I start week 4 run 1 tomorrow.

But I just kept on running on my last run of week three and did 8 mins, I was aiming to just do an extra 2 but I just kept on going.

I will admit though that I am jogging so slowly that I could easily be overtaken by someone out for a leisurely stroll Grin

Hello! I'm in Spain so have been under house arrest (we've had a very strict lockdown) until two weeks ago so I downloaded this to restart my fitness.

I did weeks one and two last week so going into week 3 this week. On one run last week I didn't feel like stopping for the walk so pressed pause and ended up jogging for 6k Shock. It was all downhill and flat though, and I was very slow. I repeated it with ds timed and it took us 41 minutes for the 5k so I need to get faster. Did W1D3 last night with fast running and it killed me!

OhTheseSummerNiiiiights · 10/05/2020 12:05

I have done it! Did Wk4 R2 today and yes I am slow but I didn’t stop. I am so proud of myself.

OhTheseSummerNiiiiights That’s fantastic - well done!

Well done to everyone committing to this. I’m definitely in this for the long-haul!

I think I’m ‘running’ ridiculously slowly, but I’m doing it. I think my run today will be my first 30 minutes, but I’ll report back after.

OhTheseSummerNiiiiights · 10/05/2020 12:22

You can do it bigchanges!

I so want to keep this up. My period is due this week so that will be hurdle number 1.

I did W3 this week & was surprised I managed the 3min runs. I'm slow but my target is to keep moving & not stop, I'm also lugging 21stone with me so cant quite believe I'm managing what I am.
Not sure how I feel about 5min runs in W4 but then I was dreading last week & managed. Due to do W4R1 tomo so going to give it a go & see how I get on.
Well done to everyone achieving what they can!

Forkrightorf · 10/05/2020 13:34

Pushed through my painful knees and ankles and started week 3 yesterday - I'm sure it's not advisable to run through pain but today they are less sore. Hopefully just my joints adjusting to being used more! So pleased I didn't find the 3 minutes too much! Keep going everyone Smile

wanderlove · 10/05/2020 14:33

Just to give everyone a bit of hope. I completed couch to 5k about 4 years ago and found it tough but despite having babies and not running at times for over a year I now know I can always run 5km. It completely changed my fitness and ability. I'm no gym bunny but I can ru. Now and it's all down to it. The bad news is that some days I still feel like I'm dragging a sack of potatoes around!! I can run much further but it still can feel like really hard work. It's such a good thing to do so keep going!

bigchanges1 · 11/05/2020 08:06

wanderlove That’s very inspiring - thank you.

Well done on getting to/through week 3 mistress and forking. It did so much for my confidence getting that far. I’ve not suffered any pains yet, so not sure how I’ll handle that if I do.

Ofitck Wow you’re way ahead of me hitting 5k already. I’ve not measured distance yet. I’m focusing on completing the podcasts, then I’ll brave looking at the distance.

OhTheseSummerNiiiiights I did it! It was 25 minutes again, so I thought that’s easier enough, I’ve done that before.

I’ve found physically I now know I can do it, so my goal is to finish the podcasts and then continue everything other day.

Right, I’d better get this day started. Looking forward to reading all of your updates later!

HappyHoppyHippo · 11/05/2020 08:18

I'm on week 2 run 2, I'm finding it so hard! I'm the heaviest I've eve been and this is giving me the motivation to kinda so eating cake.

MollyAtTheFolly · 11/05/2020 08:28

I'm about to start Week 8. I was nearly 17st and in Week 1 I would never have thought I could do it. But it's going well (although I can still feel all my fat bouncing up and down Hmm ) and I feel quite accomplished.

My husband has been coming out with me the last few weeks because, while skinny, he has become very unfit. He's made the odd comment about how slow I am, but he's beginning to realise I have much more stamina than him, so go me! Grin The podcast is right, I think - get to your goal of being able to run for 30 mins, then work on speeding up. It's totally down to positive thinking.

Musicalmistress · 11/05/2020 13:06

I blooming well did it!! Managed W4R1 today the last 5 mins was hard but I managed.
If you'd told me when I started wk 1 (& nearly died trying to run for 30secs) that I'd be 'running' for 5min blocks I would've laughed at you!
@OhTheseSummerNiiiiights well done! I'm slow too (reckon anyone walking a decent pace would pass me) but my aim is to not stop, I can work on pace and/or distance once I've got my stamina up.

Thighmageddon · 11/05/2020 14:37

Musical I've done W4 R1 today too.

For some reason it all just suddenly got easier, I ran the last 5 mins, I kept running through the warm down and kept going for another 10 mins.

I actually ran slower than a snail for 20 mins non stop!

Musicalmistress · 11/05/2020 16:57

@Thighmageddon that's amazing! Well done!

Forkrightorf · 11/05/2020 22:42

Oh well done everyone, I love hearing you all getting through it! My knees are giving me grief after W3 R2 this morning but I didn't find the running bit too bad which gives me hope!
Doing c25k with DS9, really enjoying the shared activity with just him if not the actual running yet.

MrsPerfect12 · 12/05/2020 07:25

@Forkrightorf I got scholl gel inserts from amazon and they've really helped my knees. Various brands available but I bought those. If you haven't already as soon as you can go to a run shop and get properly fitted for running trainers as it could be the cause.

OhTheseSummerNiiiiights · 12/05/2020 08:09

If you'd told me when I started wk 1 (& nearly died trying to run for 30secs) that I'd be 'running' for 5min blocks I would've laughed at you!

When Michael pointed out we’re running more than walking I could have punched the air, I was so giddy!

Its amazing how it builds you up! Just finished wk2 run 3. Its funny that the last run is like easier than the rest! Well done everyone!!

OhTheseSummerNiiiiights · 12/05/2020 09:59

Wk4 r3 ✅

It was hard going, I have a demon of a blister on my heel. A powerwalker overtook me 🤣 but I didn’t stop!

OP posts:
Thighmageddon · 12/05/2020 10:12

Summerniiiights are you wearing proper running socks?

bigchanges1 · 12/05/2020 13:36

I did W7 R2 today. The 3 sessions this week are the same on the NHS podcasts - 5 minute warm-up walk, 25 minute run & 5 minute warm-down walk. Apparently, I can now officially call myself a runner!

Ooh I’ve not heard of running socks - though that’s no surprise though as I’ve never been a ‘runner’ before Smile Off to google...

chunkyrun · 12/05/2020 13:41

Week 4 run 1 on Sunday. Started my period and feel like I've been hit by a dome train. Going for run 2 tomorrow canny wait. Worked out I'm running a mile in 15 mins. I'm slow but I still go

OhTheseSummerNiiiiights · 12/05/2020 13:44

No, I’ve only bought a new pair of trainers. I had promised myself that if I kept it up until pay day, I’d treat myself to some nice leggings etc.

I suppose I’ll always need socks though! May investigate. Asda do a terrific padded plaster too. The things you learn!

bigchanges Summerniiiights

I wear 1000 mile socks but there are others available.

There's a thread on them from last week in exercise chat I think it was with people mentioning their preferred brand.

Forkrightorf · 12/05/2020 15:07

@MrsPerfect12 thanks for tip - just ordered some gel inserts, really hope they help. I'm shuffling about like a 90 year old
