There's a PEACOCK in my garden!!

DD went out at 2pm yesterday and screamed, I thought she was messing around but nope, there it was! It was actually a peahen :)
And it is still here, showing off to my cockerels and roosting in a tree for the second night!
At what point does it stop being 'that peahen' and start being 'my peahen'?

Don't worry, I am making attempts to locate an owner....... just not trying too hard....

@fuckinghellapeacock

I can't say where I live in case the peacock hunters come! I'll go on my phone and add a photo in a second. It is so exciting. My own Peahen. Maybe she'll lay eggs. I can see she is impressed by my Brahma cockerel :) He's MASSIVE
You're more likely to get people flocking to see this massive cock you're boasting about
MyFamilyAndOtherAnimals1 · 16/06/2020 23:14

@RightOnTheEdge Oh My Goodness!!! They are bloomin' expensive aren't they?!! Hatching eggs are normally a couple of quid each (at most!) - but peacock hatching eggs are like about £15 each!!!

ProseccoBubbleFantasies · 16/06/2020 23:17

There was a post on our nextdoor a few weeks ago that read "peacock found on our garden shed. Think it's a female"

Which amused me for days not much to laugh about in lockdown because I'm no ornithologist, but even I can tell the difference between male and female peacocks.
Not the trans ones, of couse

Can we see a pic of your Brahma cockerel? I've always wanted a Brahma. We had a Sulmtaler bantam cockerel and he was a stunner.

Imissmoominmama · 16/06/2020 23:19

My friend has loads in her (massive) garden. They’re noisy buggers and their poos are enormous. They do look wonderful as you approach the house though. Some of them are pure white.

PickwickThePlockingDodo · 16/06/2020 23:20

Not fair, I want a peahen in my garden.

Unescorted · 16/06/2020 23:21

Dear goodness - find it's owner as soon as .They are so noisy.

ElGuardiandenoche · 16/06/2020 23:22

If you live in Corsham in Wiltshire then you quite often find the peacocks and hens strutting around, they live in Corsham Court next to the high street and hop over the wall.

There's a PEACOCK in my garden!!
Tartyflette · 16/06/2020 23:28

We have a local one too although i havent seen her this year.
Last year she hung around our garden for a couple of days.
Here she is in the patio.

Tartyflette · 16/06/2020 23:30

....on the patio.... not in! We didn't put her into it. Honest.

SirVixofVixHall · 16/06/2020 23:32

I long for peacocks. I have a cottage garden, I can only fit in bantams.
We can’t see your pic OP, can you try again ?

ErrolTheDragon · 16/06/2020 23:33

I can see the OPs photo - there can be delays uploading to the servers I think, sometimes they appear in the app version before the browser or vv.

HesterShaw1 · 16/06/2020 23:36

We have a flock of peacocks and pea hens that roam the village. Noisy buggers.

newmumwithquestions · 16/06/2020 23:40

My favourite chicken is my Brahma. Maybe she could meet your cockerel. We have a silkie rooster and he’s not quite up to the job. He can’t ... you know.... reach.

misses point that’s this thread is about peacocks not chickens

GiraffesAreBeautiful · 16/06/2020 23:40

I feel left out. All we have are feckin magpies tormenting the cats. Evil bastards, Magpies.

Errol I am jealous.
I can see the pics posted by others, but not the OP. ☹️

GreyHare · 16/06/2020 23:44

There a few wild ones near Andover too, they seem to invade peoples gardens and keep everyone awake when it's mating season.

Bowerbird5 · 17/06/2020 00:39

No wonder you haven’t seen her this year Tartyflette thinks she is back tracking now. She is very pretty.

There were quite a few owned by a publican in the village DH grew up in. Years later one was found dead. Someone had rung his neck. People wanted to know which local it was...to congratulate them. I know who did it. It wasn’t DH we lived 300 miles away. It was a very noisy bird.
We have several owls in the wood but recently two have moved into the trees in the church yard. It was lovely to hear them calling before I went to bed. Not so lovely when it was hot and I had the sash down and it woke me up. Went on for ages. We have woodpeckers on the village green and we did have red squirrels. Two used to hop over the wall and run along my path right outside the kitchen door. They buried their nuts all over my garden. Love them. We used to sit with a mug of tea watching them run up and down the trees on the green. They had babies one year so cute.
I have three black Bantys. I got them during lockdown to keep my old hen company. They lay different coloured eggs.🍳

OPYou could start a blog on The Adventures of a Peahen.

AdaColeman · 17/06/2020 00:53

How exciting! I hope she lays you a few eggs before she goes, they’d be a culinary delicacy!

Thegreymethod · 17/06/2020 00:54

I've never seen a peacock round near us but we have got a parrot flying around our village and landing in peoples gardens, it's become the talk of the town with new people spotting if every day and people trying to catch it and it getting away (it's not an African grey BTW!)

Osirus · 17/06/2020 01:01

@1stMrsF

Where I live there is a local celebrity pea hen that visits the whole village often!
I bet you live near me 1st Grin
popsydoodle4444 · 17/06/2020 01:06

My friends live on a small holding and they have visiting peacocks. They turn up every now then. There's one particular one my friend dislikes as it likes to shit on his Jaguar which is actually quite amusing.

ElGuardiandenoche · 17/06/2020 03:47

@GiraffesAreBeautiful, all I have is seagulls 🙄 Which is why I’m awake at nearly four in the morning. It’s like Alfred Hitchcocks The Birds out there at the moment.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 17/06/2020 05:09

Ooh hopefully she'll Fall in love with Mr Peacock and have lots of itty bitty babies, awwwwwwwww
