So thinking ahead of things to look forward to, what is the first restaurant you'll be going to and what will you be ordering?

It's funny - I do a fair bit of fine dining and I love it, but what I've really missed are the real home foods, same as I miss when I'm abroad a while. I was in the US for months last year and dreamed of:

  1. Pub lunch.
  2. Full English in a caff.
  3. Chippy.
  4. Afternoon tea.
  5. Kebabs (Rusholme style).

I know I could make these, well, apart from the kebab, but I miss the whole ritual of it, of being in those spaces: leaning against the tiled wall of the chippy flicking through the free paper, clinking the tea cup against the saucer and arguing about which tier to start on (scones or sandwiches?! the battle begins), chatting to the lady as she fries my eggs, kicking my legs on the picnic table in the beer garden, walking down past all the lit up curry houses and sweet shops and jewellers with the kebabs tapping against my leg as they swing in the carrier bag.

Pasture in Bristol for the steak I should have had on my birthday.

Ninkanink · 26/04/2020 12:46

Yes I’m going to have KFC as soon as they’re open again and will deliver. I’m not waiting til this is all done to have KFC!

NordSjoen · 26/04/2020 12:49

English’s in Brighton. Incredible seafood. Also Curry Leaf Cafe (although we had their delivery “heat at home” last week), Indian Summer or Chilli Pickle. Moshimo or Sushi Garden and Kambi’s for Lebanese. DS has clubs in town on a Saturday and we always go out for lunch to one of these places between his sessions. Really missing that this weekend, for some reason.

A seafood chowder in a little restaurant on the pier in Howth, and Red Torch Ginger which is a Thai restaurant I went to with a friend....delicious Massaman curry.

SquirrelFan · 26/04/2020 12:54

@FenellaMaxwell I came to say the same! Plus one of their delicious cocktails.

Titsywoo · 26/04/2020 12:57

Miller and Carter - I miss their steaks!

BirdieFriendReturns · 26/04/2020 13:08

itsbetterthanabox · 26/04/2020 13:12

triedandtestedteacher · 26/04/2020 13:18

Miller and carter

NaomiFromMilkShake · 26/04/2020 13:27

The Ivy

They do the most amazing cocktails.

The longing for this is made worse by the fact that we actually had a table booked when they closed, we were going to celebrate two birthdays, and the end of boob gate and all the attendant treatment.

Ah well safe indoors.

@magicstar1

The Brass Monkey ?

Nixen · 26/04/2020 13:31

nowaitaminute · 26/04/2020 13:33

Pretty much all of the restaurants in my town and in the nearest city are doing delivery so we can get delivery of the cravings crop up which is fab! So far we have had Indian and Japanese...yum yum!!

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 26/04/2020 13:34

Local restaurant we cancelled our booking for the week before lockdown. Not sure what I’m ordering yet as menu will have changed.

Pentium85 · 26/04/2020 13:37

@SuperLoudPoppingAction

Do you have an Iceland near you at all? Or online?

Fresh. Pastys. Every. Day.

spagbog5 · 26/04/2020 13:40

The Ivy
We go regularly and will all go as a family to celebrate being together in our favourite restaurant.

Rockbird · 26/04/2020 13:43

There's a pub near me that has a Thai restaurant at the back and they have the most beautiful gang garee. Some friends and I had been planning to go back just before lockdown. Can't wait to go back there.

NaomiFromMilkShake · 26/04/2020 13:46

@magicstar1

Or Aqua ?

Both of which I will be visiting as soon as I can get on a plane.

Along with Bay for breakfast, though they have rather lost the run of themselves price wise.

God I am homesick.

HeyChief · 26/04/2020 13:49

@superram I think we must live near you. I’ve not been to The Walpole in ages but it’s great and I think I’ll join you there!

I’ll also be heading to a Local sushi restaurant (not sure which one - we have a good choice) and also down to the river to have a glass of wine. And also a glass of wine sat outside the chaotic restaurant in our local park. I miss drinking wine in public!

Onesmallstepforaman · 26/04/2020 13:57

Little Italy in York.
San petrol in Scunthorpe.
Both fantastic

MsSquiz · 26/04/2020 14:02

Our local family run Italian restaurant.
We used to go regularly for a family Sunday lunch (all 14 of us) or just dinner for me and DH.
They started doing delivery at the start of lockdown so we used them on Mother's Day - it was my first Mother's Day and I was sad we weren't seeing any family, so I can't wait to go straight there for a long lunch and few glasses of Prosecco

Bluejuicyapple · 26/04/2020 14:09

Im desperately craving a Wagamamas. Once I’ve had that then a Friday brunch in a fabulous local cafe, steak at HAsksmoor, my favourite Japanese place and an evening with friends at our local Ivy plus the kids to our favourite Italian. I’ll also pick up a take away coffee just for the hell of it

Hidingtonothing · 26/04/2020 14:16

My favourite local Indian restaurant and I will be ordering 'something nice' Smile The owner is a friend and is amazing at thinking up new dishes so I usually just ask for a surprise and he brings me something wonderful. My mouth is watering at the thought and now I really don't fancy the chicken dinner I'm cooking Sad

40somethingJBJ · 26/04/2020 15:01

The little tea rooms in my village for her amazing homemade lasagne, followed by a huge slice of cake. Next would be a carvery at a local pub as it’s fabulous. My son (14) just wants McDonald’s and Nando’s.
