Even if it means 2 weeks of quarantine Grin
The anti -dementors are here to be reasonable and sensible about everything.

I knew this would happen- looks like 1,700 people died at home, NOT from covid but "unexplained" for other reasons:

"These could be cases - and this is a big assumption - of people whose lives might have been prolonged had they gone to hospital, which is about equal to the number of Covid deaths," he says.

Now its getting to the point where more people are dying due to lockdown than from Covid. Bloody knew this would happen. I notice this hasn't been picked up by the dementors though.....

ilovecardigans · 26/05/2020 20:17

Oops - posted too soon. Post this:

Drivingdownthe101 · 26/05/2020 20:17

I read that AlexisCarringtonColbyDexter. Awful.

AlexisCarringtonColbyDexter · 26/05/2020 20:20

@drivingdownthe101

Its terrible. But only covid deaths matter dont they? urgh 😢

Bloodybridget · 26/05/2020 20:21

Could anyone here who's in Scotland give me an opinion? We live in London and have a holiday cottage in Arisaig booked for a week from 10th July. We can cancel by this Thursday, and lose the hefty deposit, or change the booking to next year. We'd really like to go in July, but don't want to upset locals or fall foul of the authorities.??

mbosnz · 26/05/2020 20:22

@mbosnz when were your flights for? We're booked to go on hol to NZ in Nov but I'm doubting we'll be allowed in so hoping the flights get cancelled

July. Sobs gently into Marlborough Sav' Blanc.

Sadly it seems that the "price" for eradicating covid in New Zealand is that no one is allowed in for X period of time. Not good for tourism and not good for family relations. There is always a "cost".

Actually they're organising a bubble with Oz, and they're one of our biggest markets. Which should help. NZ decided the cost should be economic, rather than human lives. Of course, the NZ economy was in fairly good shape to begin with, and having 'smashed the curve', can now begin to recover so much sooner.

@Delta1

Ah *@HauntedGoatFart* thanks for posting that article. I hadn't seen that and it's cheered me right up. In honour of you I shall make my patronus a farting goat Smile
I am, indeed, deeply honoured. [parp]

@DominaShantotto fx for your DD - I hope she gets the support she needs back in place soonest.

Weedsnseeds1 · 26/05/2020 20:26

I've spent today working and laying a path, so didn't manage my tip trip.
Oh well, evens day tomorrow, so I can take thd big car.

mbosnz · 26/05/2020 20:26

Anyways, that's not in the non-dementor spirit!

Anyone here from Ireland? Wales? Scotland? Hit a Kiwi with your ideas for a UK hollyday.

Institutkarite · 26/05/2020 20:27

A very hesitant 👋 from Portugal

ilovecardigans · 26/05/2020 20:29

@Bloodybridget - best person to ask would be the travel journalist & broadcaster, Simon Calder. He is brilliant - I listen to him often on BBC Radio 5Live. He does a daily Instagram live at 3.30 p.m. to answer travel queries:

Waleshasgonecompletelycrazy · 26/05/2020 20:30

@MinnieMountain thanks for checking in. I’m doing ok. Looking at the trends and articles people are linking to it all is looking so much better, but then I listen to the Welsh Government and it’s like we’re still at square one. It’s hard not to despair. I also think am I reading this all wrong and am just reinforcing my own beliefs? I’m also worried about dd and on a wider scale all children, especially those who really need a safety net.

Despite all this I’m trying to get better. I’m drinking less and trying to focus on the things that are my responsibility. I’ve written to politicians about my concerns and signed petitions, so my next focus is keeping dd happy and making time for me too.

This thread has been more help to me than you can imagine and hopefully we’ll have more freedom soon.

jump2it · 26/05/2020 20:30

@Bananajam SA flights booked here too for half term October. Fingers crossed.

SummerHouse · 26/05/2020 20:31

We are off to Whitby in July. If nothing is open, fine. Although there must be fish and chips obvs. How else will I maintain my veluptuousness?

MinesaPinot · 26/05/2020 20:32

The BBC are insisting on promoting all the negativity in this rather than any positives. It's dreadful.

A point about the London Nightingale. The girlfriend of a colleague of DH volunteered for the Nightingale and had just been sent back to her usual hospital as there is literally nothing to do. They treated about 58 people.

Orangeblossom78 · 26/05/2020 20:33

Checking in, we are off the the National Trust beach nearest to us tomorrow, checked with them it is open and emailed back to say yes and not too busy either so that is good.

Off to pack for an early start. It is one of my favourite places and we are taking the dinghy - so excited.

CruCru · 26/05/2020 20:35

I'm glad that you're all talking about holidays. I've asked my husband if we can go clamping for a couple of days when that is allowed again - however I'm now wondering whether it's going to be incredibly expensive if no one wants to fly. We haven't been away for an abroad summer holiday for years and am now pondering more exotic holidays. Something along the lines of Thailand, Vietnam, Antigua, St Lucia, Bahamas.

Where would you all recommend? I don't want to go anywhere that has had people shrieking "Stay the fuck at home!!!" Ideally I want to go somewhere that can accommodate my primary school aged children.

Even if it doesn't happen (I think we're a bit harder up than we were), I'd like to get some ideas.

rookiemere · 26/05/2020 20:35

Bloodybridget hard to say what Scotland will be like then. i would suppose if people are allowed into holiday homes at that point infection rates would be very low and also there's meant to be a big unveiling on Thursday of a track and trace scheme so I'm not sure what impact that will have.

I'd say visitors would be welcome heaven knows the country needs the money, but I'm not from here originally so I do tend to read the vibes wrong as everyone else thinks the glacial pace of lockdown easing here is very sensible. I think based on the lockdown phases it was thought to be around 10th July that holiday establishments would be open again, but of course that's not guaranteed.

If you could postpone until next year, that might be the safest option.

Orangeblossom78 · 26/05/2020 20:35

We never watch the BBC anymore so as not to frighten the DC, just the Simpsons and You've been framed here.

Bloodybridget · 26/05/2020 20:36

Thanks very much @ilovecardigans, I know of Simon Calder from his columns in the I.

SummerHouse · 26/05/2020 20:36

The graphics on BBC last night were like a spoof. Little models stood on a train pouring covid over each other. Would have been funny if it wasn't a genuine piece of 'news'.

Delta1 · 26/05/2020 20:37

I was ranting to my DH about the BBC today. I'm quite shocked at just how dementory they still are. They must scour the length and breadth of the country to find the worst and rarest stories which make anyone who's remotely suggestible (and all dementors) lose their grip on reality all over again.

Delta1 · 26/05/2020 20:39

Those figures are very sad @AlexisCarringtonColbyDexter I would never have believed the UK would let that happen. Yet here we are.

Willow2017 · 26/05/2020 20:39

I've asked DH to investigate minor roads that cross over where we are less likely to be caught.
There are no police on the main border road on east coast. 😉

Bloodybridget · 26/05/2020 20:40

@rookiemere thanks for your advice, I think probably postponing it would be the best option. The holiday cottage com, Sykes, are being very difficult, they will take the balance owed on Thursday but won't allow us to amend the date for another two weeks. So I don't know if they would then hang on to all the money for another year!
