'It's simple, isolate and live, or socialise and die!'

Does anyone else think socialising and dying sounds more fun than isolating and living? Grin

We bought a Clarks Gauge years ago - after clarks got rid of the experienced staff we then went to a local independent for years until they kept pushing flimsy pimpsole at the girls when we walk miles so shoes weren't lasting - they didn't seem to grasp not driving meant alot of walking so needed sturdy shoes.

We've bough from one these sites - usually look carfully at the reviews on wynsors but found some good shoes there.
www.wynsors.com/
www.shoesforkids.co.uk/

i was going to try the www.treads-shoes.com/ site next time but we've had shoe shoes go missing after PE since which has put me off.

We do buy clothes online but I do find that more hit and miss than shoes.

Dreary that might all be true from an economics point of view but presumably the rules are being touted as being for Covid-avoidance measures, and so from that point of view I still think they are ridiculous.

It certainly won't tempt me back to the high street, as it completely defeats the point of going in person as opposed to online shopping.

TheGreatWave · 26/05/2020 10:17

I'm really no social animal, but my immediate thought was "at least I would have had fun before I died."

Dowser · 26/05/2020 10:22

Thank you agent and delta. I feel like I’ve been on a mission to check everything is still there.
I should put my photos together in an album and call it the corona collection

Dowser · 26/05/2020 10:25

Orange blossom, I love bath.
I love the West Country full stop.
My friend is in Bath hospital recovering from Covid as we speak.
He has several , serious underlying health conditions and every time we came down , and met up with him, he seemed to be a bit thinner and a bit more poorly..so in my eyes just right for getting something like this.
We went to a big society wedding three years ago in bath.

Dowser · 26/05/2020 10:30

Driving down
When all this started, I decided that if my time was up , I wasn’t going cowering in my bunker existing on rice and beans, I was going while living my life to the full...and well fed
So far, I’m still here.
Have a hectic weekend, Sunday in a forest and Monday driving to the lakes and back, I’m going for a gentler pace today but at least that’s my choice.

littlbrowndog · 26/05/2020 10:39

Jourdain. 💐💐💐💐
I was in Sainsbury’s trying on denim jackets. There was no signs and no body ran up to me and said stop it you killer

I put my kids in gym shoes from Asda. Cheap

My russian friends in Tenerife have had an awful lockdown. When we left them in March, they had hardly any cases but they weren’t allowed out for exercise only food shopping or thE pharmacy
They couldn’t go together either, only one person in the car. Irina has trouble with her eyes, so her husband had to drive and do the shopping.
He’s my osteopath so his Work also ceased.
They usually visit Latvia to see their son for a month in July but are not sure if they will be allowed to travel.
Such a lovely, kind generous man, he’s done so much good for me, I’ve been really worried for them.

MinnieMountain · 26/05/2020 10:45

@Drivingdownthe101 we have a similar situation. Can't visit my DF in Wales. After seeing that FIL and MIL in Spain spent Sunday with their niece and her family and went to the bar, I'm sorely tempted to take DS. It'd be worth the 2 week quarantine when we get home.

Springersrock · 26/05/2020 10:46

Morning all!

Major dementoring here this morning.

The bowls club is re-opening. It’s gonna cause a second wave and PEOPLE WILL DIE

Honestly Hmm, my patience isn’t great at the best of times, it’s wearing extremely thin now.

I’m not normally a madly social person and I can take or leave the pub, but I am desperate to see friends and go out on the piss - I’d even consider joining the bowls club

TeacupDrama · 26/05/2020 10:49

so as of 15th June myself and my daughter can book a flight to Spain so can my parents and we can stay in same hotel or villa then fly back (maybe quarantine) but I can't go and stay in their house in England
this is why rules make no sense
we will probably be going to stay in their house in England in July regardless (call it moving house)

Drivingdownthe101 · 26/05/2020 10:52

Tempted to just pack up and go to IL’s in Spain for the whole summer holidays to be honest! Could even fly my mum over for a week to spend some time with her there!

