Here's a new thread for discussing aircon, aubergines, and Goth music.

@BarkandCheese

Surely scampi and lemon are the king of the nik nac flavours?
🤢
rookiemere · 23/06/2020 09:09

Barkandcheese I don't really believe in conspiracy theories, mainly because I feel the British government is too incompetent to be that coordinated.

I do however believe there is something sinister and non covid related behind Scottish governments dogged determination to continue with blended learning no matter what, even though the home learning element of it is clearly failing our children.

Allflightscancelled · 23/06/2020 09:12

@mylittleyumyum I'm not a conspiracy theorist generally, although I do enjoy reading them, but I do think the government is controlllin the media messaging to a huge degree during the covid madness. I mentioned this on an earlier thread but I think it's to do with what Boris called 'going on a war footing', which he and the rest of them kept mentioning at the start. If you google what wartime regulations mean, it does include control of the media for various reasons. So I do think there may be an element of that.

But all the other stuff about it being to do with 5G masts, or a worldwide attempt at subjugating the people – Nah. Not really.

Drivingdownthe101 · 23/06/2020 09:12

I’m always willing to look at alternative viewpoints, but like rookiemere I do not believe that our government has the competence to pull anything like that off.

mylittleyumyum · 23/06/2020 09:12

I have been reading more and more articles on the David Icke website. Now I know that not everyone has time for him and automatically think 'lizard people', but his views and the scientists and doctors who support them are very compelling and interesting.

Again, I have only been brought round to this way of thinking very recently so I'm still looking to be convinced myself.

I read this one today davidicke.com/2020/06/22/ive-been-sent-this-flyer-with-some-covid-background-for-people-to-circulate-among-those-who-only-watch-the-mainstream-news/

SummerHouse · 23/06/2020 09:14

I am off running but think about it everyday. That counts right. It was only enjoyable for me once I got to over 10k then I loved it in a mad, ill advised affair type way and did a marathon.

Allflightscancelled · 23/06/2020 09:14

Oh, and thanks for the new thread Grin

Sorry for al those whose kids aren't having a good experience of returning to school. My DD's older, but her experience last week was shite also. I've informed the school she won't be going back for now, but if they introduce some actual teaching, then she definitely will, so to keep us posted.

Ibake · 23/06/2020 09:15

Morning. I've come on to vent so bear with! Son got an eye infection, it's not gone away. Called GP yesterday only doing same day appts, call back this morning. Just called, actually only doing phone triage at the moment and all appts for this morning gone, call back at 1pm for this afternoon's triage appts. Wtf? I went a couple of weeks ago for my smear and place was deserted, ended up chatting to one of the GP's for a while as I know her ie she was in reception because she had no patients! They are not doing anything, and when you do go it's PPE, masks etc ie pretty bloody safe as they won't see you (understandably) if you've got Covid symptoms. Just kind of begs the question what the fuck are they actually doing whilst taking the govts money for not doing it. Bit like some schools really...

mylittleyumyum · 23/06/2020 09:17

I don't think I could ever reach 10k, nor 6k. I ran with my 60 year old aunt a few times, and her pace was a lot slower than mine, more of a jog, but certainly more enjoyable. Perhaps I should jog it instead of running, but running sounds more worthy...

Allflightscancelled · 23/06/2020 09:17

Off now to check how many more people have dropped like flies in my area in the last 24 hours

Worldgonecrazy · 23/06/2020 09:17

The government have published their document about social and media messaging, so that’s not a conspiracy theory. The government wanted to scare people to the point where they felt personally threatened and use social pressures to ensure compliance. I think it worked better than expected and now it’s all about toying with us. There is fuck all reason for us to still be in lockdown but here we are ...

SummerHouse · 23/06/2020 09:18

Yes mylittleyumyum I call it rogging. It's a cross between running and jogging and way cool.

Allflightscancelled · 23/06/2020 09:19

Right. So that's none, then

Orangeblossom78 · 23/06/2020 09:19

Morning!

The Times front page is a bit about new things happening like opening up, but then more about ME and new cancer treatments than the virus today. Which is maybe good.

Sad to see it seems gyms (and pools I guess) may not be in the next things to open on July 4th though. I hope that comes soon.

PickAChew · 23/06/2020 09:20

Scampi and lemon FTW.

Though best kept as a find memory.

LadyOfTheImprovisedBath · 23/06/2020 09:21

All my DC will be in school one morning next week - all different days.

Primary has been good and put them in friendship bubbles. They were quite keen to tell us all the other parents were very positive - we are too.

We took DD2 out couple of days early as it was being made clear they weren't doing any work and everyone but DD1 was home by then.

We kept DS home after Jonhson speach about those who have flu injections were high risk - DS and I do becuase of our asthma. The secondary school was also poor with infection control they were having inter-year assemblies still.

Sent DD1 Y10 in till end as we thought Y10 she needs as much time in as possible. We are happier now asthma doesn't seem to be a huge risk that was first thought.

I have been looking at home air con - DD1 has only south facing bedroom and it isn't taking much to get too hot. I think it's out our price range - so I keep looking at fans with ice sections. I've also seen ceiling fan light attachments - but haven't got beyond looking yet.

mylittleyumyum · 23/06/2020 09:22

Ah, rogging. I'm going for a rog. Hmm, I think DH would follow me if I bounded out the door for a rog.

I should get back into some form of exercise. Pre shit-show we used to enjoy hill walking. It's a scunner being able to see the hills from the house but not be able to go up them.

Orangeblossom78 · 23/06/2020 09:24

Mind you there is a bit of dementing with a new phrase

www.thetimes.co.uk/edition/news/coronavirus-second-peak-in-new-year-could-overload-hospitals-vmq2bfb28

super-spreading clusters

"A second wave of the coronavirus in winter could overwhelm hospitals, NHS bosses said yesterday, as researchers predicted a fresh peak in the new year.

Experts said that super-spreading clusters of the disease in places such as meat-packing factories “posed a significant risk” to control efforts."

SpnBaby1967 · 23/06/2020 09:25

It's going to be crazy hot here this week, I have kitchen roll under my bra to soak up the bra sweat (and I'm not even endowed in that area). Kids are doing a sports day at school today. Virtual for those not at school to join in with.

I'm currently sat staring at my work computer, I should do some work but I cant be arsed frankly.

LadyOfTheImprovisedBath · 23/06/2020 09:28

My parents GP is seeing cases and has been throughout - but only ones they have to and they try and avoid any meet of people.

Having said that last few times it's been farcical with two entrances both saying use the other one - as one has mobnilty problems so they ended up at differnct entraces bangging on doors. Then it's the budging attitude that upsets them a bit.

iamapixie · 23/06/2020 09:30

Just checking in. So bloody depressed.

AnxiousElephant77 · 23/06/2020 09:31

@Mascotte I thought so. I do remember being about 15 and eating a packet of scampi ones on my way home from school, before I walked to the dentist, forgetting I was going. Terrible memory, the poor dentist.

Orangeblossom78 · 23/06/2020 09:32

Right, sorry to share dementing Time articles, it goes on to say might not be and the contact tracing thing will probably stop it. Fingers crossed.

Very hot here today as well, thinking of going a walk before it heats up too much.

LadyOfTheImprovisedBath · 23/06/2020 09:32

begrudging attitude - though budgeting would also fit as my parents frequently have to buy their own supplies as they're not given enough and there is and attitude they should supply items and cart them to GP surgery themselves.

bookworm14 · 23/06/2020 09:34

Checking in.

I’m as anti dementor as they come, but David Icke is properly batshit and nothing he says should be given any credence.
