So many questions-like where’s the sex dungeon, why so many chairs in the bedroom?

Sorry, which is the modern bedroom, @bemusedmoose?

MrsFrTedCrilly · 01/05/2020 19:12

It’s utterly magnificent in its own way. So many opportunities to sit down Grin

inuk2004 · 01/05/2020 19:15

Thanks for that.... some stuff you just can't un-see....

WTF was going on with the designer ... MC Esher meets the 60's and stuff gets weird

Griselda1 · 01/05/2020 19:15

It's a huge amount of space, seriously large. The concrete slabs are pretty awful but if they were lifted it really would be a blank canvas. The whole thing just needs neutralised although the suspended ceilings are shocking.I assume by the sofa near the aga that an old person must have lived there.

getyoursocksoffhoney · 01/05/2020 19:19

Speaking as someone from the area, the price isn't that unusual and will probably be reduced. I think it's hard when you have lived in a house for so long and put so much care into it to let it go for less than what you see it's worth. There's been a few houses in similar states to this that I can think of that have sold in the last few years for about £500k after being out on originally £700 is I definitely don't spend far too much time on Rightmove

labazsisgoingmad · 01/05/2020 19:21

streuth enough to give you migraine permanently!

VerbenaGirl · 01/05/2020 19:22

Wow! It’s already brilliant, then the giraffe pops up!

JonHammIsMyJamm · 01/05/2020 19:25

@getyoursocksoffhoney &Griselda, if you flick back in the thread, it appears to be a probate sale. @ILiveNearby has the details.

It has a strange, bonkers charm.

I suspect the armchair by the AGA is there because 4500sqft is expensive to heat and a long way to walk when you’re 80/90 years old. So you settle where the kettle is, in your comfy chair by the cosy AGA.

OldSpeclkledHen · 01/05/2020 19:25

Ooooh that's nasty 😳😳

getyoursocksoffhoney · 01/05/2020 19:31

@JonHammIsMyJamm I know that's my point, it's sometimes hard for owners of homes like these and their family to realise they aren't worth what they think, hence they go on the market at a high asking price then end up being reduced Smile

getyoursocksoffhoney · 01/05/2020 19:33

But in general it's not massively overpriced for the area which is what some PP were wondering

FaveNumberIs2 · 01/05/2020 19:39

I get a very 70s porn star vibe from it.

Personally, I’d love it but I’d have to gut it and redecorate everything!

Vynalbob · 01/05/2020 19:41

I think it maybe where Les Dawson lived. Probably time capsuled from when he passed away.
Just a guess

murakamilove · 01/05/2020 19:43

I love it! 😳 (am I super weird?)

Ken1976 · 01/05/2020 19:46

I think it belonged to an old person/ couple who, as they became more infirm have got it down to living mainly one room , hence the armchairs in the kitchen

OJZJ · 01/05/2020 19:47

I LOVE it!! If i had the money and lived on the area i would buy it, I would want a lot of furnishings and bits left like the giraffe Grinand would keep a lot of features tbh. Mind you I live in a 1940s 1950s badly laid out property and have kept it quite old fashioned with heavy darkwood furniture.

.Not read to the end of the thread so excuse me if it's been said.
It was obviously very grand and stylish when built and furnished by possibly somebody in a show businesses lifestyle in the 60s, this would be the height of glamourous fashion.
judging from the photos high end items that lasted sixty years, like the amazing carpets.
For the square footage it's an amazing price, but I live in the South East.
Oh and it's not a bed it's a little coupe possibly a classic, covered with a bed spread in the garage and the armchair by the aga in the kitchen has a tv opposite so clearly an elderly person possibly living on their own and not warranting heating the whole house, I quite liked sitting by the aga reading when we had one when I was younger.
Thanks Ok, I hope somebody sympathetic buys this

howcomes · 01/05/2020 19:48

This house must be a neighbouring one, interesting to see they have the same carpet.

Shmithecat2 · 01/05/2020 19:48

I think it's awesome, almost museum like! Yes, it obvs needs refurbing but I'd live in it like that for a little while 😂

Gromit78 · 01/05/2020 19:51

I can only guess there is a secret bunker in the garden and the residents got scared that a nuclear bomb had gone off and world war 3 was about to start on the 1970's and locked themselves down for 50 years. They are probsbly still there.

Carouselfish · 01/05/2020 19:51

They need to leave it as is and use it as a film location. Psychedelic horrors particularly.

boatyardblues · 01/05/2020 19:54

The National Trust should buy it. It’s as ‘of its time’ as all their other period properties. That paved garden is crying out for café tables and there’s plenty of room indoors for one.

getyoursocksoffhoney · 01/05/2020 19:55

@Vynalbob not where Les Dawson lived his house is on quite a private road at the other side of the town

JonHammIsMyJamm · 01/05/2020 20:01

@howcomes, not big fans of grass in St Anne’s are they? Grin

chubbylover78 · 01/05/2020 20:10

Looks like an old hotel/b&b that as been bought and left to live in.

PolloDePrimavera · 01/05/2020 20:32

@Svalberg about most houses in the North West being leasehold? They might be there but not in Cheshire anyway. Didn't mean to sound arsey btw.
