I just did a standing ovation. Powerful message!

That's it really!

Did anyone else see it?

Okay violence is a black problem.

CallofDoodee · 19/02/2020 13:08

No I listen to experts and attend lectures in my spare time on it to better understand the obstacles of the population I serve.

Have you recently decided that growing a beard would give your opinions a bit more credibility by any chance? Grin

CallofDoodee · 19/02/2020 13:09

Okay violence is a black problem.

No. One. Has. Said. That. On. This. Thread.

GEEpEe · 19/02/2020 13:09

No wife doesn't like beards.

GEEpEe · 19/02/2020 13:10

Think they have. Out of all the things they could have picked out about the perps, they chose race. Just like the media they read.

CallofDoodee · 19/02/2020 13:17

Because the rapper this entire thread is about is discussing race. In fact he the song he performed is called 'Black'. So is it surprising that race is the particular thing that people (including parents of black children) on this thread have been discussing?

Anyway, I'm not sure you are being entirely sincere - you may have over egged it with your 'white male in a position of authority/the people I serve' shtick.

yep!

Helloitsmemargaret · 19/02/2020 13:41

@derxa because the people who voted for him didn't care that he was racist. "The least racist is still racist"

When nothing changes I'd imagine that's just as tiring. Hmm

Squirrelpeanutbutter · 19/02/2020 13:46

it's interesting that Priti Patel doesn't think Boris is racist.

GEEpEe · 19/02/2020 13:47

Tokenism

GEEpEe · 19/02/2020 13:48

Believe it or not, understanding implicit bias and positionality is encouraged in modern medicine.

MrsTerryPratchett · 19/02/2020 14:19

it's interesting that Priti Patel doesn't think Boris is racist.

Has she said that while hooked up to a lie detector which would probably explode in the vicinity of any of them? He has clearly said racist things and associates with racist people.

MummyOfBoyAndGirl · 19/02/2020 14:53

Brilliant song & performance. I need to listen o hud other songs now

Also really enjoyed Lewis Capaldi, one of my favourite songs of the last year

buttonmoonb4tea · 19/02/2020 15:10

@GEEpEe

I understand that you're trying to make the point that it is not just black boys/men who are the perpetrators/victims of violent crime purely based on race.

I get it. There are a whole host of factors involved. Poverty, family structure and identity are all factors to name a few.

But I think what @boredbored and @CallofDoodee are saying is that yes, along with the other factors, race is the main overriding characteristic that places black boys at more risk of being victims and perpetrators.

I think the current climate in this country, is nurturing even more anger and fear amongst our young people and this exactly why the likes of Dave are producing music addressing this topic. And good on them. But it doesn't address how this is reduced. And I think your points are trying to address this. So yes thank you for the points raised.

But with all due respect attending lectures and keeping up with research does not actually provide the actual lived experience. But again thank you for at least making the effort to gain more knowledge.

@Bellapaws you really do come across like a twat

GEEpEe · 19/02/2020 15:32

It isn't the overriding factor though so no, you're still repeating the same thing over and over.

Poverty, low educational attainment, care and witnessing domestic violence are the overriding factors.

If race had been shown to be a factor I wouldn't be having this conversation.

The only reason you see more black boys as peeps and victims is because they show them more on the news as part of media hype and because BAME people are disproportionately at risk of the factors that are associated with serious youth violence.

june2007 · 19/02/2020 15:33

Watching the video where are the positive role models. He may be trying to question the stereotype but the video seems to be buying into it instead.

MrsTerryPratchett · 19/02/2020 15:38

Art is supposed to hold a mirror up to (nature) life june. We are supposed to do our critical thinking ourselves.

ManonBlackbeak · 19/02/2020 15:39

The fact that he's upset and seriously offended all of the Tommy Robinson loving gammon on social media is enough by me!

I personally feel it was an excellent platform to put a valid, important point across.

And as someone further up thread said, Stormzy's already done it.

I think it should be done time and time again until things change.

I think Dave is amazing. When I first listened to the words of Black it really made me think, which is unusual for songs these days.

Quirrelsotherface · 19/02/2020 17:57

I thought the mentioning of Meghan Markle was ridiculous. And insulting to a Royal Family and country who welcomed her with open arms at the start. We really need to stop feeding the narrative that the UK was racist towards her.

Quirrelsotherface · 19/02/2020 17:57

Other than that I thought he was amazing.

Gilead · 19/02/2020 18:42

The UK press were extraordinarily racist toward Meghan.
