It’s been an expensive evening. Anyone else?

I’m avoiding the internet after tonight!

So far I’ve bought some seeds/ plants for the garden to keep us busy.

Some beauty products to make the most of all the time at home.

Some books for the dc and myself to read.

Some vitamins/supplements.

That’s it, no more non essentials now.

Paint bought from Amazon and Farrow and Ball. Most places deliver paint. We also had a large diy delivery from Wickes

WhentheDealGoesDown1 · 23/03/2020 08:56

A lot of the spending on here will be money that would have been otherwise spent on holidays and going out

sonjadog · 23/03/2020 09:02

I have bought one book, two language learning apps, a craft kit and a computer game. All from small businesses. Trying to support them when I can!

64sNewName · 23/03/2020 09:04

Definitely the case for us that it’s money we had previously allocated to other things, which are now cancelled. Like hell could we afford a new iPad otherwise.

RuPaula · 23/03/2020 11:52

We’ve ordered Dulux paint, rollers etc from a local builders merchant. We might get some patio slabs as well depending on price. It’s worth a look at local merchants and garden centres - a lot deliver and I prefer helping local (rather than Amazon!)

Frownette · 23/03/2020 12:37

Vitamins, dvd box set, beauty samples

Shockers · 23/03/2020 13:11

I bought a book and jacket from Gandys.

What I should’ve ordered was top soil and seeds...

bruffin · 23/03/2020 13:17

Have only bought a soupmaker as decided that i and dd are going to be home everyday and it will be a nice lunch. DH and DS are keyworkers (pharmaceuticals) and normally factory has a really good cafe, but they have limited it to fry ups atm and dh is allergic to egg. Going to make every day and they can take into work next day

fifig87 · 23/03/2020 14:03

Iv bought a laptop, printer and paper for the kids, a hammer, wood glue, swing all, basketball pump and a steam cleaner!

Oldraver · 23/03/2020 15:29

OOh I was lookinf at Gandys last night and had to stop myself getting an orange parka

DS2's laptop died this morning so we've bought a desktop. DS1 told me via text that DS2 had been whittling on about using a desktop for gaming....and called hi a little snake Grin

Shockers · 23/03/2020 17:15

I love that orange parka! I decided to be sensible and buy the windcheater, for spring. I wanted to read their story too. I think their parents would be very proud.

KatherineJaneway · 23/03/2020 17:47

Can I ask, all of you lucky enough to not have to worry about money could you manage to send a little to charity or put an extra tin in the food bank box? Or maybe start a little pm group yourselves. Some people reading this can barely buy the essentials and internet probably being cut off at end of month. Noone says you can't have funds to splurge at this time of crisis but have a little compassion.

Maybe people don't usually have extra money but, due to the current situation, they will have some spare? For example I won't have any commuting costs for the next few months so that saves me quite a bit each week that I put towards what I purchased.

KatherineJaneway · 23/03/2020 17:47

I have also ordered some items for the local foodbank

rootsonshow · 23/03/2020 17:56

A nice Molton Brown body lotion, lockup notebook with pen, clasp earrings for grand daughter. This morning I ordered an 8 foot trampoline for grand daughters garden. My husband does not know any of this but I know that he has ordered a new lawn mower secretly. We are far from rich but I think like most people we are trying to cheer ourselves up. And I dont think that we will be going anywhere on holiday so its best to be happy over the little things.

rootsonshow · 23/03/2020 18:00

I also worry about the charities but many people pay by direct debit to them so hopefully this method of helping will carry on.

IratusCats · 23/03/2020 18:09

A KitchenAid, Pressure washer for myself
Ordered a swing set with slide for both DC, books.
DH is yet to buy anything.

tulipsrus · 23/03/2020 20:01

What pressure washer did you get?!!

ILoveAnOwl · 23/03/2020 20:07

No commuting this month so I've used the money to subscribe to Disney plus!

I understand that water aid would've been more worthy. I promise to donate my birthday money to them...

Murinae · 24/03/2020 20:50

Just bought a wood chipper as our local tree surgeon can’t deliver wood chips for my chickens so now we have to make our own

Sissymate2 · 27/03/2020 19:35

@Ohffs66
I recommend getting that pressure washer...it is so fun and rewarding to use it....your family members will all be queuing up for their turn🤣.
And its good exercise,too

Sissymate2 · 27/03/2020 19:37

@Ohffs66
Plus you are sanitizing the area that you are cleaning

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 27/03/2020 19:46

Handbag
Not entirely frivolous . It's a ( late) Mothers Day present from the DC .
We had to cancel our holiday .
No idea what we'll do for our Wedding Anniversary ( 25th)

I like Kipling bags and I have searched many , many sites to find one that fits the bill, so I'm pleased .

And I'm back at work next week ( I was on A/L this week ) so I need bolstering .

Leobynature · 27/03/2020 20:28

So far I have paid a gardener £350 to make the garden safe and I think his buggered off
Bike for DD
Clothes from warehouse sale
Oak Kitchen draw peg plate stacker (bloody expensive)

Sashes · 27/03/2020 20:47

I ordered an exercise bike today. And now that I have taken the first step towards my new fitness regime, I’ve eaten a —packet of— biscuits to celebrate.

Legoandloldolls · 27/03/2020 20:53

I might buy the kids one of those pop up pools...

But apart from.that I think I'm going to save longer term. No kids shoes, no summer clothes, im wearing my old primark leggings until they fall apart. My wire from.a bra popped out so I'm wearing my nursing bra.

The kids can squeeze into last years summer things and I can look like a tramp and no one will ever know. Its refreshing.

But I did have a virtual shop last night. I dont think I will buy any of it ( unless my jogging bottoms fall apart - hello 24/7 loungewear 😆)