Nihiloxica · 26/05/2020 10:58

I’d even consider joining the bowls club

Sounds better than taking up golf, which I'm considering

SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito · 26/05/2020 10:58

So theoretically, could my parents & my family (DH, me, 2xdd) book a villa to share together in Spain (or somewhere in Europe) for this summer? But not share a car to the airport in the UK?!

Orangeblossom78 · 26/05/2020 10:59

I like Bath as well but it does tend to get very very crowded in the summer so wondering how this might affect it longer term. Keeping fingers crossed might be some improvements in terms of crowd control - Bristol is planning on pedestrianising it's city centre. I am guessing that people will not want to use e.g. buses or park and ride and hoping they don't all drive in- the parking is hugely expensive though so maybe that will out them off

Oh no starting to sound a bit dementor-y but you know what I mean. the roads have massive backlogs in and out of Bath but living in the centre can walk everywhere and avoid all that anyway, DC can walk to school so won't bother us too much. It has been nice seeing foxes and more birdlife e.g. goldfinches flying in the centre and the flowers have been lovely this spring everywhere I think

Weedsnseeds1 · 26/05/2020 10:59

WishingChair I have had serious concerns about the safety aspects of housework for a long time, I choose to not hoover and live, wherever possible! Grin

heroku · 26/05/2020 11:00

@TeacupDrama exactly. My mum said to me "why don't you come over? If anyone asks I'll just say you're my cleaner" ...!

I do understand the government wants to prioritise getting people back to work and having an income but it is sad that we're expected to prioritise going to B&Q over seeing our families. I don't think any other country is taking this attitude.

Orangeblossom78 · 26/05/2020 11:01

I guess so (Spain) but would need to quarantine on way back? Confused

Orangeblossom78 · 26/05/2020 11:01

So the quarantine would overcome the time together! Maybe that is the plan Smile

Drivingdownthe101 · 26/05/2020 11:02

I reckon if we spent the summer holidays with the IL’s in Spain, by the time we came home they will have probably dropped the quarantine for international arrivals here.

Orangeblossom78 · 26/05/2020 11:02

I always worry I might hoover up our pet cockatiel

frillyfucks · 26/05/2020 11:09

I am so glad I found this thread - after reading all the shit on mumsnet it's sort of reaffirmed my faith in people and common sense.

We "broke" lockdown last week and my mum stayed with us, it was amazing as we've had a baby in lockdown and I was struggling with her and the toddler whilst my husband has been working crazy hours as a farmer.

I'm really lucky that we live on a farm in isolation anyway so distancing hasn't been an issue for us, and no wanker neighbours to report us to the PoPo.

Just waiting for us to be allowed to go to our cottage in Norfolk without the bag old lady dobbing us in - we've already received passive aggressive emails from her that if we "dare" to come down there she will shame us all.

Deleted myself from the local Facebook pages as it seemed to be a riot of morons complaining about anyone who steps foot out of their house.

heroku · 26/05/2020 11:13

Haha weeds I'm the same as you. Hoovers, bleach, brooms - all very dangerous items. I wouldn't want to put myself or my family at risk by getting any of those out the cupboard.

Since lockdown started I have realised I only ever cleaned out of ----shame pride (i.e. panic scrubbing just before people come over - especially the ILs). Boris better let us have people round soon or we'll end up growing the next pandemic out of our kitchen.

Waleshasgonecompletelycrazy · 26/05/2020 11:17

I'm usually pretty house proud, but thanks to lockdown depression I can't be arsed. It's all a mess a few hours later as DH and DD are here so I really have to force myself to get anything done. Plus we're doing crafts and I have boxes and the results of said crafts hanging around. I can't believe we're still not allowed to meet people. Honestly, it's only because I've got DD I'm clinging on.
