Looking for shoulders to lean on!

@Horehound that's great! I've no idea what speed I'm doing as no way to measure it but my focus is on not stopping - I figure I can build up speed & distance later.

mooching · 23/05/2020 10:09

@horehound thank you for the welcome.

How do you know your speed? Are you on a running machine? I suspect I am much slower! I do have a running machine but it is so lovely out there I've been getting out and about, running through bright rape seed fields, just gorgeous.

I like having jo whiley as my voice over, I am early forties so have been listening to her for years.

Horehound · 23/05/2020 10:14

@mooching yeh I'm doing it in a treadmill at the moment but I will venture outside one day.
I can't really at the moment as I have a baby to look after so it's easier to do it when I'm in the house. It's also been a blooming gale here for two days! Crazy windy
And yes on treadmill for week two I was reaching about 3k but yesterday for week 3 It had a distance of just over 2k

mooching · 23/05/2020 10:25

@Horehound thanks for the clarification, I am still doing the distance and having a longer walk/cool down at the end.

I am embarrassed to be out in public running as I am overweight but fortunately now that I am over forty I no longer really care!

Congratulations on the baby, enjoy they grow up fast!

ScottyDottyDooDah · 23/05/2020 10:30

I've just finished week 7 and am clocking up 2.5k in the 25 mins, so definitely won't be hitting 5k in 30 mins anytime soon! Guess I'll have to be happy with being able to plod for 30 mins straight once I get to the end. It's still more than I thought I was ever capable of! Am not even sure I want to improve my distance/time ratio. I like my plodding!

banjaxxed · 23/05/2020 10:45

I downloaded Strava to track the pace/distance etc

DinosApple · 23/05/2020 10:47

I've just done Wk 4 R 3, and I'm so pleased it's done!
It was tough, but I pushed myself on the last minute to speed up. I'm very much a plodder so running against the wind made me even slower.

I love reading the comments from people further along, it's so encouraging. Not looking forward to Wk5 though, but I'll try to persuade whippet like DD1 to come along for motivation!

I'm still using NHS Laura from years ago so will check out some other versions.

GuyFawkesDay · 23/05/2020 11:11

W6R2 rudely interrupted by the kids trying to play Spotify through their echo dots and knackering my music 😆

Covered 4.2km today. And that was with walking trying to ring home on the first run to get the kids off the ruddy Spotify 🤣🤣🤣

Run pace is 8m/km so it's not fast but I'll get there!!

OhTheseSummerNiiiiights · 23/05/2020 11:31

Hello everyone! It’s so nice to hear all the success stories!

Run day but it’s pouring and really windy. Was looking forward to getting out so have my trainers by the door in case of a lull.

SluggishSnail · 23/05/2020 11:39

Can I join in?
It's great to hear how well everyone's doing.

I did week 5, run 2 yesterday. Still fairly hideous, but improving slightly. The only thing is that the last few runs have given me fairly bad headaches which come on during the run and last a day or so.

Not sure what to do about that (I already drink water).

Musicalmistress · 23/05/2020 12:17

@mooching I'm just under 21stone, early 40s & would never have been seen dead running in public before and just finished week 5. Admittedly I still run early in the morning but before I would've stopped as soon as anyone crosses my path - no more! In fact I was out for a walk with my OH today (a ridiculously fit cyclist!) & was feeling all good about myself so had a wee jog up a hill & OH said 'You look really comfortable running these days' I felt that was a bigger measure of my mindset than my body lol

GuyFawkesDay · 23/05/2020 12:58

@SluggishSnail maybe you need more like a lucozade sport with some salts, sugar and electrolyte in? Maybe have some an hour before you go out?

Takeittotheboss · 23/05/2020 14:19

Hi everyone, I am on Wk9r1 tomorrow, can't really believe it!🙄
I'm mid fifties, very sedentary lifestyle and about 4 stone overweight. It's been a revelation to me although like pp I am definitely plodding!

firstimemamma · 23/05/2020 14:26

I've just finished week 1. Well done to all. Smile

FerreroRocherAreAmazing · 24/05/2020 12:58

Hi everyone!

I was in the middle of completing w4 run 3 when I tripped and sprained my ankle over a tree root! I'm so annoyed at myself as I was so close to finishing wk4. I hobbled home and now resting it and hopefully It wont be a bad one!
Well done to everyone doing their runs!!
Xxxx

SudokuBook · 24/05/2020 13:09

Just done week 4. I really want proper running shoes but I don’t want to risk buying online.

SudokuBook · 24/05/2020 13:14

I have Sanjeev Kohli as my voiceover, Scottish and love Navid and Still Game!

chunkyrun · 24/05/2020 13:48

Finished w5r3 feeling like superwoman

OhTheseSummerNiiiiights · 24/05/2020 20:18

Hello everyone! Glad it's going so well for most folk- ferrerro I'm sorry to hear about your ankle :(

Today I did Wk 6 R2 and felt like it was too short Shock

Forkrightorf · 25/05/2020 04:30

@OhTheseSummerNiiiiights that's it, you've officially crossed to the dark side Grin
@FerreroRocherAreAmazing sorry about your ankle, hope it heals fast.
Started week 5 yesterday, I've got the fear about the looming 20 minutes.

Horehound · 25/05/2020 07:17

I should have run yesterday but didn't. Just too tired with some sleepless nights with the baby. Still feel really tired but I'm going to try for today

GuyFawkesDay · 25/05/2020 10:34

W6R3 done. Hot. Really bloody hot.

mooching · 25/05/2020 10:41

@FerreroRocherAreAmazing how is your ankle?

I had a bad weekend and do not run yesterday but have had a lovely run this morning which means I start week 4 on Wednesday. Hooray!

Does anyone use a distance tracker?

Also has anyone lost any weight?! My first goal is to feel fitter and healthier and hope that some weight loss comes as a result? Just interested to know.

Aurora791 · 25/05/2020 10:44

Can I join in your lovely crew! I’ve just finished week 7 Run 3 and am absolutely buzzing. I’m 6.5 months postpartum and was a (slow) runner before but had to stop running at 14 weeks pregnant so it’s been a long time. Really struggled the first few weeks but the program is so good at building up the distance, and now I’m back running 25 mins again. An plodding along very slowly as I have to do it with a running buggy, but the baby sleeps while I run so it’s a win win!

OhTheseSummerNiiiiights · 25/05/2020 11:08

I’m so amazed by all of you doing it with babies, I really am.

It’s a beautiful day here for rest day! After my last 3 runs being in moderate to heavy rain!
