Looking for shoulders to lean on!

I’ve just done W7 R3 & feeling really positive. Will start W8 on Saturday. It’s becoming part of my routine now & I’m really ‘enjoying’ it.

How’s everyone else getting on?

OhTheseSummerNiiiiights · 14/05/2020 10:54

OMG- week 5 r1 done!

Very pleased 😃 well done to everyone still going! I feel like it is in my routine too. I go a walk on my rest day and miss the movement!

Gel inserts sound great, I may get some.

I'm on week one and I've done two runs so far
Did fine really. I was happy before run one but by the end I felt deflated
Felt a lot better after run two and now I'm looking forward to run three
I made my own running playlist for run two rather than using my husband's for run one and I think that really made a difference!

OhTheseSummerNiiiiights · 14/05/2020 11:19

I need to make my own playlist. I can’t have anything fast on or I lose my head and start sprinting!

Did W3 R1 with DD1 yesterday. I felt fabulous afterwards, which I never felt when I did it before and I'm raring to get out again.

Definitely running with someone else helped distract me out of the counting down the minutes in my head though, and I will get some trainer inserts as one knee was sore.

Anyway, bring it on!

FerreroRocherAreAmazing · 14/05/2020 11:25

Well done @Horehound. The first runs are the hardest mentally I found! After that week I was like I can do this! I have just finished run 1 week 3 and I was amazed by myself running 2 lots of 3 minutes! Only thing was my heart was hurting after the second one! I think it was my breathing as I was concentrating on that and so was like gasping after the 2nd one! But I know I can do it. Roll on the next run!

Horehound · 14/05/2020 22:41

Thanks @FerreroRocherAreAmazing
Eek a sore heart sounds concerning!!

I didn't have a rest day today so went straight to run 3 of week one, I think I should have done the rest day as didn't feel so confident today but did manage :)
I'm really not sure I'm ready for week two though cause I'm quite out of breath after the 60 seconds

Re music. I have some really good heavier style stuff for midway through my run and feel like in lagging. That music picks me right up and makes me want to smash it so I get a big oomph from it. The start and end if the playlist is mellower. :)

chunkyrun · 15/05/2020 07:47

What inserts are people using? On week 4 and thinking I need to invest in proper running shoes. My flat feet aren't really cut out for running. In Nike huaraches at minute

OhTheseSummerNiiiiights · 15/05/2020 09:50

Someone linked scholl ones earlier. I haven’t tried them yet though.

OP posts:
Forkrightorf · 16/05/2020 20:33

I ordered the scholl gel inserts recommended upthread, about £15 from amazon. I rate them - my knees are a dull, creaky ache rather than really painful like before. The impact on my joints when I'm actually running feels less with them in too.
Repeated a w3 run this morning instead of moving on to w4 as DS didn't come with me and I didn't want to skip ahead of him. Can do the 3 minute runs fairly comfortably but am quite nervous of attempting 5 minutes on Monday. Wish me luck!

OhTheseSummerNiiiiights · 16/05/2020 21:43

Good luck fork! You can do it!

I confess that today was run day but I did not go out, I got my period this morning and honestly couldn't face it. Bleurgh.

Horehound · 17/05/2020 11:06

I did my week 2 run 1 yesterday. Was a but nervous but managed it and I did start to tire towards the last three runs. I can highly recommend Linkin Parks "numb" for a song to play just past half way through lol it really gives me a kick up the bum!

Don't worry @ohthesesummerniiiiights I think we'll all have days like that!

Horehound · 17/05/2020 15:56

Can I ask ..if anyone is doing this on a treadmill what speeds are you going at?
I'm walking at 5.4km ph and running at 9km ph

Thighmageddon · 17/05/2020 17:47

@Horehound I am.

I don't know what it is in kph but I'm walking at 3mph and jogging at 3.2mph. Really, really slow but it's meant I've been able to up my walking v running fairly easily.

I'm not bothered about speed, I want endurance.

Thighmageddon · 17/05/2020 17:49

Just looked it up, I'm walking at 4.8kph and running at 5.1.

Horehound · 17/05/2020 17:56

Ok that's made me feel better because my husband told me he runs at 12! Yeah my legs would fall off lol

Rosie2000 · 17/05/2020 18:08

I finished C25k this morning, at least accomplished one thing whilst in lockdown. Last week I didn’t always take a rest day and I think this was a mistake as I didn’t feel as comfortable on my runs- does anyone else feel the same? Also what’s next? I’m planning to try to improve my speed/distance but wondered if anyone knows of a good app?

chunkyrun · 17/05/2020 18:54

Anyone completed week 5? Just finished week 4. Looked at a break down for the week and seems a big jump! 5minuted to 8minutes Confused

OhTheseSummerNiiiiights · 17/05/2020 19:04

Congratulations Rosie! What an achievement

chunkyrun I am just in from Week 5 R 2 Grin It sounded a big jump and I was quite apprehensive, but I really worked hard on pacing myself and I did it.

I also haven't been looking ahead, which helps me. Blind hope!

Thighmageddon · 17/05/2020 19:06

Horehound even when I ran a lot before, I've never managed 7 minute miles 😂 The best I ever ran were 12 min miles!

Horehound · 17/05/2020 20:21

Congrats @Rosie2000!

For week one I ran two days in a row and definitely felt it. I did a rest day before starting week two and I'm so glad I did and will continue to keep doing rest days. Muscles need to rejuvenate etc so I suppose it's important!

@Thighmageddon 12 Min miles means you were running at 8.05kmh which is good!
7 mins would be like 13kmh?! I would die 😂

Rosie2000 · 17/05/2020 20:37

Thanks- I think I’ll continue with rest days. I have no idea about the science but I’m faster after a rest day. Keep going everyone

Musicalmistress · 18/05/2020 11:05

@chunkyrun I did W5R1 today, attempting R2 on Wednesday, I'm a bit apprehensive too but more concerned about the jump to R3!!
I'm not a natural runner - 20+stone & very slow but the focus is just on keeping moving I guess.

Thighmageddon · 18/05/2020 11:11

@Musicalmistress I really wouldn't worry about going slowly, read above about the snail pace I'm going at.

I'll try and find the YouTube video I watched that made such sense to me about shuffling along really slowly but being able to maintain it versus going faster.

I'll be doing week 5 R1 tomorrow too.
