It really is not worth going abroad this year is it?

savehalloween · 26/05/2020 14:54

Bringing a trolley home to keep Grin, not encountered that here yet!

Just wanted to say that the tide has definitely turned. The frothing dementor posts are getting shot down. And I have no idea where all the teacher and parent posts about the 1st June have gone.

In early March I said to my partner that I thought it would the the last normal week we had for a while. I didn't realise how right I was and 11 weeks later, here we are.

But I really have that feeling again, that this is the last week of this kind we will have for a while. I think that guidelines will be lifted in quicker succession once they start moving and all the signs are pointing to that being from June.

The press are clearly being fed more positive stories as the news front page isn't nearly as depressing.

Better times are on the horizon. Hang in there dementors.

Drivingdownthe101 · 26/05/2020 14:56

I do hope you’re right savehalloween!

CupCupGoose · 26/05/2020 14:59

I hope you're right tok @savehalloween

CupCupGoose · 26/05/2020 14:59

Too!

Weedsnseeds1 · 26/05/2020 15:04

This is what I have booked for first week in July.
Provided the flights aren't cancelled, I think I should be able to manage to avoid menacing the locals too much.

Portugal is operating a traffic light system on the beaches green ok, amber means that there's quite a few people and red means that the beach is full.
Maximum of 5 people under 1 umbrella and 3 metres between each umbrella. I can't find any other restrictions.
Restaurants and bars are open with reduced capacity, fromJune 1st capacity will be back to normal.
Face masks are mandatory on public transport and advised in shops.
Small shops are open now and the big shopping centres will open on June 1st
I'd recommend Portugal to anyone looking for a summer holiday, there's plenty of blue flag beaches, wall to wall sunshine, the Portuguese people are extremely friendly and it's a beautiful country.
Sorry Everything East, I'll shut up now

justasking111 · 26/05/2020 15:11

Unless I can get a villa self catering with pool, really what is the point.

Drivingdownthe101 · 26/05/2020 15:41

God I’m bored today. 10 weeks in and we have baked, painted, done multiple crafts, taught the DC cross stitch, played in the paddling pool, made butterfly houses, made a wormery, done junk modelling done school work, cooked, played in the paddling pool, done obstacle courses in the garden, walked, scooted, rode bikes, walked, walked and walked some more, wrote stories, read books, redecorates our bedroom, spent £1000’s online, watched shit loads of TV...

I am so bloody bored!!!

Drivingdownthe101 · 26/05/2020 15:43

Maybe I should kill some time proof reading my posts Grin

Shodan · 26/05/2020 15:45

The boys and I were talking about possibly going abroad this year, but eventually decided the restrictions would just make it uncomfortable. Ditto our original Welsh holiday in July. So we've agreed that we'll postpone any holidays til next year, and put the saved cash in a fund for Disney World in a couple of years.

We are keeping an open mind about a few days camping in England though, not too far from home, but we're going to play that by ear. None of us are avid campers, although I do have all the kit, so we'll see how we feel.

BogRollBOGOF · 26/05/2020 15:49

That's very productive Driving!
I've managed nagging the kids, feeding ravenous hoards, food shopping, running, walking, MMing and getting to level 264 on Gardenscapes.

The most creative thing we did was colour several copies ofDonald Trump's face in with highlighter pens in the name of DS2's pop art work .. except he didn't bother and it was DS1 that actually coloured in just because Trump.

Laundry mountain has decreased due to a lack of sports/ clubs / swimming kits, and less changing of clothes for different functions. Plus summer wear is less bulky. I'm struggling to keep momentum on why DS1's pants drawer is so suspiciously full and the basket so suspiciously devoid...

BarkandCheese · 26/05/2020 15:50

Well bugger it. In a fit of boredom DD and I drove to the next town to walk the dog in their park, it’s no more exciting than any of our parks but I thought it’d be a change of scenery. I popped into Poundland and bought some drinks, came out, stepped over a small wall to get to the grass and promptly fell over and twisted my ankle badly enough to cause me to spend the next five minutes lying on my back making that harrrr-scheee noise you make when you’ve really hurt yourself. Now I’m back home with my foot up covered in tea towel wrapped ice pops. I feel in the spirit of the last forty eight hours I should find a way to blame Dominic Cummings for my ankle woes as he’s everyone’s current favourite scapegoat.

BogRollBOGOF · 26/05/2020 15:52

Keen campers here. I'm hoping we can get a tent further than our garden. Possibly favourable odds, but it does require destinations having somewhere worthy of going to that is open and decently functional

TheGreatWave · 26/05/2020 15:57

One thing I've noticed recently - on Facebook and real life- is people taking shopping trollies home with them so they can use the same one each time

Standard behaviour round my parts. Saves on a taxi. I don't think they take it back though. Hmm

DominaShantotto · 26/05/2020 16:06

DD1 in particular is quite happy telling me "oh well I'm not wearing any pants since we're not going anywhere so there's no point.

School have insisted full freshly washed set of everything every single day. Thankfully own clothes and not uniform at least!

HauntedGoatFart · 26/05/2020 16:11

Via Prof Sikora (and anybody who isn't following him on Twitter... You should! He is a human Patronus):

Those optimistic bastards the WHO are increasing ruling out a second wave based on their own models.

BarkandCheese · 26/05/2020 16:24

What are the dementors going to do if there’s no second wave? I can see the worst of them still isolating in 2022, sitting in a darkened room wearing a tattered mask Miss Havasham style muttering that the VE Day wave is coming soon.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 26/05/2020 16:32

@HauntedGoatFart that tweet made me smile so wide!!!
Wasnt there a news story today saying that it's no longer an epidemic here as there are believed to be less than 140k cases? Wasnt it 170k last week or so?

Nihiloxica · 26/05/2020 16:33

The great thing about a 2nd wave is that it is in the future, so is always about to break if we don't obey.

BogRollBOGOF · 26/05/2020 16:33

Pebbles. Beaches.
That's the real reason they don't want people on beaches, so we don't wash the country away.
It's a good AIBU. Grin

I did wonder earlier if my wedding veil would count as a face coveting Grin

LivinLaVidaLoki · 26/05/2020 16:34

@BarkandCheese
But instead of a dusty wedding dress they'll be in plastic aprons, gloves and face masks 😁😁😁

BarkandCheese · 26/05/2020 16:36

😂

HauntedGoatFart · 26/05/2020 16:40

Yep. There's still an awful lot of people muttering about how their neighbour's failure to achieve ABSOLUTE PURITY means that lockdown will have to go on FOREVER!!!

Now that I think about it, a lot of people seem to have basically turned it into a vengeful god, who will punish us all if even one of us is impure.

Brilliant!

We should all start wearing wedding veils out in public.

It will be a Mumsnet scarf method of identifying each other.
