I think I finished the last thread by accident...

Agree about the teachers, post above, ex teacher also.

merryhouse · 13/05/2020 12:54

It's on the Scottish Government's facebook page. It starts by saying "people across Scotland have narrated a poem" - the video has subtitles.

trappedsincesundaymorn · 13/05/2020 12:56

I can't find the SNP poem on google. Does someone have a link please

Save yourself thenightsky....don't look, it has Medusa like powers.

Orangeblossom78 · 13/05/2020 12:57

don't worry if ye canny bake Grin

BogRollBOGOF · 13/05/2020 12:57

To all of those accessible to a beach, go forth and ENJOY the fresh salty air for me. Smile
I'll be pleasantly surprised if I make it to the coast under current circumstances. I'm too many hours away to make it worthy of a day trip with no public facilities and shall continue to please myself with the hills on my doorstep for now. If I can get a break to the coast later in the summer, it will be a lovely bonus. (Ideally North Wales because I'm not a Skeg kinda girl Grin)

Actually I am supposed to be in Blackpool in September for a rearranged mass event...

I suspect most sane non-dementors are quietly biding their time for this round of hysteria to burn off. It's not worth engaging.

Flowers to all who are struggling. This time WILL pass and better times will come.

Springersrock · 13/05/2020 12:59

I’ve just been and looked for that video . Reminds me of those bloody awful Nationwide ads

My DD’s high school has posted a survey on Facebook asking year 10 parents what their intentions are regarding sending them back.

It’s about 50/50 - there are an awful lot of “shall I send them in with a body bag” type replies on there though 🙄

Orangeblossom78 · 13/05/2020 13:01

Just backed away slowly form the post about locking down for the next 2 years...

I'm not surprised beaches are quite it's pretty nippy out there. Just been for a walk and our city park is very quiet. A few determined souls with picnic though, often alone with a small child.

Couple of mums pushing toddlers in buggies a bit apart and other such meetings with a thermos! People round here are so well behaved Grin

Orangeblossom78 · 13/05/2020 13:02

quiet!

Springersrock · 13/05/2020 13:02

Sorry, that should have said they’ve posted a link to a survey

They’re not just conducting a Facebook poll Grin

Orangeblossom78 · 13/05/2020 13:03

Whity, remonds me of being a child on a family trip to Filey nearby. Cold and bracing, sea 'haar' (fog)

being rubbed down with a sandy towel. Very bracing!

Orangeblossom78 · 13/05/2020 13:03

Temped to send link to Scottish poem to annoying family there but think best not to perhaps.

Mascotte · 13/05/2020 13:05

The replies are all loving it.. 🤢

Most of the replies on that 2 year lockdown thread seem to be FUCK NO!!!! with the odd "but people are DYYYYING" thrown in for variety. I dunno, I have a tingle that the tide is turning here.

Mascotte · 13/05/2020 13:08

Yes, sorry my "replies" referred to the nauseating poem

thenightsky · 13/05/2020 13:13

Found the poem video! Dear God.

I've also had a quick read of the 'lockdown for 2 years' thread. I've not commented, but was heartened to see a lot of replies along the lines of 'hell no'.

HauntedGoatFart · 13/05/2020 13:15

Remember that when a behaviour is first challenged, it initially intensifies - the extinction burst - before dropping off. Nobody can keep up that intensity of Dementing forever. I

Thanks everyone for the inspiration. I can't get to a beach very easily but I've decided tomorrow lunchtime I'm going to treat myself to a long walk to the harbour. I'm assuming all the lovely little bars and cafes will be shut so I'll take a big fat fancy sandwich and a thermos of wine. Will be the first time I've left the two mile radius of my front door since lockdown. Hurrah! I can't wait.

DesmondTheMoonbear · 13/05/2020 13:21

I'm going to avoid that poem, tempted as I am to suffer through it just to see exactly how twee and patronising it is. I'm having a good day for once and I'd like it to continue. I got up early and went to a small local wholefoods shop. It's sunny, I didn't have to queue, the staff were lovely and I felt like a responsible mature adult choosing from lots of lovely healthy fruit and vegetables. (We'll choose to ignore the bag of jelly snakes I also bought) I came home, prepared my dinner for tonight and I'm going to enjoy my healthy soba noodle salad later(and dream of a McDonalds double cheeseburger and fries) then watch the NT production of Antony and Cleopatra(for Ralph Fiennes). I might grudgingly do sone housework and washing too.

My mood will likely crash tomorrow so I'll enjoy this while I can. Lockdown is showing me just how important little things like going to the shops regularly and pottering around town, are to maintaining my mental health and managing my autism, so I get really pissed off when I see others scoffing at people longing to meet their friends for a Costa. The little things matter. They keep people sane and happy.

TinRoofRusty · 13/05/2020 13:28

It's a lovely day here in Scotland, executioners! I'm just having some lunch before a protracted killing spree walk. Then we're having a Chinese takeaway, so this is actually to bid you all farewell as we will all drop dead after eating a takeaway we don't need. But we will die happy.

Mascotte · 13/05/2020 13:28

@DesmondTheMoonbear that sounds a great day 😊

Does anyone know any teachers IRL? Is this the general level of negativity for most teachers or just a MN blip? I’m seriously worried 😟

fartingsparkles · 13/05/2020 13:31

Heartening to see a little sense working through the 2 years lockdown thread. My instant reaction was "fuck right off and keep going!"

I am refusing to engage at all (for my own sanity). I have had a lovely chat with my ds about what's happening, and am so happy that he is able to see sense in a gradual, incremental approach and to realise that yes, things might be a bit different for a while, but it's not realistic to lockdown forever/until there's a vaccine. I am always very proud of him but realising that he has got a decent critical thinking brain under the ever increasing hair is great.

His school have sent a letter saying they are making plans for returning students too. They have been sensible and although work is available, they are happy if we work with our own stuff (easier for us with an iffy printer). They also always point out that mental and emotional wellbeing is the most important thing, and trust parents to do what's best.

Cattermole · 13/05/2020 13:32

Well, I'm off to murder my mum in half an hour. She might get a paper she doesn't need, either, and possibly a cake. Bugger for cream cakes, my old dear. Hope you enjoy your day @DesmondTheMoonbear.

DesmondTheMoonbear · 13/05/2020 13:34

I'm enjoying it very much so far, Mascotte. I enjoyed the walk home, though unfortunately I met very few people on my journey. I'll take the dogs for another walk along the canal later, in the hope of bumping off at least a few Grannies/walkers. Got to try to keep my stats up. I'm aiming for at least five a day. Then I'm making Eton Mess as a reward.

GroEggAndHam · 13/05/2020 13:34

Whoosh!!!! Flying back in on my broomstick, back from a solid two hours out murdering.

I feel SO much better. Saw my mum in the park for the first time since this shitstorm (usually see her twice a week) and we fed the ducks with DD (ducks had seeds and frozen peas before anyone accuses me of murdering ducks with wedges of sliced white bread.... that's a step too far!). Done my step count for the day, and listened to the Mighty Boosh for some light relief. Looked like a mad woman when I burst out laughing at Bob Fossil "Your logic makes me feel like a dick!".... seemed most appropriate at the moment.
