I think I finished the last thread by accident...

On another post, this thread has been called “incredibly nasty.”

😂

justasking111 · 13/05/2020 14:47

Keeping a really low profile neighbours either side, one lot teachers retired the others nhs retired, have gone up like a roman candle today on rumours that index linked pensions may be a thing of the past. Well we self employed had to set up our own pensions whereas neighbours either side did not. One couple has two trips to down under Australia business class twice a year, the other couple two trips to USA a year business class.

They are very worried about this, we just nod sympathetically trying to recall our three break to Europe for 40th a few years ago.

justasking111 · 13/05/2020 14:49

Nasty thread, well best put it on ignore then tell them.

justasking111 · 13/05/2020 14:49

I want a garden centre like this Grin

iamapixie · 13/05/2020 14:50

BirdieFriend
Wow!

BirdieFriendReturns · 13/05/2020 14:52

The person had trawled through my posts for “ammunition” and then called me a GF and said I seemed to enjoy posting on “those nasty little Dementor posts.”

Dementors gonna hate!

Orangeblossom78 · 13/05/2020 14:52

Do some people not get our black humour Grin shame for them

RumbaswithPumbaas · 13/05/2020 14:53

Nasty? One little beacon of common sense in the midst of soul destroying hysteria and we’re not even allowed that? Especially cruel when you can’t even meet up with sensible folk to vent in real life... this thread is therapy Grin

AlaskaThunderfuckHiiiiiiiii · 13/05/2020 14:54

@BirdieFriendReturns just had a look over that thread, ridiculous some of replies. So basically they are allowed to doom monger and make people feel like crap but we aren’t allowed a thread for sensible, optimistic And more than likely REALISTIC discussion?

OutwardBound2016 · 13/05/2020 14:54

Not half as nasty as the posters who have been telling people that we are all going to DIE and fucking up people’s already fragile mental health.....probably the same people who jumped on the ‘be kind’ bandwagon.

I wait to see where they all disappear to when they loose their jobs, incomes and homes and it’s their DC who are are cowering in a corner because they have been scared to go out for a year/two/three.

Orangeblossom78 · 13/05/2020 14:55

iamapixie I did kind of post to well, be positive but also to gauge if anyone would respond. No-one wants positivity it seems! (in certain parts of the site) I wondered if things had maybe moved on a bit.

Orangeblossom78 · 13/05/2020 14:56

Just ignore the silliness it isn't worth it. Anyone can see it's a funny thread, if people are too daft to get it forget them...

Iwalkinmyclothing · 13/05/2020 14:56

Some posters thread I have been trading but certainly don't qualify to contribute to think there is an organised conspiracy to post in opposition to their PoV. Paranoia is never a good look, but the arrogance of assuming that when a significant number of people disagree with and are prepared to argue with you that it must be some sort of organised sock puppetry rather than just a lot of people thinking you are wrong is hilarious.

Glad you liked the photo GroEggAndHam :)

AlaskaThunderfuckHiiiiiiiii · 13/05/2020 14:58

One of the comments on that thread made me laugh though, basically said this isn’t lockdown it’s the new normal (sick of that bloody phrase) and just get used to it! So loads of shops, bars, restaurants, hairdressers closed is the new normal? No thanks I’m out

justasking111 · 13/05/2020 14:59

They are all barking, people are going to continue to die of course I recognise that awful truth. People I love have died from heart attacks, brain tumours, kidney cancer, I may die from something. But we have to crack on anyway.

Orangeblossom78 · 13/05/2020 15:03

You know how we talked about the dramatic scary ads here like this

www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/news/uk/stay-at-home-or-people-will-die-government-launches-new-coronavirus-ad-blitz-39097342.html

well it is interesting to see other countries ads...

