Even if it means 2 weeks of quarantine Grin
The anti -dementors are here to be reasonable and sensible about everything.

Clamping sounds like fun crucru Grin

rookiemere · 26/05/2020 20:45

Good to know Willow2017 if needed I may check your local insider knowledge nearer the time if that's ok.

JassyRadlett · 26/05/2020 20:48

Can I join in? I seem to irritate people on other threads with facts that don’t align to the party line. Grin

We still have hotels booked in Amsterdam and in Austria in the last week of August (were planning sleeper trains the whole way). For the first time feeling hopeful that one or other might be possible even if we need to drive it.

I’m less hopeful about going to Australia to spend Christmas with my folks, given the noise the govt have been making about not opening the border until 2021. But it might happen - ScoMo might just be playing a good expectation management game, right?

countrygirl99 · 26/05/2020 20:50

I doubt we will get a holiday this year. DH is self employed, his business in seasonal and his busy period is from the start of the school summer holidays to Christmas (no, he isn't an elf). But as soon as I can I will be booking a solo trip to visit DS2 who will be moving to Finland in a few weeks. I haven't seen him since Christmas, he was due to come to us end of March for a suit fitting for his now cancelled wedding.

We went on a murdering spree to a big carpet/furniture store tonight. It was empty apart from us, another couple and all the staff. The staff were all wearing masks and/or gloves. One was wearing a plastic visor face mask thingy, which I thought had to be worn with a face mask too 🤷🏼‍♀️
I was uneasy, purely because I felt as thought the staff were thinking 'UNCLEAN' when we walked in. But also i was confused because I got the feeling the masks were intended to protect the staff but they weren't medical grade ones and didn't fit right to the nose of the wearer. Surely if the idea was for the staff to be protected, the customers should be wearing the masks? I find it all bewildering and worse, my two year old didn't bat an eyelid at it, so he obviously thinks this is normal now.
We're going on another murdering spree tomorrow to a local carpet place, it's a small place and I am fairly confident they will not be wearing masks and I'm also fairly confident I'll be buying the carpet from there as I'll feel much more comfortable in a normal carpet shop!

SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito · 26/05/2020 20:53

None of the staff in our local supermarket are wearing masks. Am off to the Aldi in a neighbouring town tonight so will see if the staff there are bothering. They weren't a couple of weeks ago when I went in.

ilovecardigans · 26/05/2020 20:54

I would tend to agree with @rookiemere. Having scanned over the Scot Govt's Covid-19 framework for decision making, Scotland would need to be in 'Phase 3' of 5 when the virus will be deemed to have been suppressed. With the best will in the world and without the aid of a crystal ball, I think it's highly unlikely that this will happen by 10 July.

If you can change your booking to next year and not lose your deposit, I think that would be your best option @Bloodybridget.

Come to beautiful Northumberland instead. Smile

2468whodoyouappreciate · 26/05/2020 20:55

I've lost my Caribbean Cruise, Las Vegas, and New York trip so far since this pandemic was declared.

I've got Singapore booked for August. They're currently on a circuit breaker but fingers crossed I'll make it away somewhere in 2020!

MaudesMum · 26/05/2020 20:56

A couple of weeks ago we (a group of friends) cancelled a weeks holiday in France in August. Or rather, we cancelled the villa we were renting, and not our individual transport. I'm glad we did, as we all had different attitudes to risk and what we wanted out of our holiday. But it does mean I still have a valid eurostar ticket, and am now wondering what France will be like by August.

duckme · 26/05/2020 21:04

We have booked a couple of places in the UK as a sort of 'back up' if our holiday abroad can't go ahead. We used booking.com as there are loads of places that offer free cancellation and don't require a deposit.

rookiemere
No problem😄

Willow2017 · 26/05/2020 21:16

We were offered washable masks at my supermarket but havent seen one person wearing them yet. They are just cloth ones i dont think they actually fit snuggly over your nose anyway.

rookiemere · 26/05/2020 21:22

We've also booked flights to Jersey- reused Easyjet flights from cancelled holiday- for last week before DS goes back to school in August. Haven't booked accommodation as will wait until much nearer the time, also there's a slight chance that DS's school may open earlier than scheduled date.

MinnieMountain · 26/05/2020 21:40

@Waleshasgonecompletelycrazy you're not alone in your thinking. DM and at least 2 of her street in Cardiff think it's ridiculous too. DM worries about my 28yo DB who has dyspraxia.

@mbosnz I'm a transplanted Welsh person. I can highly recommend north Pembrokeshire for a holiday.

Hola !! Spain September 🙏🙏🙏🙏

Shodan · 26/05/2020 21:41

I've just had a look at the company we booked our cottage with in Wales. They're not taking any bookings for travel before 26th September. I'm taking that to mean that we wouldn't be allowed to travel there by mid July- would that be right do you think?

Bloodybridget · 26/05/2020 21:50

Thanks again, @ilovecardigans, we do love Northumberland and would be very happy to go there!

justasking111 · 26/05/2020 21:56

Airbnb have a limited number, they really pulled the plug @Shodan, booking.com seem to still be operating.

MinnieMountain · 26/05/2020 21:58

Apparently anti-dementors in the thread title will offend people Confused I've asked for "murdering to be added.

I'm desperate to go on my holiday. The plane will be empty at this rate as the Dementors don't want to go.

I bet they will though. You can guarantee when everyone else starts going the biggest frothers will be packing their suitcases very quick,

Arnoldthecat · 26/05/2020 22:04

I have a flight booked and ill be on it if its available. When i return and as long as im not symptomatic, ill be going straight back to work. Thats where ive been since this fiasco started as im a key worker. If its fine for me to continue work as a key worker, its fine for me to have a holiday. I dont give a toss about Government guidance on this matter.

Shodan · 26/05/2020 22:06

@justasking111 Thanks Smile I'd have to have a refund on my deposit really, to be able to book (and go) with someone else.

Ah well. I'll just operate on a wait and see basis I think. I do have holiday insurance, fortunately, for this trip.

RubberDinghyRapids · 26/05/2020 22:10

Woah. Checking in after having to do a mammoth catch-up session.

Got thoroughly dementored at work today, by a line manager no less. Suggesting that our face to face work won't be able to return until next year, and that this is the new normal. Have been quite sad all day since. Still struggling to shake it off to be honest.

Thoroughly disappointed with the BBC's reporting. So much of it has been very unhelpful and poorly phrased that DH and I regularly shout at the radio and I can't watch the news anymore. I don't watch the updates because PP/MH give me the rage.

Ugh. This is just so utterly wank. Angry
