Anti-dementors' summer holiday in Spain then? Malaga airport's going to be busy Grin

bakingcupcakes · 26/05/2020 11:34

@jourdain11 I think you're right, it's easier to accept a lack of distance if distancing in your house isn't possible. My mum has kept my dad isolated with her since february. They have the news on almost continuously and I think the repeated danger message has well&truly sunk in. They disagree with my decision to send DS to school when it opens. We disagree a lot over the virus which isn't like us.

amicissimma · 26/05/2020 11:36

@LilacTree11
I haven't read the last few pages but as I wanted to catch this thread before it filled up.
I tried to PM you but couldn't so here it is in public:

I'm so sorry you've had such a mauling on Mumsnet. I've written to them asking them to contact you as I think you are really due an explanation and some reassurance. I don't think any of us will ever know just how much good these antidementor threads have done to the mental health of so many of us while we sit at home trying to deal with what's going on, with too little information, disinformation and a certain amount of unpleasantness from people who have drawn different conclusions from what little information there is.
Every person who has posted on these threads has filled a vital role in supporting others and you have posted a lot and should be congratulated on your contribution to so many people's happiness (or, at least, less misery!)

I thank you from the bottom of my heart - you have reduced me to tears, but in a good way. Please, please, please don't allow anyone to stop you from doing so much good. Please keep posting. And if you feel down, give yourself a pat on the back and tell yourself 'I did what I could to make things better.'

Nihiloxica · 26/05/2020 11:37

Boris better let us have people round soon or we'll end up growing the next pandemic out of our kitchen.

Grin

"It seems to have jumped species in a family kitchen. It's a bread mould virus that infected a bee that then stung a human."

TeacupDrama · 26/05/2020 11:38

@lilactree11 @amicissimma well said

Springersrock · 26/05/2020 11:40

Yes, well said! Come back @LilacTree11

I reported that thread, the email from MN said that they’d deleted the thread and banned the user

Springersrock · 26/05/2020 11:42

Here’s a screen shot of it, don’t know if it helps at all

If all you lovely murderers are off to Spain can I join you? A margarita by the pool sounds like heaven, while DD would just think the pool was heaven. We were meant to be going to the US, touring New York, Washington and Philadelphia. DH under normal circumstances travels abroad several times a month for work so he racks up all kinds of air miles and other rewards which we cash in for our holidays. Trying to unpick a holiday booked using multiple rewards is not proving very easy.

Dowser · 26/05/2020 11:46

Congratulations frillyfucks
How awful about the old bag and your cottage
I’m getting into old bagdom myself but I would never do that

Just spoken to My cousin in the vale on the edge of a Barry. Her new granddaughter is 5 weeks old and has t seen her yet
Police helicopters are buzzing over head, police cars everywhere fining people
No takeaways, no fish and chips. They only moved in before Christmas so have been doing it up so had plenty to occupy themselves because as two people who love to get out and about , they’d have gone crazy
We both agreed we were glad we weren’t young with little children anymore
She had four little tinkers and I had three

Nihiloxica · 26/05/2020 11:47

I am seriously thinking of going to Spain in July.

I'm not too worried about having to quarantine when we return given that there is fuck all to do here anyway.

HauntedGoatFart · 26/05/2020 11:55

DH thinks the quarantine will either be rescinded or prove unenforceable.

If our holiday in aug is on I think we will just fucking go. We can both WFH for two weeks on return anyway, the only snag would be DS's school, but frankly I think we'd just send him anyway and pay the fine if caught. It'd be worth it for the break.

Springersrock · 26/05/2020 12:00

We’ve got a week booked in France towards the end of August. I’m hoping the quarantine thing will have been rescinded by then.

We’re driving but wanted to stay somewhere overnight on the way there and back to break up the journey a bit but if the worst comes to the worst, we can do it in one hit.

Dowser · 26/05/2020 12:02

Oh wales, you do sound very down.
I’ve been in that dark place so many times but I have this weird optimistic spark in me that says, k write today off tomorrow might be better.

This craziness has given us all ( too much ) time to shine a spotlight on ourselves and I think people who normally think they’re ok, have realised there’s a very fine line between sanity and craziness

So many have realised what we do to keep ourselves on the right side of the line, mine is going out as much as I like, meeting people, new experiences, theatre, cinema, dining out...all wiped away by the stroke of a pen.

Add to that I can’t even get a much needed osteopath appointment, never mind my hair done and there’s a recipe for disaster.

