Woke up at stupid o'clock and started a mental rummage through my cupboards and fridge. Have got up now leaving DP (who's 150 miles from elderly family and a bit down) in bed, and decided to make a lemon/orange drizzle cake. Haven't got a loaf tin but got something in remotely the right shape. Also only have duck eggs (as they were the last ones left when I last went shopping.) I will post a pic when it's ready....hope it's edible, don't fancy slinging out a load of perfectly good ingredients!
Anyone else baking today?

We're making a banana bread today to make sure the Bananas that my 8yo DS insisted he needed don't go to waste.

TheClitterati · 24/03/2020 07:53

Not today but I made amazing carrot cake on Sunday. Kids won't eat it so it's all mine. I didn't have tinned pineapple or walnuts so substituted tinned mandarins & Chia seeds.

Been using this recipe since the 80's.

Made a Victoria sponge yesterday so will probably attempt something savoury with the kids. I rather fancy cheese scones

Pinkarsedfly · 24/03/2020 08:05

I made flapjack yesterday. Four ingredients, no eggs, gorgeous.

AnduinsGirl · 24/03/2020 08:06

Lovely ideas! I'd love to make some flapjacks, theyre OH's favourites, but sadly no honey :(

Banana bread so not to waste the sad looking bananas, yesterday we made soup!

redastherose · 24/03/2020 08:08

If anyone is making home made soup, freshly made herb scones with butter are amazing with it 😊

Ironfloor269 · 24/03/2020 08:08

My daughter (9) is baking my birthday cake today 😊 A Victoria Sandwich. And we are going to eat it out in the garden, in the sunshine. I'm looking forward to it.

womaninatightspot · 24/03/2020 08:09

Gingerbread bought kits post christmas when they were 40p I don't think we'll make the houses just biscuits then decorate.

franke · 24/03/2020 08:10

Quiche Lorraine here - debating whether to be a heretic and add cheese or not 🤔 And I like the sound of all these cakes so might make a yoghurt pot cake or a lemon drizzle.

Couch25k · 24/03/2020 08:11

Sadly nothing as Flour seems to be like gold dust around here.

I do have half a bag of SR flour so not dire but keeping it back.

RoseDog · 24/03/2020 08:11

Happy birthday Iron, ive got to admit my lockdown breaking point was that I may have to make my sons 15th birthday cake, he really doesn't deserve that 😂 I know it is irrational but it's what tipped me over!

SushiGo · 24/03/2020 08:12

I'll make bread for tomorrow this evening.

Yesterday we made and decorated gingerbread houses which were unused from Christmas!

Wannabangbang · 24/03/2020 08:12

We are making fridge biscuits whilst we still have flour left

aibutohavethisusername · 24/03/2020 08:13

Made pumpkin pies yesterday.

ArriettyJones · 24/03/2020 08:14

Lemon polenta ring cake. We have no flour and a polenta glut.

CherryValance · 24/03/2020 08:14

A birthday cake for my son whose birthday is tomorrow. We’re in quarantine now but luckily I had got eggs and butter before everything went completely crazy, and already bought fondant icing (yuck) online a few weeks ago. I always have flour and sugar etc in my baking cupboard. It will use up all my eggs and butter though, so I do feel a bit like a wartime housewife who’s saved and swapped rations with neighbours!

MuddyPuddlesAndPrettyBubbles · 24/03/2020 08:15

The eggs and flour are being rationed for pancakes and Yorkshire puddings atm. The DC would rather pancakes than biscuits, and Yorkshire puddings make DH happy when he's tired and grumpy Grin

HappydaysArehere · 24/03/2020 08:51

There is some rhubarb in the garden and some strawberry jam to sweeten it. Thinking of some kind of topping maybe a crumble or a sponge type thing or even a batter type thing !!

thesnailandthewhale · 24/03/2020 09:16

Rock cakes made first thing this morning :)

AnduinsGirl · 24/03/2020 09:22

Well here is the drizzle cake! Hope it's as nice as it smells. I can never seem to get that sugar crust type thing on the top but hey, at least the house smells nice!

What are you baking today?

We'll make shortbread later. Can't get eggs for love nor money. I could murder a slice of decent carrot cake or similar.

AnduinsGirl mix granulated sugar with lemon juice, skewer the cake all over and pour the syrup over while the cake is still hot. Should stay nice and crunchy.

Wannabangbang · 24/03/2020 09:48

That looks divine opSmileCake

Chewbecca · 24/03/2020 09:50

Looks great Anduins. Agree with evilharpy, you have to add the crunchy top after baking.

I’m planning to make some blueberry muffins with some out of date blueberries and my last egg. I am going to use a half quantity of this bbcgoodfood recipe, and use a regular fairy cake tin so I make a bigger quantity.
I also have some going off raspberries that are not very sweet.
