I think I finished the last thread by accident...

buffyp I saw that and wondered what on Earth the man was thinking of.

Firstly, it was drummed into us VERY HARD that our social media should be completely locked down and invisible to all but our close friends, and that this should not include either students current or past nor their parents unless they were actually long-term friends and trusted not to run their mouths.

Secondly, if he's posting as Joe Bloggs Headteacher of Littleschool he's effectively posting as the Head of Littleschool so what he's saying is official and therefore should be said on the school's own Facebook/Twitter/website.

Thirdly, and related to both, if one of my colleagues had posted anything like that even to their locked-down, readable-only-by-friends social media I would have expected them to be in the Head's office by halfway through P1 the next morning. I hope the Governors take a similarly dim view of this twerp.

Fourthly, if I were the OP I'd be looking for a new school for my child(ren) as I would not want their education to be overseen by a scientifically-illiterate, inappropriate, unprofessional nitwit who has demonstrated a total inability to assess risk.

With the illicit takeaways - we've got a guy near us who had just opened a burger shop doing the most utterly amazing burgers - huge wedges of bacon, home made burger, hand baked brooch buns... obviously lockdown killed the business and he's given up the shop.

He's now operating a business model where he will do collection of orders booked into a randomly determined carpark (communicated via private message) each night dropping your meal through your open car passenger window. He's diversified into tomato plant supply as well - because obviously there's nothing remotely dodgy looking about dropping suspiciously spikily leaved plants through car windows en masse every night in different car parks.

The idea of it just cracks me up - the burgers are bloody epic though.

Spain’s oldest woman, 113-year-old Maria Branyas, beats coronavirus

Just had very mild symptoms

Orangeblossom78 · 13/05/2020 10:57

Yeah like a sneaky drug pick up or something (burgers!) made me smile

DominaShantotto · 13/05/2020 10:57

I hope the Governors take a similarly dim view of this twerp.

To be honest - most governing bodies seem to just be rubber stamping organisations for whatever the Head and Chair get up to and decide in their private little huddles. I'm one - I know that whatever I say will be disregarded or commented that I'm pursuing "personal causes inappropriately" if I raise mental health concerns - they listen to the Head, the Chair, the owners of penises and one buddy of the head. The others, particularly parent governors are just there to lend an aura of legitimacy to proceedings. I'm toying with resigning before this meeting - but at the moment the most I can actually do to express how badly I feel this has been handled, is to remain silent rather than being seen to nod (or move my head at all). I may stick a cardboard cutout in front of my webcam instead.

Driving
Its fine because all of the people who have worked continuously throughout this shitstorm without ppe are ensuring they still have food deliveries, shops open, food produced, utilities, transport, bins collected, health care etc etc so they can stay at home and boast about not leaving thier house for 8 weeks and how marvelous it is.

Have read several threads this morning and not posted on one as i would get deleted crucified first
How long do they think this can go on for? How on earth have other countries managed to get kids back to school yet ours wont even discuss it?
Smile i have a McDs next to my work. If it opens for drive through my kids will suddenly desperately want to go out with me! Wonder when they close the border if they will be confiscating half cold MsDs🤣🤣

bigbananafeet12 · 13/05/2020 11:00

I've just allowed myself to get really wound up on a thread where teachers are waging a campaign to petrify the nations parents so nobody sends their dc back to school. It's so reckless and irresponsible - what can be done?

AlaskaThunderfuckHiiiiiiiii · 13/05/2020 11:00

@Orangeblossom78 people aren’t interested in that though are they, it doesn’t fit with the hysteria

GoldenOmber · 13/05/2020 11:00

Yeah that’s helped thanks Scottish Government. Read a book! Bake a cake! Go for a jog! Watch your children get angrier and lonelier and more stressed! Oh wait, that wasn’t on the list...

I am feeling pretty dementoring myself today. I do appreciate governments at least trying to address the mental health impacts of this, but in the same way as managing WFH or my children’s mental health, I feel ‘tips’ are not really cutting it. I just want to know when my eldest will get to interact with her friends again. Or any children her own age. Fucking hell put them in hazmat suits if it’ll make the plague-warriors feel happier about it, but at least give me some light at the end of the tunnel for them.

DominaShantotto · 13/05/2020 11:02

@bigbananafeet12 the only way I'm coping with threads at the moment is to sense-plop. I post my contribution backing up the people on the thread making common sense and then hide it - because the dementors just come on and continue shouting and shouting and shouting and not listening and you end up getting drawn into a spiral of doom.

