Here's a new thread for discussing aircon, aubergines, and Goth music.

I'm trying to pretend I need to go to Wilkos for picture frames when I really want luminous orange Cheetos. They're the only place that does the sticks not the puffs. Big three million calories. And like Mr Rookiemere and @Nihiloxica I want to lay off the snacks and drinks.

The weather is extremely depressing in my bit of Scotland and there is absolutely nothing to do. I can feel the mentalness creeping back!

Pleasedontdothat · 23/06/2020 08:41

Spicy nik naks were my feckless ex’s favourite snack so therefore they are the devil’s work (along with air con). I’d actually completely forgotten they existed until this thread and I’ve now been plunged back into grungy pubs in Bristol in the late 80s

I’m getting a bit anxious about what the ‘plus’ bit will be with the ‘1m plus’ announcement later ... I think mandatory masks in more places will send me over the edge 😬

BarkandCheese · 23/06/2020 08:42

No rain here, and no air con either. I do have a ceiling fan though, but I’m not sure I want it. DH having been put on 50% time is Bored, so he’s doing jobs around the place. Once he’d run power to his shed (he does have electrician qualifications so it’s legal) , fixed the guttering on the conservatory and rebuilt the collapsed wall in the garden he’d run out of things to do, so he decided to instal a ceiling fan in the bedroom. We had one in our old flat which I don’t remember being either big or an eyesore, and I really should have have paid more attention to what he bought, but I now have a thing on my bedroom ceiling which by day looks like the Mir space station and by night looks like a giant spider waiting to drop onto me. He’s now moved on to building a motor powered swing that will be part of our Halloween front garden display. The plan is to put a creepy doll on it and have it swinging while a recording of DD singing a slowed down nursery rhyme plays.

InsaneInTheViralMembrane · 23/06/2020 08:42

LethargicLump 10lbs? Bit amateurish, are you even really trying? My neighbour tried to tell me at the weekend that I don’t eat enough and that my body has gone into starvation mode... the emergency lockdown wardrobe would suggest otherwise, but I do enjoy hearing health titbits from people 7 stone wet.

ISaySteadyOn · 23/06/2020 08:43

You all type too fast ☺.
On the previous thread, some of you said you were feeling guilty for sending your DC to school. Well, I think mothers will feel guilty whatever they do. I feel guilty for taking DS out.

I am also v disappointed. He and I looked forward to his going back and he tried. But he came home unhappy, unhappier than he has been through this whole thing, and his behaviour reflected it. He could not handle the new rules and restrictions. He's much happier at home but I still feel worried that I am depriving him of something.

Oh, @Nihiloxica I went to New York for the first time last year and absolutely loved it! Had planned to go back this year...not gone to plan.

Which part did you stay in?

mylittleyumyum · 23/06/2020 08:47

Good morning all. What a thoroughly miserable day in Scotland.

Thank you for the lockdownloo link, I can't remember who posted it now but I'll certainly be planning any future days out around it.

I keep meaning to ask, do we have many conspiracy theorists on here? A good work friend of mine is very questioning of the government and media, and keeps sending me interesting links that get me thinking. However when I try to discuss said theories with my nearest and dearest they back a way, looking a bit Hmm

Brooklyn, mostly Park Slope and Bed-Stuy.

I loved it so much.

Morning all! My ankle and my pre-injured hip flexor hurt and I have a massive itchy insect bite on my calf so I am sulking this morning. However, the house is still standing! Apparently the neighbours had the same issue with their lintel too so it was clearly the original builders who bodged it, and it’s stayed up for a long time so I’m quietly hopeful that it will stay up until July 17th, which is when the guys are due to return with the girders to hold it up 👍

AnxiousElephant77 · 23/06/2020 08:51

I love the cheesy ones too but you don't see them so much any more.

ProfessorRadcliffeEmerson · 23/06/2020 08:51

Marking place! Glad to have found you all.

KaronAVyrus · 23/06/2020 08:52

Checking in.

MaudesMum · 23/06/2020 08:52

Morning everyone! I'm off to give blood this afternoon, and the blood service send you many many reminders in advance (4 texts, 1 email, 1 letter). It was only with yesterday's text that they said they'd prefer me to wear a mask, which I am now having to lovingly handcraft. I'm afraid on a hot day I am not going to walk through the streets of my quiet town wearing the damn thing, so will put it on just outside, thereby rendering it fairly useless. Brave new world etc etc.

I have a wondrous child free weekend in New York planned for my 40th. If I haven’t sadly died by then.
RubberDinghyRapids · 23/06/2020 08:53

Ooh new Fred!
No rain here, going to be hot hot hot. Week 7 of C25k done and it was NOT enjoyable. When does it get enjoyable? I want to skip to that bit.

mylittleyumyum · 23/06/2020 08:57

C25K doesn't ever get enjoyable imo. I did it five years ago, skipped a couple of weeks just to get the 5k over and done with. I found it unbearable.

People kept telling me that once I got through the 'wall' it would feel great... Nope. I panted and rasped my way through 3 or 4 5k runs searching for the high that never came.

The best bit was posting my gloaty strava map after each one but even that lost it's shine after a time.

Mascotte · 23/06/2020 08:57

@Nihiloxica we went over to Brooklyn to visit friends and it was amazing. Lived the whole vibe. Also loved the village, which they laughed at and said it was for old hippies... exactly, I said!

Best city ever, and I don't say that lightly.

Mascotte · 23/06/2020 08:58

@AnxiousElephant77 I think they've discontinued the cheesy ones...😱

IME running gets enjoyable around kilometre 6.

But I'm trying to make myself enjoy 5K because my 10K speed has just plateau'd at a slow, ploddy pave and I'm bored of it.

Worldgonecrazy · 23/06/2020 09:03

Loved c25k. The enjoyment for me came when I got my head around the fact that I could run for more than 20 seconds without collapsing in a heap. I may never be a runner but I can run 💪🏿 I feel a bit virtuous about it 😇

I like good conspiracy theory. I don’t blindly believe them, but I think it’s interesting to see other perspectives on things.
DominaShantotto · 23/06/2020 09:04

Morning. Hot and sunny here which unfortunately means the biting insects are out and I’m very tasty apparently - one of the Bastards has got me right on the knee cap and I react quite impressively to bites too! Just been to the chemist to pick up a prescription anyway so got some advice on better stuff to put on it

I agree. It is absolutely the best city ever.

I also love the Village.

Surely scampi and lemon are the king of the nik nac flavours?

Worldgonecrazy · 23/06/2020 09:06

DD went back to school this week. There is an understanding by all parties that the roolz are different when teacher is looking and when teacher is not looking .
