There's a PEACOCK in my garden!!

DD went out at 2pm yesterday and screamed, I thought she was messing around but nope, there it was! It was actually a peahen :)
And it is still here, showing off to my cockerels and roosting in a tree for the second night!
At what point does it stop being 'that peahen' and start being 'my peahen'?

Don't worry, I am making attempts to locate an owner....... just not trying too hard....

DD's school have peacocks. They don't belong to the school but to a nearby public gardens. They are regulary to be seen in the playground and wandering about the school car park though.

They make a lot of noise OP.

Enjoy your peahen I hope she finds a handsome peacock to join her soon to complete your joy :)

I have been bitten on my bum more than once by a goose. They hate me.

Well, I suppose you could describe an emu as being thick and stick-y... Grin

MikeUniformMike · 17/06/2020 20:44

I imagined a sort of molten one - sort of Daliesque.

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 17/06/2020 20:49

We've got some bullfinches at the bird feeder. I was impressed by them.

Now I feel like I need an upgrade.

ErrolTheDragon · 17/06/2020 21:41

We regularly get normal pheasants, but once a male golden pheasant showed up, no idea where from or where he went!

I want to live somewhere with celebrity pearls. All I’ve got are magpies and bloody pigeons!

altiara · 17/06/2020 22:18

Peacocks! Not pearls 😂

SlightyJaded · 17/06/2020 22:32

ooooh the white one is lovely. I'm amazed Kim Kardashian didn't demand 4000000000 of them at her wedding.

I have a friend who lives in a vair grand house with deer, peacocks and whatnot in the grounds. They are beautiful but fucking noisy and I was a bit scared of them

We don't have anything so grand round here but there are lots of wild bright green parakeets, so on a hot day you can lie in the garden and look/listen to them and pretend you are on a tropical island.

SlightyJaded · 17/06/2020 22:33

Also how beautiful is that Caroline Wood Duck? Shock

Mightymurphy · 17/06/2020 22:39

This lives in the fields next to me.

@MyFamilyAndOtherAnimals1
Those eggs are pretty reasonable I guess. The ones I looked at were grown up ones and were hundreds of pounds. I was shocked that people let them just wander about. Although this thread has shown that they do!
I'll have to keep my fingers crossed for the lottery, I live on a council estate and I don't think the neighbours would appreciate that racket they make Grin

fuckinghellapeacock · 18/06/2020 08:27

She is still here!!!!! Even thou it's raining. She is in the horse chestnut tree :)

Is she lost? Don't they usually hang out in a group...... need to google the word!

Megatron · 18/06/2020 08:32

Peafowl! @userxx. I think the do sometimes live alone though.

userxx · 18/06/2020 08:32

muster 👍

userxx · 18/06/2020 08:35

Is it? Google says muster, oh well. They bloody didn't live alone when I got off the coach in Turkey at some random stop off point, there were tons of them!

AdaColeman · 18/06/2020 08:37

There are a few collective nouns for peafowl, I like an Ostentation best!

fuckinghellapeacock · 18/06/2020 08:40

I want an Ocellated Turkey!!!
WOW!

userxx · 18/06/2020 08:52

I love collective nouns.

Iwantacookie · 18/06/2020 09:04

Oh wow I never seen a peacock in the wild before if someones back garden can be described as the wild
I assumed people had them as pets.
Not a big bird fan so seeing one of those in the garden would freak me out. Grin

userxx · 18/06/2020 09:23

Not a big bird fan so seeing one of those in the garden would freak me out.

Same, I'm sure I started screaming fucking peacocks at the top of my voice when I stepped off the bus and made myself look quite mad. The fear is real.

ThickFast · 18/06/2020 09:24

Wow golden pheasants are amazing too. Think our plasterer keeps them.

fuckinghellapeacock · 18/06/2020 09:26

A parliament of owls
A murder of crows
A charm of goldfinches

Birds get the best collective nouns......