I have half of MN hidden at the moment, about 50% of my FB friends on snooze (another 3 this morning) - the concept of people being able to make informed choices sending their own kids back is just impossible for them to comprehend.

AlaskaThunderfuckHiiiiiiiii · 13/05/2020 11:03

I didn’t know you could cherry pick when you did your job or not? Great I’ll phone my senior nurse tomorrow and tell her I won’t be in for the foreseeable until it’s ‘safe’ considering I’m at higher risk of getting it at work then teachers are

AnxiousElephant77 · 13/05/2020 11:07

I just still fail to understand the bigger picture. Stay off until September, when probably not much will have changed? Stay off until there's a vaccine that might never come?

bigbananafeet12 · 13/05/2020 11:10

Thanks @DominaShantotto this whole teacher thing is just finishing me off. The negativity is beyond belief. It's going to absolutely destroy the country.

TheGreatWave · 13/05/2020 11:14

Dom The whole covid-19 testing process is like an illicit drug drop. Mobile phone calls, things being shoved through a cracked car window.

GoldenOmber · 13/05/2020 11:14

See I would absolutely accept “no schools back until we have the test and trace system up and running”, sounds reasonable, but isn’t that the plan anyway?

DominaShantotto · 13/05/2020 11:16

@bigbananafeet12 I've got through 5 pages of that - to the point where the parents of kids whose mental health are being blamed for their kids struggling and I'm sickened.

DD2 can't sleep at night because "her brain won't let her as it's too full of sad and missing her friends". Obviously my fault

Orangeblossom78 · 13/05/2020 11:21

Orangeblossom78 people aren’t interested in that though are they, it doesn’t fit with the hysteria

yeah I know dementors hate mild cases esp in oldest person in the world! Smile

You know I posted about 'clapping related injuries' well just been reading about how they have had in increase in cardiac cases due to 'sudden increase in exercise' and also cycling injuries.

can people just not be sensible Grin

justasking111 · 13/05/2020 11:21

Dementors setting their sights on RAF pilots movements

Orangeblossom78 · 13/05/2020 11:22

Because I'm so sensible myself of course (not) no increase in alcohol related issues at all (hmm)

OutwardBound2016 · 13/05/2020 11:31

I can’t even look at the teacher threads, in an ideal world I think these cretins need their forum taken away and in due course their jobs!

bigbananafeet12 · 13/05/2020 11:33

@DominaShantotto I really feel for you. Mine are teens so understand better but they’re becoming more withdrawn and loosing motivation. Ds was really into a sport prior to this obsessively trained 3 times a week, now we’re having to practically force him. All the negativity from teachers makes me fear for them so much. I can see them trying to block a return to school until there’s a vaccination😡

psychomath · 13/05/2020 11:37

Which is demonstrated here by the fact that there have been no school outbreaks or as far as I know teacher deaths, despite them working throughout with the highest risk kids (those of frontline NHS staff

I don't remember who said this but nust wanted to correct it quickly - I think I read that 75 teachers have died so far (which doesn't necessarily mean they contracted the virus at work of course).

On the slower pace of life thing, this one really pisses me off, because (as I moaned about on another thread a while ago) I had ALREADY made significant changes to my life to give me a better work/life balance. I took a pay cut to about 60% of what I could be earning with my qualifications so that I could work normal full time hours and have school holidays as proper holidays, instead of spending them stressing about lesson planning and crying at the thought of going back to work. I genuinely thought so often about how lucky I was to be able to spend time in coffee shops, seeing friends, taking beach trips and so on without a sense of guilt and panic that I wasn't working. And now I can't do those things, and the people who were miserable before but made so little effort to change their lives that a global pandemic feels like an improvement are patronisingly spouting bollocks about the virtues of 'slowing down' and enjoying myself. It's infuriating!

To be fair though, I've seen a lot less of that around lately than I did in the first few weeks. I think people are starting to realise that doing nothing for days on end isn't all it's cracked up to be.

Pinkflipflop85 · 13/05/2020 11:38

I'm angry with some of the teachers on her and on social media because their views are not representative of the majority of teachers. Great way to encourage others to despise us as a profession even more!

GoatyGoatyMingeMinge · 13/05/2020 11:42

It's 11.30 and the beaches here still aren't full from what our local media are carefully not saying. I dunno, I can't help but thinking "this is the way the world will end - not with a bang, but with a whimper": the dementors whip up a panic, and then...nothing happens. And that's my Mystic Meg prediction tbh, they will whip up hysteria about the next thing and the next thing and as the things they predict don't happen they fade away a little bit more every time.....
