New leader. Good news, but wish Lisa Nandy could have been deputy.

I have been lucky enough to meet Keir and work with him at Labour conference. He has integrity, wit, brains, charme and compassion. I have great hope in his talent and hope he keeps Emily Thirnberry in the shadow cabinet and invites David Lanny to be part of it. I left the party after holding (minor) office and don't want to go back to frontline politics (I am too think skinned and sensitive for it) but KS as leader makes me want to join again.

EffervescentElephant · 04/04/2020 23:04

Emily Thornberry and David Lammy I meant of course.

EasyPleasey · 04/04/2020 23:36

Hopefully he will move towards the centre and get rid of the anti semitism. I'd prefer a more secular party. I would consider voting for him.

Thank god we have boris 'cheated on my wife when she had cancer' Johnson to look after women instead, because hes in a party who dislikes trans people from a different ideological view, and is therefore definitely your friend,.

CendrillonSings · 05/04/2020 00:06

You must have been the absolute picture of delight on election night... Wink

user1471565182 · 05/04/2020 00:24

it took you 2 hours or so to come up with that?

user1471565182 · 05/04/2020 00:26

noticable that torys no longer even bother to try defending the morally indefensible,.

CendrillonSings · 05/04/2020 01:08

What are “torys”? Do you mean “Tories”? Why do socialists insist on waging war on basic spelling and grammar as well as on capitalism? Grin

ALongHardWinter · 05/04/2020 01:13

Finally! Now I can go back to voting labour. Smile

user1471565182 · 05/04/2020 02:08

No lovey, its torys, or toraidhes if you're as desperate as that.

Whoareyoudududu · 05/04/2020 06:18

We voted for him because he was the only candidate who supports women’s rights over trans rights. Or should I say, the rights of the ‘non binary’.

Reginabambina · 05/04/2020 06:23

I’m very pleased. This is the first time I’ve considered voting labour. He’s a really good guy apparently. I wouldn’t know, I’ve never met him but even really right wing people I know who know him say he’d make a good leader.

Peregrina · 05/04/2020 07:52

Interesting. They say Sunak is a good guy who listens. Now we read that Starmer is a good guy who will be a good leader. I think between them, we might see Johnson being given a run for his money.

Noodlenosefraggle · 05/04/2020 09:12

Hopefully we're moving to to the other side of the cycle when we can get sensible intelligent politicians who want to do what they feel is right rather than populists and ideologues running the show on both sides.

MarshaBradyo · 05/04/2020 09:14

If Sunak and Starmer are up in next election it goes from zero people I want to vote for to two. It’s be a good election, based on sensible policy imo.

Noodlenosefraggle · 05/04/2020 09:15

Although I wonder whether Labour will start looking at themselves and their processes if the Tories end up with 2 female leaders and an Asisn leader and they have had a succession of white men in charge. Probably not!

Lordfrontpaw · 05/04/2020 09:19

I hope he starts by clearing out the absolute nonsense and taking to task some of those who have been absolutely hideous on their comments.

I am looking forward to a party of supporting the current government (god knows they need it) - not just whinging and sniping at everything the do and say. Its like when you are in a meeting and someone just sits there complaining but not offering suggestions.

VegetableMunge · 05/04/2020 09:55

While the Tories have all the political heavyweights

Which reality are you posting from?

CendrillonSings · 05/04/2020 10:06

Which reality are you posting from?

The one in which the Conservatives have a majority of 80 and Labour has been reduced to its lowest level of Parliamentary representation since 1935 Smile

Tonyaster · 05/04/2020 10:09

I think he will lose public support if he constantly snipes a la Corbyn. Hopefully he's cleverer than that.

MarshaBradyo · 05/04/2020 10:10

Well he’s got to challenge but he sounds more balanced than Corbyn already.

VegetableMunge · 05/04/2020 10:16

And yet if it were the same one the rest of us were posting from, you'd be able to list these heavyweights instead of desperately trying to avoid it by posting unrelated facts. We all know you don't really think votes equals heavyweights anyway, given your stated views on some of the Labour MPs with the highest majorities.

So come on then, let's hear who they are. I'll even start you off by agreeing with a pp about Julian Smith...

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 05/04/2020 10:17

the left of the party can return to the back benches planning their revolution that thankfully we won’t have to deal with for some time

Shame Angela Rayner has such a senior position but there are far more important positions for intelligent MPs who are not so easily led. Hopefully she shall be sensible and cut ties one she sees how irrelevant Corbyn, McDonnell are now

Four years wasted I can’t forget that when we needed a strong opposition more than ever

Agree. In some senses it's too late (brexit/election) but Starmer has set the right tone already of someone willing to work together with the government to get us through this period and be a 'critical friend' if needed. We have a Tory government for the foreseeable but Starmer stands a chance especially since Brexit will be done one way or another by then

Lordfrontpaw · 05/04/2020 10:49

He also needs to address the ‘women’ issue.
