

SE Cornwall.

But I was brought up by the sea. Grandfather a fisherman. Grandparents, both sets, ran guest houses. So, I would miss the sea awfully, but Id not expect everyone to.

But we dont have easy access to theatres or cinemas. Nor to big chain stores. Nor is it flat! School theres little choice. And parkings awful! So it's not for everyone.

@elephantoverthehill I can see the Isle of Wight from my bedroom window, I live in Selsey, a strange little town but I love it here and wouldn’t live anywhere else. Originally from South London and made the move 15 years ago, wild horses couldn’t drag me back.

happysunr1se · 06/07/2020 21:44

I'd love to live in Falmouth, my small fantasy is a water side apartment in the Packet Quays or my huge fantasy if I was super rich, a house somewhere in Helford passage. Unfortunately I am poor :(

RufustheRowlingReindeer · 06/07/2020 22:01

Been to the holiday park at selsey many times llama

Bunn leisure, dh grandparents had a caravan there (possibly before it was bunn leisure)
