Even if it means 2 weeks of quarantine Grin
The anti -dementors are here to be reasonable and sensible about everything.

pick send him down the road to me, our fence is at a very unproper angle.

pollyhemlock · 26/05/2020 19:28

Checking in

justasking111 · 26/05/2020 19:30

Not planning anything we live in a beauty spot OH has a boat in the marina, we have beaches, forests, mountains, just want to get out and enjoy them this year.

mbosnz · 26/05/2020 19:32

Phew. I've taken the test. Quiz. Whatever. Anyhoo, good news - I'm not a dementor!

I'm trying to figure out a UK based holiday given our flights home to NZ for the first time since moving here have been summarily cancelled.

I'm thinking that my original thoughts of a long boat, or horse drawn caravan, for Dad, Perimenopausal Mum and two hormonal teenagers after already doing however many weeks in close quarters for lock down - maybe not such a good idea?

TheGreatWave · 26/05/2020 19:37

Still keeping my fingers firmly crossed for the Northumbria coast. I won't fly so no missing out there.

I've decided on the balance of risks that I am more comfortable with my slight chance of dying from covid then the negligible one of dying in a plane crash.

rookiemere · 26/05/2020 19:39

Thanks thegreatwave . We've actually got a house booked in a fairly non touristy area deep in England - been there before so the wonderful booking lady has let us take it without a deposit, so it's just the across the border bit avoiding the main roads so going Kielder way could be a good way of doing it. Hopefully be a moot point by mid July, but I've lost most of my optimism over Scottish lockdown easing now - although hoping to make a garden centre visit on Thursday Wink.

MinesaPinot · 26/05/2020 19:41

OnItCarBonnet Everything in your post is exactly what my DH has been saying right from the start.

fartingsparkles · 26/05/2020 19:42

Hello all!!

I would love to be going on hols. Not been anywhere for last 2 years, for a variety of reasons. I have various cottage holiday home ads pop up on my fb and feel like I need to snooze it so I don't get either jealous or tempted!!

BringPizza · 26/05/2020 19:43

@savehalloween

Have to admit I did daydream earlier about a perfectly timed Winter holiday in December, resulting in a two week quarantine over Christmas (definitely not so I could get out of family obligations Grin)
Now that is a cracking plan, I may need to book some plane tickets this evening!
SockYarn · 26/05/2020 19:44

We lost our holiday last October in the Thomas cook collapse, our Easter self catering break in the Highlands and now our summer holiday - was due to be flying to Orlando in 4 weeks.

SomewhereEast · 26/05/2020 19:45

We've been pretty lucky with getting our money back from our alas cancelled holiday in Portugal so I'm promising myself TWO foreign hols next year. The decadence....

TheGreatWave · 26/05/2020 19:45

I could be wrong of course but I would imagine that they would more likely be at the border on the A68. If one gets stopped they can just mutter something about needing petrol.

Delta1 · 26/05/2020 19:48

Ah @HauntedGoatFart thanks for posting that article. I hadn't seen that and it's cheered me right up. In honour of you I shall make my patronus a farting goat Smile

SomewhereEast · 26/05/2020 19:48

@OnItCarBonnet I wonder what would've happened if the virus had first emerged in a more open liberal human rights-orientated society, rather than an authoritarian state like China. I don't think lockdown would've become the global default response in quite the same way.

BogRollBOGOF · 26/05/2020 19:49

Have tent, will travel anywhere interesting and open!

Plan A would have been Cornwall. That would depend on what's open and social distancing. It's hard enough driving along the A30 at times!

Even a couple of weekends in our county would be nice.

Our summer term dates veer slightly later than average and a couple of years, the DCs and I rocked up to a near empty, basic little site and had an amazing night stargazing at the milky way next to our BBQ/ mini camp fire.
Totally idyllic.

MinnieMountain · 26/05/2020 19:50

I've asked MN to change the title.

How are you feeling this evening @Waleshasgonecompletelycrazy?

Thegreatwave DH is very exciting about outrunning the police - he's talking about driving at night but perhaps that would make us more obvious rather than less so. I've always been totally law abiding but here I am at 50 breaking all sorts of pointless rules .

GreyGardens88 · 26/05/2020 19:51

I wouldn't fancy stripping off on a beach in my current state, I look like a beached whale. I caught sight of myself sitting down in front of the mirror the other day and I was genuinely shocked at the state of my body, I look like Homer Simpson in that episode he tries to reach 300lbs

DominaShantotto · 26/05/2020 19:56

I have emails from dds teacher about organising to get school back up and running next week. I had emailed to ask if, when they were storing soft furnishings away, they could rescue a horribly expensive weighted piece of equipment that’s ours so it didn’t get lost. All her stuff is in place on her table- so I’m daring to believe she’s going back in the keyworkerish bubble with either her amazing teacher, or the other equally amazing teacher with the other half of those kids (this pair are seriously amazingly good).

It’s not ideal, and there’s been a lot of damage done to her progress and mental health, but as a child not in a chosen year group, it’s the best we can get for her.

mon15 · 26/05/2020 19:57

As a travel agent I bloody hope there's some holidays to somewhere this year!

Keepgoing88 · 26/05/2020 20:01

We will be watching and waiting and as soon as we can we will be jetting off somewhere. So where do people think will be the places we can go?

timeforawine · 26/05/2020 20:07

@mbosnz when were your flights for? We're booked to go on hol to NZ in Nov but I'm doubting we'll be allowed in so hoping the flights get cancelled

DominaShantotto · 26/05/2020 20:11

God, I’ve just looked at the general milestones for speech. I knew dd had regressed a lot during lockdown from a lack of social interaction with people not in her family who understand her regardless- but the level she was working at in terms of her speech sounds pre lockdown, which was delayed from her actual year, to where she is now with speech patterns that have come back in - she’s gone from being a couple of years behind to about three. From sounding a little bit immature- to almost toddler like.

Directly because of the length and severity of lockdown. I knew she had regressed and I’d stayed away from trying to work out how far, but I’m going to need to have discussions about provisions for next year soon so I needed to get a better picture in my head.

TheGreatWave · 26/05/2020 20:16

Sadly it seems that the "price" for eradicating covid in New Zealand is that no one is allowed in for X period of time. Not good for tourism and not good for family relations. There is always a "cost".

ilovecardigans · 26/05/2020 20:16

Dearie me the BBC are dementoring HARD with a piece from a London hospital tonight.

Jayzus, weren't they just! What exactly was the point of It other than to keep stoking the fires of Covid-19 fear? Irresponsible and unnecessary.

How about a piece from the all but empty Nightingale hospitals and the many other hospitals where doctors & nurses are all but standing around scratching their arses?

And then to cap it all that ridiculous thread claiming that the UK has the highest daily death rate in the world. Utter pish. I'm tempted to post this on there and run away.
