@Ohhgreat well done! Day off today but might go for a bike ride with the children.

I need some shorts but a bit anxious about going out in short Lycra, long is bad enough! Grin

banjaxxed · 30/05/2020 12:03

I just did my W4 R1

Managed it, well chuffed covered 3.5Km in the time.

I use Strava but it confuses me because it doesn't show the pace as km/hr it's showing it as average minutes/km which is the walking and running average
Looking at the graph and converting though I think my running about 8-9km/hr which I am happy with
Grin

I've been doing C25K with my ds (and Michael Johnson!) and today we did week 2 run 3, covering 3.6km. I'm really proud of him. I have been running for years and my dh started this year but since lockdown we were both surprised at how unmotivated our kids are to do anything. The first few runs with ds were like torture, but today he skipped round and even took on a few hills. I've told him once he can run for 6 minutes I will enter him for a virtual 1km race with a proper medal.

You're all doing brilliantly, well done 👍

thenewaveragebear1983 · 30/05/2020 16:15

@banjaxxed you can change your settings on strava to show speed in km/hr rather than pace (minutes per km).

banjaxxed · 31/05/2020 00:28

Might need help there Grin

KenAdams · 31/05/2020 01:47

Anyone not started yet? I'd like to start this week but would be helpful to have a "buddy".

SudokuBook · 31/05/2020 12:57

I got up at 7 yesterday to do week 5 run 3. Was very slow and didn’t fully manage it. Stopped for a few seconds a few times. The jump from 8 to 20 minutes was just too much. I’ll repeat the week this week.

EasternDailyStress · 31/05/2020 13:14

I'm psyching myself up to do Week 7, Run 1 today. The last run was 25 minutes, which I never thought I'd be capable of at Week 1. Or even last week Grin. But I struggle to keep my brain occupied, I seem to be constantly clock-watching (I'm running on a treadmill).

So although my body and breathing seem to be capable, I'm just a bit bored.

Anyone have any tips please?

GuyFawkesDay · 31/05/2020 17:06

You need distracting, good music or listen to a podcast?

OhTheseSummerNiiiiights · 31/05/2020 20:27

Can you get outdoors? I have to have my music on too.

Sudoku the heat makes it really hard. I have heard some people doing W6 before W5 because it still has jumps too.

Ohhgreat · 31/05/2020 22:08

I'm a definite convert to podcasts while running - I listen to discussion type ones, then when it gets hard the last few minutes switch to loud rock music!
Final run of week 4 done, actually felt I had a little something left at the end so that bodes well for week 5. Hoping it cools off a little bit though

GuyFawkesDay · 01/06/2020 08:02

Week 7 done. I ran for 30 minutes today because i felt great on the last stretch (it's downhill so that helps 🤣) 4.2km in 30 minutes.....not fast but I am getting quicker per km with each run.

W6R3 I was 8:04 minutes/km average

Today 7:30 minutes/km average

If I can now haul my arse into dieting I will get quicker again not dragging 12 stone round.

OhTheseSummerNiiiiights · 02/06/2020 11:35

I missed a day because it was so hot- back on track, wk7 r2 done!

Well done to everyone so far 🏃🏾‍♀️

Technically I shouldn't be on this thread but if I'm perfectly honest I wanted to shamelessly boast talk about my 12 yr old who has taken it upon himself to start running. He's probably a few lbs heavier than he 'should' be and although enjoys sports at school as well as cycling - he hasn't done a great deal since lockdown.

He is currently on w5 r1 and I am so proud of him. He's come a long way since the first run. I've accompanied him on a few of the runs for support. I'm a keen runner myself and have been for the past 10 years or so. I can't wait to be able to do park runs with him Smile

You're all doing amazingly and I am in awe of each and every one of you. IMO the most difficult part is the decision to give running a try in the first place. Certainly doesn't come easy to most of us.

SudokuBook · 02/06/2020 13:09

I am walking this week as my knee is a bit niggly. Not sore as such but it feels like my other knee did when it was healing after I tore my cruciate ligament. Just done a 5 mile walk, it’s warm out there! Back to running next week, repeating week 5.

banjaxxed · 02/06/2020 17:24

W4 R2 done jeez that was hard it's too hot!!!

Need to try and do morning it's much easier

Horehound · 02/06/2020 18:56

Well done @banjaxxed I am now two runs behind you cause I've just been so tired. I feel really down.
I'm going to do it tonight but I feel like shit, I'm exhausted, cried most of the day and bit drunk enough so I assume I'm going to struggle.

Wish me luck...

Ohhgreat · 02/06/2020 19:24

@thefamousfiveplusone well done to your son! Proper impressed at his motivation
So for the first time ever I was able to do my run first thing in the morning. And I definitely prefer it! Just need to work out how I carry it on... anyway week 5 run 1 done, run 3 is looming....

banjaxxed · 02/06/2020 20:00

@Horehound is everything ok? Just one of those days? You will catch me up, I might do an extra this week to build me up to week 5 and delay that a bit x

Horehound · 02/06/2020 20:18

@banjaxxed thanks for asking. I just feel down. Baby is teething and has woken a lot in the nights for the past week and then today when I hope he will nap two hours he has managed 30mins. And obviously on lockdown I can't get any help and I just feel alone. Husband was wfh on and off but is now back in full time so I guess I'm just getting used to that again too. I'm just tired and sad. Hopefully feel better tomorrow!

I managed the run so at least that's something. Do feel quite weak now though cause haven't eaten or drunk much today so need to go sort that.
Well done on your runs though, you're doing fab.
Same to you @Ohhgreat and maybe I will try and do a morning run at the weekend. So far I have only done it on the treadmill but I have a feeling on the road will be harder!

Well done to your son too @thefamousfiveplusone!

DinosApple · 02/06/2020 20:56

I did Wk 6 R 2 with DD1 earlier today after work. It was so hot so we headed into the woods as quickly as we could run.

Slow going, but done! Managed to speed up for the last minute which made me feel better.

Hope it went ok Horehound, some days are hard Flowers.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 02/06/2020 21:26

Did week 3 run 1 today with ds, he found it hard to do 3 minutes, but when I look at him when he's struggling it's far more to do with his running posture than his actual running. Some days he seems to be all hunched up and sort of lolloping rather than running straight. Proud of him though, it was hot today and I'm quite glad it's going to cool off a bit from tomorrow.

Vagndidit · 02/06/2020 22:26

W6 R2 foolishly completed in the afternoon heat. Have to say, I really struggled with the second 10 minutes of this one. Kinda bricking it about R3 for this week---25 minutes. Eek 😱 Hopefully the temp will cool off a bit.

banjaxxed · 02/06/2020 22:34

@Vagndidit but isn't there a 20 min run in w5 that you have done? 10'mins in this heat, you deserve a medal.

The heat really killed me.

@horehand we all have horrid days especially now and I don't have a baby. If you can get off the treadmill and outside( I know that might not be possible) I think you should.- the fresh air etc might feel like a bit of a break Thanks

BobbinThreadbare123 · 03/06/2020 07:58

Week 4 Run 3 done - had to ease off thanks to hurting myself. I'm a week behind where I ought to be but better not to be in pain! I need to time my runs very carefully - got to run on an empty stomach or I feel horrible! Running after my tea is not nice.