I don’t have little kids to entertain but I have big kids i miss, Eventhough I’ve seen them often. Just not often enough.
I don’t give a flying fuck about this virus. It doesn’t even scare me. What I contend with in daily life is far more real than a boagey Man out there.
The one in my head is another matter.

ThatLibraryMiss · 26/05/2020 12:13

Replying to several posts over the last two pages...

Orangeblossom78, the links to Times articles you post look really interesting but after the first page they’re behind a paywall.

DrearyWallAntler, further to your arguments that Closing the changing rooms is smart, you only have to look at the number of eBay auctions for BNWT garments to see that people often don’t get round to returning things they’re bought and subsequently found don’t fit or suit. Add in the extra hassle of queuing and returns will be even lower, so better for shops but not for shoppers.

Actually, I googled and the first link that came up was 'penile injuries from vacuum cleaners

I remember my brother, then a medical student, telling me about the lecture he’d been to about, err, strange A&E presentations. “A 62 year old man was helping his wife by doing some cleaning in the nude when his penis accidentally got sucked into the vacuum cleaner nozzle…”

Also, “A 35 year old woman was doing yoga in the nude when she slipped and fell across the coffee table and an apple became lodged in her vagina…”

Does anyone else think socialising and dying sounds more fun than isolating and living?

Hell yes. Sitting miserably at home, alone, is not my idea of living. I really would rather take the tiny, tiny chance of death over that - after all, I reckon I have a significant chance of death or serious injury every time I drive West Yorkshire ↔ London to see my daughter, and I willingly do that several times a year.

Not a reply, but:

I see Michael Gove’s been wheeled out to say that Dominic Cummings did nothing wrong. Oh dear, that’s the kiss of death, isn’t it?

Orangeblossom78 · 26/05/2020 12:19

The Times lets you look at 3 free articles a week, if that helps any. I'm just on there atm as have a free trial of it.

Dowser · 26/05/2020 12:20

Oh jourdain, I’m so sorry to hear what you are going through .
If I ruled the world illnesses like these would be meted out to the evil doing bastards.
I can think of two right now that fit the bill.
I hope by the time you read this the sickness has passed
Big hug to you.

justasking111 · 26/05/2020 12:34

Oh joy BBC Wales government update, bloody Gething, so no good news then, Drakeford is keeping his powder dry again. BAME at higher risk, no shit sherlock. Care home residents at even higher risk (rolls eyes) Drakeford must still be on his allotment talking slugs out of eating his lettuces.

Spudlet · 26/05/2020 12:39

Ah, I see there are many of my people here when it comes to housework. My house is rapidly transforming into a two bedroom bin...!

I've been at a (non-covid) funeral today showing support for an aquaintance through one of my youth groups. They were able to have 10 for the ceremony, and the rest of us lined the drive. We checked with our arms, PE style that we were appropriately spaced. Chatting with an A&E nurse ( surely guarenteed to have a thorough immune system by now). There's an occupation to give a sense of perspective risk assessment. Definitely in the get back to normal and live with it camp.
Apparently cyclists are the new drunks, although her husband has reined back and not exceeded 100 miles in recent months.

I favour buying clothes in person and trying on. I need to see how they fit on me due to my lack of height and bodyshape. I don't particularly need anything anyway, but queuing to browse and not be able to try anything on has zero appeal.

I'm happy to support pubs' beer gardens when that's avaliable Grin

justasking111 · 26/05/2020 12:49

Oh the first minister will tear himself away from his allotment on Friday to let us know his future plans, baited breath here. So until Friday bugger all movement in Wales.

Sadie789 · 26/05/2020 12:49

@LivinLaVidaLoki agree with every word. What the fuck is going on.

BogRollBOGOF · 26/05/2020 12:50

I learned a beautiful word on MN a few years ago "scurryfunge"; an unforseen tidy-up due to having to clean the house for unexpected guests.

The tidiest this house gets is an In-Law level of clean-up which takes a week to accomplish. Most friends and my family just warrant a floors and seating areas clean Grin

Drivingdownthe101 · 26/05/2020 12:52

BogRollBOGOF when my IL’s come (they live abroad so not that often) DH spends days scrubbing window frames and skirting boards. I often point out that he doesn’t so much as squirt bleach down the toilet when my parents come (multiple times a week in normal times). Not sure why the IL’s warrant dust free skirting boards Grin

justasking111 · 26/05/2020 12:53

Do not drive a distance to get your eyes tested Gething is clear on that NO
