I'm thinking about things that might improve my life

I'm wondering about small purchases that might improve my life. So far I'm thinking:
A couple more phone chargers - one to keep downstairs and one for work

A small, non-pod coffee machine for the bedroom. Any recs?

A plain black cashmere scarf, so I don't need to have to match to cost and/or outfit!

What small things improve your life and might improve mine too?!

I love this thread, thank you!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie are the Jigsaw camisoles true to size?

Dozer · 07/02/2020 08:21

My bean counter, perhaps!

Hmm @ cashmere being “cheap as chips”

Recommend small Tupperware for snacks and salad, Contigo West Loop hot drinks flask (£25-ish). Nice mug for work. Someone at work brought a wooden box with a lid and lots of compartments and we all stock it with a variety of fruit, herbal, normal tea bags.

Mobile phones need those pop on things because they are designed by men for men - Apple had no women designers! Shocking.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 07/02/2020 18:05

I have two cashmere jumpers, both M&S and not great quality. They cost £18.50 each in the sale.

I honestly don't know why you're on the thread, if you're only going to be sniffy.

Rosebud - I'm a busty 14 and need a large. They are so lovely.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 07/02/2020 18:08

And PMSL that £25 for a mug counts as small but a Jigsaw cami doesn't. Wink

OP posts:
Dozer · 07/02/2020 18:32

My £25 thermos recommendation was “in the spirit of the thread” (luxuries).

Fair play for finding cashmere costing £18.50.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 07/02/2020 23:20

Okay, Dozer. Truce.

PS: I actually do need a new flask.

Allbirds Breezers. Most comfortable things my feet have ever known. I wear them all the time at home.

GrimDamnFanjo · 08/02/2020 01:07

I have an rcup. Completely leak proof so life changing!

StCharlotte · 08/02/2020 10:38

I spend a lot of time on the style & beauty board so when I saw I have an rcup. on "threads I'm on", I was a bit Confused

And I agree about a nice mug at work. In a sea of trade buckets, I have a lovely one from Kew Gardens.

Coffee Gator for making real coffee. It's the pourover one so ready to use. No filter needed.

Birkenstocks for house shoes, sandals for summer, wool lines clogs for winter. I'm hard on soles so these are super supportive.
www.mandmdirect.com/01/details/BK143/Birkenstock-Kaprun-WZ-Wool-Felt-Happy-Lamb-Clogs-Anthracite-Black?aff

The house sandals are the plastic waterproof ones. Really light. I'm thinking of keeping my thong style ones for swimming and investing in the strap over Eva ones for the house so I can wear socks with them when it's a little colder but not enough to warrant my woollen clogs coming out
www.birkenstock.com/gb/men/sandals/beach-sandals/

I take the house sandals with me on holidays so I don't have to touch the floors yet can use them for the beach or swimming as they rinse off so easily. I've even worn them out for dinner in holidays as they are black so sometimes they suit my outfit better! Expensive but they last for years!!

Minky clothes. I have the green ones in every bathroom for quick wipedowns of the chrome taps. No water even required!

I have blue ones for the kitchen and bath sad the smooth side is awesome for soaking up water post bath and leaving kitchen surfaces free.

I use the pink ones for dusting as they pick up everything in there 7000 microfibers!

I also have one in my make-up drawer upstairs for wiping down my spectacles every morning. I'm going to buy another one for downstairs for wiping my spectacles to save me running up and down the stairs.

I'm also going to buy one for the car for giving it a quick wipe when I get into it and keep the dust off.

I have also bought very lovely Norma organics glass bottles in brown and clear glass from Amazon. I put water vinegar and essential oils into the brown one and use it for spraying down the bathrooms. The closest bottle had zoflora and water for disinfecting. I have a pair in all bathrooms and the kitchen.

I also bulk buy the Blitz paper towel rolls. I keep one in each bathroom for quick wipe downs. Plus gloves and toilet cleaner, Recover - another splurge - in case of emergencies as I have young kids.

Nice clear plastic boxes from TK Maxx for storing things. The fake shelf things too for maximising space.