In Asia more funny ones about people dancing etc...

www.aljazeera.com/news/2020/03/viral-asia-takes-coronavirus-songs-dances-200311063529703.html

www.bbc.co.uk/news/av/world-asia-51764846/coronavirus-vietnam-s-handwashing-song-goes-global

and Malaysia telling people to 'be a chicken' Grin

www.adsoftheworld.com/media/digital/bbdo_malaysia_be_a_chicken
Might have led to less fearfulness in those countries perhaps (while giving sensible advice)

DesmondTheMoonbear · 13/05/2020 15:03

Willow2017 I agree totally. They are hypocrites.

I understand people being anxious and concerned. I understand the shielding group being especially worried, and I know what it is like to live with severe anxiety because I suffered from it for years and still struggle with it, but people need to get a sense of perspective and the Doommongers ought to be ashamed of themselves for spreading fear and twisting the facts.

Orangeblossom78 · 13/05/2020 15:05

I am not sure why the chicken is on the toilet and on his phone at the same time though, doesn't seem very hygienic.

The message seems to be if you act like a scaredy 'chicken' staying home you can avoid the virus.

heroku · 13/05/2020 15:06

So loads of shops, bars, restaurants, hairdressers closed is the new normal? No thanks I’m out

It's obviously bonkers. Loads of places (e.g. Hong Kong) have already reopened all those things so why can't we?

I've lived in a country with very high rates of HIV (South Africa) and you just adapt. For example in nail bars everyone is very careful to sanitise everything and people don't do anything (e.g. cutting cuticles) that might involve blood. We may have to make some pragmatic changes that stick around longer term but you don't stop civilisation just because there's a chance you might get ill.

Orangeblossom78 · 13/05/2020 15:06

Well we said tat the start some people enjoy to bring others down, it's just an example of that isn't it.

justasking111 · 13/05/2020 15:07

Our sealed bins are covered in dog poop bags was a rant on fb this morning, well photograph, owner, dog and tell them you are sharing on social media. Deathly silence

Re relaxing of rules huge numbers now dying in China and Korea deaths rocketed. Checked world figures, rubbish I replied prove it. Deathly silence.

I am waving my wand at the dementors today Wink

RumbaswithPumbaas · 13/05/2020 15:08

I’d just like to see a shift in behaviour, to people being sensible and considering ways that (in the unlikely event) they had covid and were shedding it, they could prevent themselves passing it on, rather than seeing everyone else as a threat to their own precious existence. It takes effort because by default we would all put ourselves first, but our collective efforts would be so much better.

AlaskaThunderfuckHiiiiiiiii · 13/05/2020 15:08

@heroku exactly! I’m confused over how you can have cleaners etc come to your house but you can’t have a hairdresser come to your house or go to a salon🤔 first to open in other European countries but last here? The one I go to is a small salon one in one out anyway

GroEggAndHam · 13/05/2020 15:11

I think..... on reflection.... that I actually have more sympathy for the teachers than previously expressed. I think there should have been clear expectations from the Govt of what opening the schools would look like (staffing/rooms/class size/cleaning etc etc). These should have been agreed with unions and LAs, and universal. The lack of communication and clear guidance is doing them no favours.

But I cannot agree with scaremongering or any professional using social media to air their views. It's encouraging panic and so unhelpful.

psychomath · 13/05/2020 15:12

Most secondary schools already have disposable aprons and gloves available for science lessons Confused I actually nabbed a box of gloves right before we shut (that would otherwise have spent months sitting in a cupboard unused), just in case. We would obviously need more if all staff are going to be wearing them all the time, but they're very cheap! Like a few quid for a box of 100.

Fabric face masks wouldn't be hard to organise either. The only things that would be trickier would be visors or full body coverings like surgical gowns, as they're more expensive and many schools would need financial support to pay for them (but still not a huge amount in the grand scheme of school budgets).

I agree that people need to be more specific about what they're asking for, but it surely can't be that hard for LAs to sort out basic PPE for the staff who want it, or even for schools themselves to do it if the bureaucracies can't get their act together. Not sure why this seems to have become a massive stumbling block all of a sudden!
