It’s been an expensive evening. Anyone else?

I’m avoiding the internet after tonight!

So far I’ve bought some seeds/ plants for the garden to keep us busy.

Some beauty products to make the most of all the time at home.

Some books for the dc and myself to read.

Some vitamins/supplements.

That’s it, no more non essentials now.

I'm expecting food to start getting more expensive. The big supermarkets must have been itching to use Brexit as an excuse, now they have one that will work just as well. So I'm saving...

NettleTea · 23/03/2020 00:17

been buying seeds. and bleach. and more food

Patsypie · 23/03/2020 00:24

New pillows & duvet, elemis rose shower & body stuff, cat food & litter, some books, fancy chocolate and a rechargeable vibrator!

Titsywoo · 23/03/2020 00:39

Spent £100 on a weekly food shop (more than usual as i went to waitrose as it was less busy)

Also bought loads of veggie compost for my allotment. Not sure what i will do if we go into lockdown this week as there are 20 bags of it and not enough time to get the soil ready first.

Finally did an amazon order of art supplies for dd who has a lot of art gcse coursework to complete.

Im sure we will save a lot going forward and mine and dhs jobs seem to be safe for now.

WhatTheFronti · 23/03/2020 05:49

We bought our 3 kids iPods (yep still a thing 😆) mainly for music (will become muderous if I have to listen to dance monkey or Katy perry one more time....) and podcasts as well as to have a safe way to FaceTime and independently message with grandparents 😞

Also lots of books, craft supplies and drawing paper

Organising building supplies for renos to be delivered so lockdown can be productive....

Can I selfishly say please please please keep buying (responsibly!) and drinking (responsibly! Moderation!) wine.... it had been a rough summer with bushfires now Restaurants and cafes - all over the world closing and wine tourism shutting down has massive implications for our jobs and my own family, town, state .... drink responsibly tho folks! Thank you!
Might also be a idea to pop the cork/screw cap to some Italian/Spanish/French vino in solidarity x
(And mumsnet disclaimer - not advocating everyone drink....)

My DH has bought a Nintendo switch (I can't be upset, he bought me crash bandicoot to play on it)! Grin He also bought our 3 week old DS his own iPod to play music in his nursery (he's going to either love or absolutely hate classical with the amount he's hearing it). I bought an extra bag of food for Ddogs as they're super fussy and I'm having supply delay problems (£50 per bag - bought from 2 different suppliers, only one has arrived so far). I spent £10 on 3 books for DH and I (sudoku, wordsearch, crossword) to keep our brains engaged. Otherwise I've bought photo frames to send to DGM of her new DGGS that she may never meet, and a care package of things like Easter eggs and knitting patterns for MH DM who is in isolation. Listing this I definitely feel like I deserve to buy myself a treat!

peachypetite · 23/03/2020 06:32

Ordered a desk and chair for new home office. Aveeno hand cream because I have sensitive skin. Loungewear!

potter5 · 23/03/2020 07:23

Nothing!

Saved a fortune.

KatherineJaneway · 23/03/2020 07:27

I've bought a video converter (VHS to digital) and just ordered a cassette converter to. Have to occupy my brain somehow.

Almahart · 23/03/2020 07:30

Wine

Almahart · 23/03/2020 07:31

I did buy a load of paint the weekend before last though. Am going to sand and paint all our woodwork

clarebear99 · 23/03/2020 07:39

We waited outside for dobbies to open so we were the only ones there, and bought loads of bedding plants and seeds. Will be looking online today for a good quality gazebo. We won't be eating out or going to the pub so figured we'd have spent that anyway!

CandiceSucksCandy · 23/03/2020 07:39

Inflatable dinosaur suit
Crash mat
Courgette seeds

TARSCOUT · 23/03/2020 07:41

Can I ask, all of you lucky enough to not have to worry about money could you manage to send a little to charity or put an extra tin in the food bank box? Or maybe start a little pm group yourselves. Some people reading this can barely buy the essentials and internet probably being cut off at end of month. Noone says you can't have funds to splurge at this time of crisis but have a little compassion.

Bouncingbomb · 23/03/2020 07:45

Weber gas bbq here amongst other things bbq and chiminea fires planned twice a week during my 12 weeks isolation.

Fedupandpoor · 23/03/2020 07:46

Where is everyone buying paint from? I thought that couldn't be delivered?

Eeyoresstickhouse · 23/03/2020 07:48

A fire tablet for daughter, numerous educational activity books and craft supplies.

BillywigSting · 23/03/2020 07:49

Didn't buy it but tabletop football that normally lives in mils arrived yesterday.

Easel with whiteboard one side and chalk board on the other. Paints brushes and pots. Massive flip pad for the easel.

I bought a new dress.

Braving asda in a moment and going to buy dp the nicest travel mug I can find as he's still having to go to work (industrial chemistry) and taking public transport to get there.

Going to buy myself a canvas or two and do some painting when he is doing arty stuff.

New yoga mat (which I'm trying to convince myself that I needed anyway but ds wants to do it too so he can have my old one for now )

New pj's and slippers. I figured I'm probably going to be spending a lot of time in them for the foreseeable so I wanted nice ones

New wellies for dc. We started a vegetable patch this year. Good timing!

Bouncingbomb · 23/03/2020 07:51

Dulux deliver paint.

SimonJT · 23/03/2020 07:57

I had a splurge last night
Switch games
More gym equipment (i only had some arrive yesterday Blush)
New cat tree
Lego
Things for crafty stuff
Pingpong that clips onto the table
Nerf gun

Mrsfrumble · 23/03/2020 08:00

A desk so that DH can work in our bedroom (he’ll be working from home 9-6 every day, children and I will be using the kitchen table for homeschooling). Period pants for me (worried about getting hold of sanpro, don’t get on with cups) and jigsaws and books for DCs (we use the library loads, and obviously that’s going out of the window).

Yes, it all added up, but we didn’t eat out or go on public transport this weekend like usual which saved some money, and soon they’ll be nothing to buy but food anyway.

clarebear99 · 23/03/2020 08:02

My kids have all left home but I'm so jealous of these buys, particularly the Lego, trampoline and ping pong!!!

Dyrne · 23/03/2020 08:05

TARSCOUT that’s a little unfair; no one is exactly barging onto threads where someone has lost their job moaning that their diamond tiara is too tight. I understand you may be struggling but I would gently suggest you hide the thread if it’s upsetting you.

Plenty of people on this website post about things that could be upsetting for others - people moaning about their kids doing their head in could be extremely upsetting for those trying to conceive; someone posting about Mother’s Day could be upsetting to someone whose mum has just died etc etc.

DelurkingAJ · 23/03/2020 08:14

I blew the electrics on the oven last week. Thank heavens for home insurance for accidental damage. Hope the shop stays open until Wednesday for me to collect the new one. They sounded pretty sure on the phone.

Otherwise, a cable to connect my monitor to my laptop (work did provide one but my monitor is too old), bits for a ‘party’ for DS2 (we’ve cancelled his fourth birthday party so the four of us are going to play games etc instead!) and painting overalls for the DC as theirs are in pieces.

tulipsrus · 23/03/2020 08:29

Tarscout- l'm very conscious that we are fortunate ( husbands life insurance) I have tried to help all the local businesses in the community, buying vouchers and using their take away services and we always contribute to food banks.
I'm also trying to care for 2 ageing parents, a relative with Alzheimer's and our own business (which is likely to cease) and staff. And my own pain condition.
