New leader. Good news, but wish Lisa Nandy could have been deputy.

Er....meant Starmer, of course!

This is great news for Labour and for the country. As of today, we have a functioning opposition for the first time in years.

@Clawdy Lisa didn’t run for deputy. That’s a separate contest.

EmpressLangClegInChair · 04/04/2020 11:04

Well, thank fuck for that. I wasn’t keen on any of the others as either leader or deputy though.

LemonRedwood · 04/04/2020 11:05

Good

bellinisurge · 04/04/2020 11:05

Thank fuck.

Fleetheart · 04/04/2020 11:06

Good news. He’s robust, intelligent and has integrity.

NoWordForFluffy · 04/04/2020 11:07

Thank god. I was concerned that the membership may not see sense!

BeardedMum · 04/04/2020 11:07

Great news. Finally some good news. Hope he can tidy up a bit in his party!!

OhClover · 04/04/2020 11:08

Finally, we can have a functioning opposition.

Shame the party has been drained of so much talent though. Hope he can build it back up.

RedRec · 04/04/2020 11:09

Thank God for that. The other two are inept Corbyn clones.

Duchessofblandings · 04/04/2020 11:10

Thank goodness. Sanity restored.

Biker47 · 04/04/2020 11:10

Shame Angela Rayner is deputy though.

franke · 04/04/2020 11:11

My thoughts exactly @Biker47.

ThanosSavedMe · 04/04/2020 11:11

Am I the only one shocked that he’s 57?

Glad he’s got it. Time for some decent opposition

GreyGardens88 · 04/04/2020 11:11

It's going to take Labour at least 10 years to recover from Corbyn, this man will never be Prime Minister

Duchessofblandings · 04/04/2020 11:12

“Shame Angela Rayner is deputy though“

Oh dear, spoke too soon ......

Mooserp · 04/04/2020 11:14

Starter for 10 😆

Good news

InglouriousBasterd · 04/04/2020 11:14

Fantastic news!

CalmerViolet · 04/04/2020 11:15

Good.
I might re-join the party.

Shame about Rayner, as she is another Corbyn numpty, but hopefully KS will brook no nonsense in building policy.

We need an end to protest votes.

The election of Corbyn was a protest vote, much of the Referendum, bloody Boris...

The election of KS represents a re-set. IMO.

Clawdy · 04/04/2020 11:15

AgeLikeWine I know it's a separate contest, but I was just wishing that the runner-up could be deputy. But now I see Lisa wasn't runner-up! Was so sure she would be.

PineappleDanish · 04/04/2020 11:16

Corbyn and his minions made it impossible for me to ever consider a vote for Labour. Starmer is more centrist, he is clever and switched on, and will lead an effective opposition.

Can't stand Angela Rayner but she's second fiddle anyway.

Hearhoovesthinkzebras · 04/04/2020 11:16

Excellent news isn't it? I thought he ran a really decent campaign.

Glad I voted now.

MarshaBradyo · 04/04/2020 11:17

Finally! Seems like an age but so glad he did.

catnidge · 04/04/2020 11:18

Yes Grin

AgeLikeWine · 04/04/2020 11:19

Keir on antisemitism : “I’m sorry. I will tear this poison out by its roots”.

Fighting talk, and exactly what so many of us have been waiting years to hear. There is a cancer in our movement which has been allowed to grow. It must be cut out ruthlessly, and if some on the hard left don’t like it, they can fuck off out of our party.
