It’s been an expensive evening. Anyone else?

I’m avoiding the internet after tonight!

So far I’ve bought some seeds/ plants for the garden to keep us busy.

Some beauty products to make the most of all the time at home.

Some books for the dc and myself to read.

Some vitamins/supplements.

That’s it, no more non essentials now.

Saisong just because your husband earns most of the money, it doesn't give him greater rights than you over family spends. There's literally no point in you meal planning and economising if he is going to blow £400 on a coffee machine. That's him indulging himself at the expense of the family. If you are looking after the kids and the home, then your contribution is as valuable as his.
Once this shitty situation is over, I suggest you address the balance of power in your marriage.

I find virtual shopping quite therapeutic. I click everything I want into the basket ( Bowden or Hush or Amazon for non clothesystuff) and spend ages choosing all the accessories to go with stuff and then almost faint when I see the total bill . Then I just delete things one by one slowly ! Or save them for later .
You don't have to spend a penny !

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 27/03/2020 21:21

I keep buying yarn😳

I'm not isolating, I'm a nurse, but I stress buy yarn apparently! I could be isolated for 10 years and not run out of yarn....

BuntyCollocks · 27/03/2020 21:23

Just threw £100 at Amazon - new laptop table, mouse and keyboard, raincoat for DD and an amazon flex for the office.

I’ve also had to buy a second laptop so I can write my dissertation whilst DH is home working on the other.

Lockdown is expensive.

RB68 · 27/03/2020 21:28

yeah a couple of weeks ago I was so distracted by everything going on and about to go into iso with DH back from Italy the next day I forgot to put car in park or even put the foot break on (auto) it rolled down the drive, fell down a couple of steps and hit the house. Now that was an expensive evening!

Sissymate2 · 28/03/2020 03:42

@RB68
I have done that twice this week! Although I did remember the hand brake or else I would have ended up in the ocean since we live at the top of a giant hill! I felt like a big dumdum when I was ready to go to the dr and couldn't figure out why the car wouldn't start up...looked down at the gearshift and saw it was still in drive...twice!
I bought some Brach malted milk fiesta Easter eggs that I used to love as a child.
.they no longer sell them in the shops and only sell them online at Easter. The shipping was twice as much as the candy, but oh so worth it...they are even more delicious than Maltesers!

turnandfacethenamechange · 28/03/2020 03:51

I just spent £40 on two small bottles of hand sanitizer Sad

That's a shame given that it's less effective than soap and a bar of soap is dead cheap.

turnandfacethenamechange · 29/03/2020 04:52

It's for when I'm shopping. Someone in the town has had CV and there only one food store. Trying to be extra careful given I'm living in shared accommodation.

FixItUpChappie · 29/03/2020 04:59

Yes it hard - I ordered a book for myself, 2 paper plane making books for the kids, a nerf American football, a family board game and a shower cap because I've never taken so many baths and I'm sick of my hair being wet Confused

MyOtherProfile · 29/03/2020 07:43

Make sure you use lots of soap then @turnandfacethenamechange as it does appear to be more effective.

turnandfacethenamechange · 29/03/2020 08:30

Oh am! My skin is practically falling off! This is purely for the supermarket.

MoltoAgitato · 29/03/2020 08:41

I’m working round the clock at the moment instead of part time so I’m happy to use my extra cash to keep others going. Local garden centre delivered loads of compost and garden bits and bobs, the kids need new slippers but I can’t find my clothes mojo.

JMAngel1 · 29/03/2020 08:46

Hair dye!
Books from Amazon for DDs and me for Reading Hour (my favourite hour of homeschooling)
Beauty stuff running out - collagen lip balm, face lift serum
Hydrangea seeds
New netball hoop net - got torn in Storm Jorge
Spring work shoes from ASOS - last years had a gaping hole in the sole - I am soooo hard on my shoes.

headinthedrawer · 29/03/2020 08:46

I'm not spending anything.Nearly bought paint but B&Q online had a queue. Then thought both myself and my husband have to continue working anyway so don't have the time to paint.Think it might be sensible to hang onto our cash as we don't know what's round the corner with his job.Going to use it as an opportunity to break my spending habit.

hiptobeasquare · 29/03/2020 09:00

Yes! Bought some air and grace trainers, some new Birkenstock’s, a pair of scamp and dude joggers, and a washing machine

InsertRandomWordsHere · 29/03/2020 20:14

Treated myself to some new loungewear bits but I'm working from home and want comfort whilst not looking scruffy all day! Brought them in the sale though think I spent all of £30.
We brought a Google home I think it's called on amazon for £60.
We had a holiday cancel so we deserve some treats but I am really trying to have as many no spend days as possible.

Purpletigers · 29/03/2020 20:38

A printer for the children for schoolwork (online )
Two more chickens( rehomed ex battery hens ) and associated feed and bedding, 1/2 cwt bag of potatoes , Large bag of compost ( all from a local supplier ) . He gave me his number and I can ring him if I run out of anything mentioned above .
I normally spend a lot on new plants for my garden from now through to the summer but I’m going to concentrate on the veg and fruit patch this year. I’ve just contacted my usual garden centre and the lovely owner is going to post out veg seeds when I get around to making a list .
I also ordered some wool for my mil to crochet a blanket to alleviate boredom.
I may order some fabric and thread for cross stitching.

Purpletigers · 29/03/2020 20:40

Oh and two large containers of rubbing alcohol. One for work and one to share with family and friends .

RoyalBankOfFuckThis · 29/03/2020 21:08

PURPLE TIGERS where did you get your rubbing alcohol please x

Ifonlywecouldwishuponastar · 29/03/2020 22:40

Ha ha yes I have realised I need a new hobby
So far I ordered some make up from morphe and some jeans.
I also ordered some cake tins and more make up on amazon. Hopefully the baking will distract me from online shopping!

Bridecilla · 06/04/2020 16:00

I've bought chalk pens on Amazon so ds can draw on the windows.

I keep looking on Amazon out of habit but everything seems so frivolous now and I feel bad for the delivery guys 🙈 need nee bras but debenhams has gone into Admin.
