Looking for shoulders to lean on!

I've got one more run of week 4 to do. Hurt my knee in week 2/3 and had to give myself big gaps between runs. I've ordered new running shoes from Nike, because all my other trainers are that make so I know they fit nicely - I just need some more cushioning for my high arches.

Horehound · 25/05/2020 18:27

I should have run yesterday but didn't
I'm on the treadmill now! Took some effort!

Horehound · 25/05/2020 18:58

Did it. So this time I did just run at my 9km/h and managed but I'm tired now.
Also I did 200 Cal's and for week two it was around 220 but then I noticed when I switched the treadmill off it had a time of 27 mins but in week one and two it was 29 or 30 so that's obviously why I don't have so many Cals
But I can't understand how it's a shorter time because even if I run faster I still follow the timings Confused

Ohhgreat · 25/05/2020 21:55

Ooh can I join you all? Just done week 3 run 3 tonight, so onto week 4 now! I tried earlier on in the year, got to week 3, injured my knee and abandoned it. But I've been doing Joe Wicks with the kids since lockdown started, so decided to give it another go.

Of course! All welcome!

It’s a beautiful day here, so I finally got a sunshine run. That is me done Wk 6 R3! I can barely believe it myself.

It was hard going between 15-20 minutes. I usually turn around but my legs could only go forward, and then had to walk aaall the way back Grin

Everyone is doing so well Smile

I’ve finished week 9 run 3. I have actually completed Couch to 5K and I can run for 30 minutes. I am so proud of myself Grin

Forkrightorf · 26/05/2020 17:56

Many congratulations @bigchanges1 what an achievement!

OhTheseSummerNiiiiights · 26/05/2020 20:36

Incredible bigchanges! Well done 🎉🥳⭐️

Well done everyone - great to here all your successes!

Musicalmistress · 27/05/2020 08:41

Note to self - check if the distance is measured in miles or km BEFORE having a meltdown!!!
Did W6R2 this morning & used Strava for the first time, more to check my distance as I knew I was really slow but keen to see how far I was walk/running. Checked when I got home...1.9! WTF?!!? I’m not even reaching 2k?!? I thought I was doing quite well?!?!
🥵🥵🤬
Stomped about house, had a little cry to myself in shower then my DP gently suggested I check if it was in km or miles.
Turns out it’s miles so about 3km - you’ve no idea what a difference that 1km makes to how I feel about myself!

Naemates · 27/05/2020 10:49

🤦🏻‍♀️ oh musical! I'm stopping myself from using map my run as I know it will just make me feel bad when I know I'm doing well just being out there. A (competitive) friend was badgering me to tell her how far I go and just wasn't getting that speed and distance are August's problem.

I'm moving on to W2R1 tomorrow. I did an extra W1 run so I could wait for DH to come with me for the increase, as I'm more likely to push myself with a witness. He's proud of me for making up my mind to do it and just doing it; he doesn't know about the 18 or so years I've spent being too scared to go out the door!

Musicalmistress · 27/05/2020 15:34

@Naemates well done you!
I've finally taken the bull by the horns & am doing it myself. DP has badgered me for years to so something, anything! And I've started a few things but always end up giving up then feeling worse about myself.
He can out with me once (I think W1R3) but I've felt more comfortable out by myself - he's super competitive & has asked a few times how far I've gone (always answered with how long I've run for lol). He's really supportive but his blend of support often makes me feel like I've got a drill sergeant at my back (a very nice one who wants the best for me but still!) I've found going out by myself cathartic & empowering. I still run very early in the morning but partly because the routine suits me & I haven't stopped running when someone comes along so I'm feeling pretty proud of myself. Proud that I'm out there, doing it - not how far or how fast but that I'm sticking with it!
I've even started to enjoy it a little, enjoy the headspace & the quiet 🤫

Hi!

Finished week 4 run 3 today after my ankle accident earlier this week! @mooching I rested it for 2 solid days and then it was ok.

I have read it's more mental week 5 then physical.

Is anyone struggling to run with the heat? I'm going out early but its still warm out! Love reading all your successes on here! Gives me the motivation to keep going!

Grouphugs · 27/05/2020 16:18

Looking for advice.

I was feeling so proud of myself for getting to week 7, running every two days like clockwork.

Then I woke up one morning on a non-run day with pain in my Achilles' tendon. I tried running the next day but it was far too sore.

Two weeks later it's fine to walk on but still too sore for running.

Does anyone have any advice or exercises I could do? I am flat footed and hyper mobile which doesn't help.

mooching · 27/05/2020 16:23

@FerreroRocherAreAmazing glad you got out again, well done!

I have to say my knees are feeling a little sore on days (w4r1 today) and I wonder whether I should alternate my runs on the running machine which is much more forgiving.

@musical that made me laugh, although sorry you were upset. Reminds me of when I ordered 2kg of aubergines instead of just 2!

@grouphugs sorry no advice but hope someone comes along soon.

Ohhgreat · 27/05/2020 21:36

Well done everyone :)

Week 4 run 1 done, wow that was hard, I ended up calling my husband to meet me as I walked home as my legs were jelly.... I did it though! Yeowch, not looking forward to joe wicks with the kids at 9am tomorrow...

Horehound · 27/05/2020 22:45

@Musicalmistress what a shame but at least you got it resolved hehe that's the kind of thing I would do.

I should have run today but I just couldn't be arsed. I'll do it tomorrow if baby gives me a good night's sleep zzzz

GuyFawkesDay · 27/05/2020 22:50

W6R1 here today.

Didn't want to go. Lots of excuses in my head.

Went anyway. Loved it.

Horehound · 27/05/2020 22:52

That's great @guyfawkesday! Well done!

banjaxxed · 27/05/2020 22:53

I completed week 3 today, Week 4 looks really hard though Shock

Well done to everyone!!

Horehound · 27/05/2020 23:09

Well done @banjaxxed I should have finished week 3 today too. I lost my running pal now because I've been lazy!

mooching · 28/05/2020 09:58

@banjaxed it is definitely up another level but surprisingly manageable. I went with DD yesterday and felt euphoric afterwards.

Can't believe that I actually wake up and think 'oh hooray, today is a run day'.

Sadly a days rest here today, looking forward to W4R2 tomorrow.

SudokuBook · 28/05/2020 10:25

Week 5 run 2 here today. I’m slower running than most people walking but I’m doing it. I’m doing my best for a morbidly obese late 40s woman!

I never believed I could run for 8 minutes and it’s bloody hot out there already! I don’t usually take water as it’s only half an hour and I am already carrying my phone so don’t want to carry a bottle as well but I am already worrying about week 5 run 3 and trying to go for 20 minutes.

banjaxxed · 28/05/2020 10:35

@horehand we got this, we will get through it! Sometimes I have 2 rest days and not 1 and I don't have a baby!!

I will run tomorrow for the 1st one of week 4. I think you mentioned that it's only 25 mins - it is shorter in wk3 than the previous weeks but I guess it ramps up again.

I have been travelling 2.8K in week3 down from 3.2 km in week 2 according to Strava with an average pace of 9.1km/hour but that's over the whole time of running and walking, no idea what the splits are.

I am not bothered if I get to 5K by week 9 - for me that fact I will be able to to run for 30 minutes will be all I need!!!

Might treat myself to some new trainers Smile
