Thanks for the new thread. Checking in.

Forgot to say earlier but today has been filled with lovely real life anti dementors some of whom surprised me. I hope the tide is turning.

DominaShantotto · 09/06/2020 21:11

Checking in before I go attempt to get some sleep tonight - I'm not sleeping again.

Got one of the uni assessments back that I did with the kids running around, DH on a work call and chaos in the house - 95%. Not quite sure how the fuck I pulled that one out of the bag! Just trying to slog through some lectures I didn't catch up on when uni closed quickly for lockdown - I don't know I want to do a year of online only as it was no fun and very hard going (and DH never lets me get on with stuff in peace).

Kids still so much calmer with school going on - I'm going to spend tomorrow firing off emails to the cabinet and MP etc about how ridiculous this bloody school situation is I think. They'll be ignored, but at least I'll have done something.

Nihiloxica · 09/06/2020 21:12

Shit, I started a duplicate. Ah well, never mind.

Jeezo, 95% on an assignment is fantastic @DominaShantotto I work in HE and rarely see scores that high!

I thought the lockdown was the right thing to do. Still do. But.

First it was necessary to prevent the NHS being overwhelmed Northern Italy style. All right, that was horrific, let’s avoid that. Then that worked and I thought great, success!... and then lockdown continued and everyone was cheering it on.

Then the government started talking about testing and tracing. So I thought okay, fair enough, keep it going long enough to get cases low enough for that to work, that way we can come out of lockdown and not ever ever have to go back in. Then result, testing and tracing system set up! And yet it’s STILL going on. And loads of people shave decided they don’t want test and trace after all and want this instead?

And now it’s dragged on for months, we’re talking about part-time education for our children come August, and my 70+ relatives get to go out shopping, garden centre, tennis, golfing, nice walk round National Trust properties, while my children are shut up inside getting sadder and screamier and my friends who live alone are apparently not supposed to hug anyone until... WHAT? Until there’s a vaccine? What are we waiting for at this point? Fine fine take slow and cautious steps back to normal life but we do actually have to GET back to normal life.

We have 2000 contact tracers in Scotland and today there were 14 new cases of covid. I am not an expert in contact tracing myself but I am fairly sure that 2000 of them can manage that. And yet we still can’t expect full-time schools in sodding August?

I still think they’re gambling on the vaccine coming sooner rather than later (and I think it probably will myself) but if governments or the public or whoever want the population to live in hellish limbo until then then at least SAY so. So we can disagree.

Bollss · 09/06/2020 21:16

Well done @DominaShantotto!

I am inexplicably pissed off tonight. Nothing as such has happened I have just had enough.

SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito · 09/06/2020 21:16

Hi all. I've been in a foul mood all day but have had a bit of a cry this evening which has helped. Also emailed JK Rowling in support and got a lovely response back from her team which has cheered me up a bit.

Waiting to hear of DD has a place at school next week. Fingers crossed. Trying not to think about Sept too much, when she'll be in year two and so not matter any more.

I got 93% on one exam as well - academically I know I'm very strong and hence I'm hoping the department are very flexible if I have childcare issues with school being fubared in the Autumn as a result to keep me on the course! They're making noises about seeing if they can shift modules over 2 years if I need to so I can do next year part-time... what I'm hoping is I can get permission to run with shittyish attendance catching up on the recorded stuff each night if required and I can't get in. I've been banking the academic goodwill to get myself taken seriously.

Basically I missed a first all those years ago - with undiagnosed dyslexia and spending most of my time in the bar - by 2 fucking marks and this is a grudge revenge match!

GoldenOmber · 09/06/2020 21:19

Bloody brilliant Domina!

MaxNormal · 09/06/2020 21:19

Ffs no escape. I'm watching the Voyager episode "One". Fecking lockdown episode!

SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito · 09/06/2020 21:21

Oh no, Max, pick another one! Maybe a Borg collective one, just for the thrill of being so close to so many others!

Bollss · 09/06/2020 21:21

I've seen a lot of "track and trace isn't working!"

The app isn't but the people are. I've a relative doing it (no really! I have Grin) and she's not had a single call yet!

Teateaandmoretea · 09/06/2020 21:22

@goldenomber that has been pretty much exactly my thought process. Let my kids out on their own to play today, starting to take back control

I sat and watched Red Dwarf Quarantine (aka the Mr Flibble one) at the start of lockdown.

Mr Flibble needs to let us the fuck out.

Willow2017 · 09/06/2020 21:24

Evening flouters.
Nearly posted on the new thread about families matter but i have no energy left. Apparently op needs it explained why shops are ok to open but play areas arent as its obvious and necessary. Because using gel or washing your hands is ok in a shop but not in a park i suppose?
Apparently all our underwear is falling to bits after 11 weeks and we will all be grateful for primark! My fucking nearest primark is 45 miles away not much fucking good in scotland! I have 3 supermarkets i can get cheap clothes from if i so desperately need them! I wrote out a ragey post at the ignorance and fecking PA insults at the apparent thickos flocking to primark but i deleted it. I don't need to get sucked in to another batshit crazy discussion.

Sorry rant over i am just done listening to this bullshit now. Where the feck did common sense and pride in the fact you can challenge the gov in this country go? Not a bloody cheep from any of those wasters getting paid a fortune to advocate for us. They have all rolled over under the mass hysteria they have encouraged. Fecking cowards.

I can’t wait for this utter shambles to be over. Nearly 3 months of lockdown - what a total farce.

TheGreatWave · 09/06/2020 21:25

Evening. Just been talking to my teacher sister (secondary /A level) she is very much looking forward to being back. Thinks the 25% as a blanket rule is ridiculous, especially as there is only the one year in (or two if have a level students too) Yr 10's are having 1/2 day a week, - but core subjects only.

She is doing a half day yr 10 and a half day A level - her main 'beef' is that the children are a random selection, so she won't be having her classes - though she may know some of them.

She is pretty much a rule keeper, but I just wanted to share that not all teachers are doom and gloom.

Checking in. These threads are keeping me sane.

justasking111 · 09/06/2020 21:27

Wales - first minister was wittering on about flu jabs in the autumn. I suddenly thought how the heck will we achieve that with social distancing our surgery locked down, ditto our chemist you can only stand just inside the door. The dentists saying they can only see six patients a day, an hour between patients to clean the room, new ppe gear each time. So tell me how we will get a vaccine too. I really do not want both at the same time god knows what that cocktail would do to us.

BakewellTarts · 09/06/2020 21:27

No I think some teachers are amazing. DD2s for example. There are a few very loud teacher dementors on MN and it's easy to forget that they do not represent their profession just their own views.

Bellesavage · 09/06/2020 21:29

Well done on those high marks!

Continuing the issue about 'the science', I think people forget that all the modelling is, at somepoint, all based on data that has been collected and inputted by PEOPLE which means most of it will be wrong, the wrong number, in the wrong column, using the wrong scale, done by someone who was trying to homeschool at the same time as inputting new covid case data and spills coffee so the cases jump by 3k, someone doesn't understand the nuances of having had a positive test result and having been tested but no result yet, so they enter all the test data using the same code etc etc

justasking111 · 09/06/2020 21:29

My knickers are disintegrating the elastic coming away from the fabric. 60c wash maybe the cause but I am running awfully short now.
