She seems cold and untrustworthy. Her speech is full of words such as ‘compassion’ but I feel she isn’t worthy of addressing the nation like this in view of how she’s behaved.

She was standing on a box.

We've all met that person. When you complain, they explode at you:

"Well I'm sorry if you think it's not good enough!"

Confusedbutheyho · 11/04/2020 17:36

@MaxNormal

You’re completely right, I allow myself to get drawn in by those big brown eyes Grin

She didn’t even manage not to smirk did she Joys? I’m not sure she made it to the lectern before the smirk made an appearance.

I so want to like her as a female BAME politician but she’s just awful.

Yes, this. It's disappointing, but she really is vile.

Appiandterri · 11/04/2020 17:37

I'm SORRY if you feel that way

Yes that was awful.

pussycatinboots · 11/04/2020 17:37

Is she suffering from the "Peter" principle? or just cold to any emotion or the feelings of others?

StSaulOfSnacks · 11/04/2020 17:38

She definitely smirked.

Schoolisback1973 · 11/04/2020 17:38

I switched off! not her doing the briefings, please!! No!

Lonelycrab · 11/04/2020 17:39

Well from the sounds of it she managed to suppress her smirk. That probably used up half her brain though.

dontcallmelen · 11/04/2020 17:40

@Iwalkinmyclothing so succinctly put👏

MockersxxxxxxxSocialDistancing · 11/04/2020 17:41

' three hundred thousand thirty four nine hundred and seventy four thousand'

Wasn't that a song in Rent ?

jasjas1973 · 11/04/2020 17:42

She did better than i thought and i detest many tory policies and politicians.

Her apology (on PPE) of "I feel sorry if people feel there have been failings...... "
Jeez why bother???

21 NHS staff have died, why can't anyone in Govt offer a genuine apology for what in many cases are avoidable infections?
I for one would think better of them for it.

MaxNormal · 11/04/2020 17:45

@Confusedbutheyho, such things are easily done, no-one would blame you Grin

B1rdbra1n · 11/04/2020 17:47

I wish she would enunciate properly
workin'
leadin'
etc

Florencemattell · 11/04/2020 17:48

She came across as aggressive and defensive. Very bad move letting her speak today.

ivykaty44 · 11/04/2020 17:48

she can't even count ffs she couldn't even read out numbers it was a mess
28 NHS staff have died, not 19, not 21
I can't fathom how these people are thought of as doing a good job

LouHotel · 11/04/2020 17:50

Watch her be used as the scapegoat for PPE, I imagine will see a lot more of her over the next week whilst the PPE issue is getting press coverage.

Can’t have Raab, Rishi, Johnson and Hancock be blamed - hell the first page of this topic has posters exclaiming they like them better.

I think Patel is awful but the entire government are to blame for their response to the pandemic and they know she is already disliked.

CantSayJack · 11/04/2020 17:51

Priti Awful.

Nonnymum · 11/04/2020 17:51

She seemed very defensive, and combatative. She's not someone I can warm to though,. I think the allegations of bullying are true she seems like someone who doesn't listen and doesn't like to admit she's wrong. But I don't think she is any worse than Dominic Raab..

Al1Langdownthecleghole · 11/04/2020 17:58

There's obviously a reason that she had been allowed on on Easter Saturday.

She won't be standing in again anytime soon.

Chesntoots · 11/04/2020 17:59

Perhaps the idea is that we all hate her briefings so much that none of us watch them and they can get away with saying anything!

I've watched nearly all the others, but today was the first time I actively switched off.

PigletJohn · 11/04/2020 18:03

It seems they have all been instructed not to apologise, not to accept responsibility for anything, and, if asked a difficult question where the truth would look bad, to waffle pointlessly and use up time.

What's the chance anyone will say "I'm sorry we were not better prepared and it will be a month before we have enough protective equipment for healthcare workers."?

Mrsmadevans · 11/04/2020 18:03

'I've watched nearly all the others, but today was the first time I actively switched off.'
Me too Hmm

She was not very good at delivering her speech but I thought she dealt with questions well. And what politician is going to swallow the bait of being asked to apologise on behalf of the government while the Prime Minister is incapacitated? He would totally have to authorise any apology, and issue it himself. Typical of the idiot journalists, though. And it was Priti's turn to do a stint answering those imbeciles. How the speakers manage to keep their tempers is beyond me.
