She seems cold and untrustworthy. Her speech is full of words such as ‘compassion’ but I feel she isn’t worthy of addressing the nation like this in view of how she’s behaved.

She looked pretty aggressive. Staccato hands and bunched fist..

The non apology will be because she cannot apologise for fear of law suits. I heard on the news there are already ones being launched in France against the government for deaths of HCP’s due to the lack of ppe. Idk if it is the case here.

Namechangervaver · 11/04/2020 20:45

I've literally never heard a male politician described as aggressive. Or a white woman for that matter.

Confusedbutheyho · 11/04/2020 20:47

@namechangervaver

That’s because most try their best not to come across as aggressive rather they try to cover it up. But their policies and outlook no doubt are.

Please do not try to suggest this is racism for goodness sake Hmm

@Mummyoflittledragon

No doubt there are implications but I think her manner about it and wording was plain wrong and disrespectful to the NHS and those putting their life on the line.

OP posts:
Bubblysqueak · 11/04/2020 20:50

Her speech also had lots of 'I' in it e.g. I've done this, I've done that whereas everyone else have always said we, my team, like a group effort.

SouthWestmom · 11/04/2020 20:56

I think she looked irritated not aggressive. Like stop asking me this.

carlywurly · 11/04/2020 21:00

Bubblysqueak I noticed the "I did" business.

Unfortunately the numerous bullying allegations have really tarnished her. I worked for someone very similar and longed for people to see through her. They did in the end.

Mummyoflittledragon · 11/04/2020 21:06

I didn’t mean literally aggressive as in “I want to beat someone up” aggressive. I was using it to contrast against the smoothness and polished oration of other politicians. I’d say in general Barrack Obama comes over as polished whereas Trump, aggressive. ie the “piss off and don’t question my authority” look.

Mummyoflittledragon · 11/04/2020 21:11

Confused
I’m totally with you on the non apology and yes, she has totally missed the mark and shown a lot of disrespect. This coupled with speech and Hancock telling people not to waste ppe is horrendous. It sounds like complete deflection of blame.

Confusedbutheyho · 11/04/2020 21:13

@mummyoflittledragon

She does indeed have that look and manner, I feel sorry for anyone having had a boss like her.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 11/04/2020 21:16

There was also the bit where she switched from referring to DV victims as they/them to you halfway through a sentence. It was like she’d suddenly remembered she was supposed to be sending out a personal message to encourage people to seek help.

GCAcademic · 11/04/2020 21:32

But no one comments at the smirking we get from Emily Thornberry and the patronising language she uses 🙄

Rest assured, Emily Thornberry gets plenty of criticism. But crucially, she is not the Home Secretary or involved in the government's response to the pandemic. So she is of little relevance at this point.

Pedallleur · 11/04/2020 21:46

Prob trying to keep that smug grin off her face.

WomanIsTaken · 11/04/2020 21:53

Priti "Sorry, not sorry" Patel. Poor fucking show. I can't believe she thought she would get away with that disingenuous crap.

TheABC · 11/04/2020 22:03

What I don't get is why she is so crap at public appearances! She is an elected MP which means, at some stage, she had to speak to her constituents.

I fully expect her to be a vicious, cold-hearted incompetent bully: it's almost the entry requirements under today's Tory party. But she seems to lack almost every key skill to be an MP as well as a manager.

woodlands01 · 11/04/2020 22:10

A 14 year old I know said when she is talking about the positive she prefixes it with 'I' and when she's talking about the negative the prefix is 'we'. Outed

Confusedbutheyho · 11/04/2020 22:23

@woodlands01

Blimey perceptive 14 y/o

Even younger minds can pick up on her wordplay

The British Medical Association earlier said that NHS staff were putting their lives at risk when treating patients.

The health secretary said earlier that 19 NHS workers had died with coronavirus since the outbreak began.

Speaking at Saturday's coronavirus briefing in Downing Street, the home secretary said: "I'm sorry if people feel that there have been failings. I will be very, very clear about that."

swimlyn · 11/04/2020 22:51

"I'm sorry you feel like that" is NOT an apology!

Priti poor showing all round. Sad

Sostenueto · 11/04/2020 23:44

Patel went to Watford Grammar school then Keele University and University of Essex. Worked for tobacco and alcohol industries. Advocated them when she went into politics. A fan of Margaret Thatcher a brexiteer and threatened Northern Ireland with food shortages. Oh and she would like to bring back hanging!

Sostenueto · 11/04/2020 23:45

I was waiting for ' I'm sorry you feel like that .....but tough, get over it' !

SlipperyNipples · 12/04/2020 00:29

At least she has said that they have carried out exactly 300,000,34,900,74,000 tests Wink

Starksforthewin · 12/04/2020 00:41

How in God’s name has she reached the position of Home Secretary?

Can it really just be a quota thing?

She is thick as mince. Cannot read from a paper in front of her, cannot speak clearly or with proper enunciation. What sort of example is she supposed to be setting?

The non apology really fucks me off, why wasn’t she pressed harder by the journalists? You can see her first instinct is defensiveness followed quickly by attack, I bet she is a nightmare to brief, always thinks she knows more than she actually does.

Quite unreasonably I was also irritated that she took the time to precisely make up her eyes but couldn’t take the time to properly read her papers and prepare for the press conference.
No substance, whatsoever.

SlipperyNipples · 12/04/2020 00:46

@Starksforthewin I've been wondering about hair and make up for these things too, surely such a non priority. I wonder if they have people to do it for them still.

I've watched and re watched her non apology - what a witchy thing to say. Urgh.

Dutypaid · 12/04/2020 01:02

She really should stop speaking in public.