Making a point of using up all the nice toiletries I've been gifted instead of saving for special occasions. All with three intention of making more room in my drawers and allowing me to streamline and buy some beautiful pieces rather than having lots of half used bottles.

For baby, John Lewis white sleepsuits. So much nicer than superstore ones.

For toddler, a step ladder upstairs and downstairs so he can go to the loo easier by himself.

I also second a silk pillow.

Awesome Lululemon yoga gear, they put their sale items in a category called, invest for less under we made too much. Some great deals to be got!

NYnachos · 08/02/2020 16:03

I order myself some nice toiletries (l'occitane, Molton brown etc) in travel sizes, plus travel size skincare, and put them in my gym bag to encourage me to go. Also have the same in an overnight toiletry bag so can just grab & go if I need to.

I keep a bag in my car boot container various car bits (screen wash, tyre pump/pressure gauge, jump leads etc), plus an emergency wash bag, first aid kit, change of clothes, blanket & snacks (including water).

Kids have specific sports bags that are restocked as soon as kit is washed. Eg swimming, football etc - each with a different bag so it's grab and go without needing to pack them.

I have a complete gym/swim kit in a packing cube that I can just throw into my suitcase when I go away, instead of needing to seek stuff out.

Several pairs of glasses (& prescription sunglasses) - spares in house/handbag/car/at work.

Stash of usual medication, plus paracetamol etc in my bag just in case.

Work bag with clear sections (I recommend Mia tui bags 🙂) - one for laptop & paperwork, a pouch for chargers, work pass, USB storage etc, a pouch for purse, medications, lip gloss etc. Easy to find things quickly.

Supermarket shopping online or through a meal delivery scheme (where they bring you the ingredients & recipe), milk delivered, fruit & veg box.

Amazon prime.

Chocadoddledoo · 09/02/2020 09:04

I love my heated throw, nice and cosy while watching films with a bailleys hot choc and cake.

EndlessAutumn · 09/02/2020 09:35

@BorneoBabe where/how do you get birth control pills online? That would definitely make my life easier!

TheWoodsareDarkandDeep · 09/02/2020 21:25

I wear matching underwear usually but when I have my period I wear big black knickers or ones like this etsy.me/2OEpS4P and I don’t have worry about leaks or stains.

minipie · 09/02/2020 21:43

Marking to come back to later!

For me:

  • extra peeler and kitchen scissors
  • extra pair of tweezers for downstairs (for when I notice that annoying brow/chin hair)
  • Pyrex/glass tupperware (ikea) so I can reheat leftovers in it
  • A flattering winter hat - mine was not cheap but worth its weight in gold
  • Phone case that takes a couple of cards, so I can leave my wallet at home
  • Decent earplugs
  • Lots and lots of hooks in hall cupboard
  • Collapsible laundry baskets that fit neatly down the side of the washing machine stack
  • Leakproof cups (munchkin brand) for the DC to have at night
nopuppiesallowed · 09/02/2020 22:16

What makes my life better and easier? These suggestions! Thank you.

minipie · 09/02/2020 22:32

Fab idea Bugger I’m getting one.

Tombakersscarf · 10/02/2020 11:02

I'd love to see the dadsnet equivalent of this thread!
I have a sofa with a charging point in the side, ultimate charging laziness Smile

nagnagnag · 10/02/2020 15:25

Instead of lots of charging leads get a charging dock that you can put all of your phones etc on at once - like this one
www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00TT9O0U4/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s01?psc=1&tag=mumsnetforu03-21&ie=UTF8
It makes it all tidier and more organised :)

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 10/02/2020 19:21

I definitely want a couple of charging plugs/cables rather than a dock thing, because I want them in different places. The Apple ones are appallingly expensive though - are cheaper ones okay instead?

OP posts:
Tombakersscarf · 10/02/2020 19:25

I like the amazon basics cables. I liked ones from Tiger until one I had went on fire.

CheesyWeez · 10/02/2020 22:05

I created a WhatsApp group called 'store cards' and photographed all my store cards - Tesco, boots etc... so I don't have to carry them around. Now I go out with a small coin purse, a phone and a door key.

I would like to buy jeans with a back pocket big enough for my phone. Fed up with stupid little pockets.
