We are having takeaway of some sort as after several days of no-one eating my food I told DH I would slit my wrists if i had to cook for the rest of the week.

Probably Indian for DH and I (a lamb something for me) and fish and chips for the Dcs. Very useful having both those shops next to each other.

@Mrsjayy - thank you! I hope it tastes nice. I found a picture on Pinterest which just took my fancy.

Mrsjayy · 06/03/2020 15:37

I love a schnitzel but with cream and leeks.takes it to another level .if you remember will you tell me how it turns out I'll give it a go.

P1nkHeartLovesCake · 06/03/2020 15:41

Fish, chips, mushy peas

I am going to batter the fish myself, do truffle oil chips and even make the mushy peas myself

Ninkanink · 06/03/2020 15:42

We really love a mushroom stroganoff! It’s a great meat-free option.

We use Jamie Oliver’s recipe:

schnitzel!!!!!!!!

I LOVE schnitzel!!

My parents have a place near them that do wierd Schnitzel combos every Friday. I call them and ask what combo they have ... last week my dad had schnitzel with tandoori sauce topped with avocado and sour cream. He said it was much better than it sounds.

Which is just as well.

Right I can report back on the fish burgers from Aldi and can confirm they are really very good. Crispy on the otuside and moist on the inside.

I bougnt burger buns and added tartare, processed cheese and mayonnaise and told the fussy buggers it was homemade filet of fish.

It has gone down a storm.

Thanks. :)

Are the fish burgers frozen? I must look out for them.

We were away at the weekend so ate out for pretty much all meals.

Back to business today and we're having 'high tea' for dinner - grilled smoked bacon, sausages, black and white pudding, tomato. Fried eggs and mushrooms and baked beans for those who like them. With baked hash browns and fresh buttery white toast. It's a popular one in our house!

Tomorrow we're having cottage pie and greens

mbosnz · 09/03/2020 13:11

Those fish burgers sound really rather lovely. . .

Tonight, we're having Chicken casserole with a bucket load of veges.

Howmanysleepsnow · 10/03/2020 17:14

I have no idea. Probably not pasta as we had macaroni cheese yesterday.
My lot are tricky to feed and I tend to end up doing different versions of a meal. DH is temporarily pescatarian, DD is permanently vegetarian (but hates egg, quorn and tofu), DS14 is a definite carnivore and the 2 smaller DSs eat most things except courgette, aubergine and in one case mushrooms. I’m struggling for inspiration. Have done burritos, lasagne, carbonara and curry recently.

Homemade chicken and veg soup with tiger baguette

Ninkanink · 10/03/2020 17:37

We’re having roast chicken with a fancy stuffing (well, more fancy than the sage and onion we usually have - cranberry, orange and roasted chestnut) that we picked up at Sainsbury’s reduced to 20p. It’s christmas stock that they’re trying to clear.

To go with it I’m doing crushed potatoes with garlic and thyme, and carrot and swede mash. Basically just using up bits hanging around in the fridge that vaguely go together. Kinda wish I had some Brussels sprouts as it would just round the meal off nicely.

At the moment this is one of my favourite threads - a little haven of normality in a world gone bonkers! (And about food, one of our family's obsessions).

We're having home-made maccy cheese. Hopefully this will appease child the elder, and we won't have a row for the third night in a row, lol.

Spicy Coconut Chicken Curry Casserole

Bezalelle · 10/03/2020 18:05

I've been on delayed trains all day so I'm going to have a quick dinner of vegan sausages in white rolls. Can't wait!

Frownette · 10/03/2020 18:34

I'm recovering from gastric flu but still get the odd turn (like now) so can't go to the shop, it'll have to be eggs and baked beans later this evening.

I've got fruit, bio yogurt and chocolate in for dessert, when stomach stops hurting

caperplips · 11/03/2020 09:56

We had cottage pie last night, I tried a new recipe and it was really delicious, the nicest one I've made yet. And it had loads of diced veg cooked down into it - onion, celery, carrot, courgette, baby spinach, tomato puree and a tin of plum tomatoes - also fresh thyme, red wine and worcestershire sauce, salt and pepper, topped with buttery mash with grated cheddar on top.

Veg dodging dd lapped it up and said it was delicious! She'd had a cottage pie made by her school friend's mum a few weeks back and declared it was nicer than my usual recipe (which was Gordon Ramseys!) so I have been hunting down a good recipe since.

We had it with sugar snaps as I needed to use them.

There's enough left for dd and dh tonight and I'll have scrambled egg or something.

Tomorrow will be Thai red chicken curry served with rice, poppadoms and garlic and coriander naans (Aldi) - another family favourite

caperplips · 11/03/2020 09:57

The mention of Schnitzel up the thread has inspired me to put this on the menu over the weekend - either that or the Hairy Bikers home made chicken Kievs which are delicious too!

Ninkanink · 11/03/2020 11:55

It’s supposed to be pasta with pork/beef mince with tomato and aubergine sauce (we didn’t end up having it the other day, we had a prawn linguine instead because of time constraints), but we try not to have pasta too often, so I might do something else. Possibly a lamb tagine with olives and preserved lemons, with couscous.

Pinkiii · 11/03/2020 12:01

Chickpea and cauliflower curry here

mbosnz · 11/03/2020 12:34

ThePolishWombat · 11/03/2020 12:36

mbosnz I feel like I need to know what a “devilled sausage” is.....

ThePolishWombat · 11/03/2020 12:36

Cheap and cheerful here tonight: sausage pasta bake & garlic bread
